וַיֹּ֤אמֶר also said ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵל֙ Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל Saul, šāʾûl אֹתִ֨י ʾēt שָׁלַ֤ח sent šālaḥ יְהוָה֙ The Lord yĕhōwâ לִמְשָֽׁחֳךָ֣ me to anoint māšaḥ לְמֶ֔לֶךְ thee king melek עַל over ʿal עַמּ֖וֹ his people, ʿam עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְעַתָּ֣ה now ʿattâ שְׁמַ֔ע therefore hearken šāmaʿ לְק֖וֹל thou unto the voice qôl דִּבְרֵ֥י of the words dābār יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

כֹּ֤ה Thus kō אָמַר֙ saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ צְבָא֔וֹת of hosts, ṣābāʾ פָּקַ֕דְתִּי I remember pāqad אֵ֛ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer עָשָׂ֥ה did ʿāśâ עֲמָלֵ֖ק Amalek ʿămālēq לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל to Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁר how ʾăšer שָׂ֥ם he laid śûm לוֹ֙ בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ for him in the way, derek בַּֽעֲלֹת֖וֹ when he came up ʿālâ מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ from Egypt. miṣrayim

עַתָּה֩ Now ʿattâ לֵ֨ךְ go hālak וְהִכִּיתָ֜ה and smite nākâ אֶת ʾēt עֲמָלֵ֗ק Amalek, ʿămālēq וְהַֽחֲרַמְתֶּם֙ and utterly destroy ḥāram אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer ל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א them not; lōʾ תַחְמֹ֖ל they have, and spare ḥāmal עָלָ֑יו ʿal וְהֵֽמַתָּ֞ה but slay mût מֵאִ֣ישׁ both man ʾîš עַד and ʿad אִשָּׁ֗ה woman, ʾiššâ מֵֽעֹלֵל֙ infant ʿôlēl וְעַד ʿad יוֹנֵ֔ק and suckling, yānaq מִשּׁ֣וֹר ox šôr וְעַד ʿad שֶׂ֔ה and sheep, śe מִגָּמָ֖ל camel gāmāl וְעַד ʿad חֲמֽוֹר׃ and ass. ḥămôr

וַיְשַׁמַּ֤ע gathered together, šāmaʿ שָׁאוּל֙ And Saul šāʾûl אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֔ם the people ʿam וַֽיִּפְקְדֵם֙ and numbered pāqad בַּטְּלָאִ֔ים them in Telaim, ṭĕlāʾîm מָאתַ֥יִם two hundred mēʾâ אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep רַגְלִ֑י footmen, raglî וַֽעֲשֶׂ֥רֶת and ten ʿeśer אֲלָפִ֖ים thousand ʾelep אֶת ʾēt אִ֥ישׁ men ʾîš יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah. yĕhûdâ

וַיָּבֹ֥א came bôʾ שָׁא֖וּל And Saul šāʾûl עַד to ʿad עִ֣יר a city ʿîr עֲמָלֵ֑ק of Amalek, ʿămālēq וַיָּ֖רֶב and laid wait rîb בַּנָּֽחַל׃ in the valley. naḥal

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar שָׁא֣וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶֽל unto ʾēl הַקֵּינִ֡י the Kenites, qênî לְכוּ֩ Go, hālak סֻּ֨רוּ depart, sûr רְד֜וּ get you down yārad מִתּ֣וֹךְ from among tāwek עֲמָֽלֵקִ֗י the Amalekites. ʿămālēqî פֶּן lest pēn אֹֽסִפְךָ֙ I destroy ʾāsap עִמּ֔וֹ you with ʿim וְאַתָּ֞ה them: for ye ʾattâ עָשִׂ֤יתָה shewed ʿāśâ חֶ֙סֶד֙ kindness ḥēsēd עִם to ʿim כָּל all kōl בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl בַּֽעֲלוֹתָ֖ם when they came up ʿālâ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם out of Egypt. miṣrayim וַיָּ֥סַר departed sûr קֵינִ֖י So the Kenites qênî מִתּ֥וֹךְ from among tāwek עֲמָלֵֽק׃ the Amalekites, ʿămālēq

וַיַּ֥ךְ smote nākâ שָׁא֖וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶת ʾēt עֲמָלֵ֑ק the Amalekites ʿămālēq מֵֽחֲוִילָה֙ from Havilah ḥăwîlâ בּֽוֹאֲךָ֣ thou comest bôʾ שׁ֔וּר to Shur, šûr אֲשֶׁ֖ר that ʾăšer עַל over ʿal פְּנֵ֥י against pānîm מִצְרָֽיִם׃ Egypt. miṣrayim

וַיִּתְפֹּ֛שׂ And he took tāpaś אֶת ʾēt אֲגַ֥ג Agag ʾăgag מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek עֲמָלֵ֖ק of the Amalekites ʿămālēq חָ֑י alive, ḥay וְאֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָעָ֖ם the people ʿam הֶֽחֱרִ֥ים and utterly destroyed ḥāram לְפִי with the edge pe חָֽרֶב׃ of the sword. ḥereb

וַיַּחְמֹל֩ spared ḥāmal שָׁא֨וּל But Saul šāʾûl וְהָעָ֜ם and the people ʿam עַל ʿal אֲגָ֗ג Agag, ʾăgag וְעַל ʿal מֵיטַ֣ב and the best mêṭāb הַצֹּאן֩ of the sheep, ṣōn וְהַבָּקָ֨ר and of the oxen, bāqār וְהַמִּשְׁנִ֤ים and of the fatlings, mišne וְעַל ʿal הַכָּרִים֙ and the lambs, kar וְעַל ʿal כָּל and all kōl הַטּ֔וֹב good, ṭôb וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ אָב֖וּ and would ʾābâ הַֽחֲרִימָ֑ם utterly destroy ḥāram וְכָל them: but every kōl הַמְּלָאכָ֛ה thing mĕlāʾkâ נְמִבְזָ֥ה vile nĕmibze וְנָמֵ֖ס and refuse, māsas אֹתָ֥הּ ʾēt הֶֽחֱרִֽימוּ׃ that they destroyed utterly. ḥāram

וַֽיְהִי֙ Then came hāyâ דְּבַר the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל Samuel, šĕmûʾēl לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

נִחַ֗מְתִּי It repenteth me nāḥam כִּֽי that kî הִמְלַ֤כְתִּי I have set up mālak אֶת ʾēt שָׁאוּל֙ Saul šāʾûl לְמֶ֔לֶךְ king: melek כִּי for kî שָׁב֙ he is turned back šûb מֵאַֽחֲרַ֔י from following ʾaḥar וְאֶת ʾēt דְּבָרַ֖י my commandments. dābār לֹ֣א me, and hath not lōʾ הֵקִ֑ים performed qûm וַיִּ֙חַר֙ And it grieved ḥārâ לִשְׁמוּאֵ֔ל Samuel; šĕmûʾēl וַיִּזְעַ֥ק and he cried zāʿaq אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ כָּל all kōl הַלָּֽיְלָה׃ night. layil

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֧ם rose early šākam שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל And when Samuel šĕmûʾēl לִקְרַ֥את to meet qirʾâ שָׁא֖וּל Saul šāʾûl בַּבֹּ֑קֶר in the morning, bōqer וַיֻּגַּ֨ד it was told nāgad לִשְׁמוּאֵ֜ל Samuel, šĕmûʾēl לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar בָּֽא came bôʾ שָׁא֤וּל Saul šāʾûl הַכַּרְמֶ֙לָה֙ to Carmel, karmel וְהִנֵּ֨ה and, behold, hinnē מַצִּ֥יב he set him up nāṣab לוֹ֙ יָ֔ד a place, yād וַיִּסֹּב֙ and is gone about, sābab וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֔ר and passed on, ʿābar וַיֵּ֖רֶד and gone down yārad הַגִּלְגָּֽל׃ to Gilgal. gilgāl

וַיָּבֹ֥א came bôʾ שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶל to ʾēl שָׁא֑וּל Saul: šāʾûl וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar ל֣וֹ שָׁא֗וּל and Saul šāʾûl בָּר֤וּךְ unto him, Blessed bārak אַתָּה֙ thou ʾattâ לַֽיהוָ֔ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ הֲקִימֹ֖תִי I have performed qûm אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֥ר the commandment dābār יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl וּמֶ֛ה What mâ קֽוֹל bleating qôl הַצֹּ֥אן of the sheep ṣōn הַזֶּ֖ה then this ze בְּאָזְנָ֑י in mine ears, ʾōzen וְק֣וֹל and the lowing qôl הַבָּקָ֔ר of the oxen bāqār אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֖י I ʾānōkî שֹׁמֵֽעַ׃ hear? šāmaʿ

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said, ʾāmar שָׁא֜וּל And Saul šāʾûl מֵעֲמָֽלֵקִ֣י them from the Amalekites: ʿămālēqî הֱבִיא֗וּם They have brought bôʾ אֲשֶׁ֨ר for ʾăšer חָמַ֤ל spared ḥāmal הָעָם֙ the people ʿam עַל ʿal מֵיטַ֤ב the best mêṭāb הַצֹּאן֙ of the sheep ṣōn וְהַבָּקָ֔ר and of the oxen, bāqār לְמַ֥עַן maʿan זְבֹ֖חַ to sacrifice zābaḥ לַֽיהוָ֣ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God; ʾĕlōhîm וְאֶת ʾēt הַיּוֹתֵ֖ר and the rest yātar הֶֽחֱרַֽמְנוּ׃ we have utterly destroyed. ḥāram

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵל֙ Then Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל Saul, šāʾûl הֶ֚רֶף Stay, rāpâ וְאַגִּ֣ידָה and I will tell nāgad לְּךָ֔ אֵת֩ thee ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֨ר what ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֧ר hath said dābar יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֖י to ʾēl הַלָּ֑יְלָה me this night. layil וַיֹּ֥אמֶרוּ And he said ʾāmar ל֖וֹ דַּבֵּֽר׃ unto him, Say on. dābar

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl הֲל֗וֹא not lōʾ אִם When ʾim קָטֹ֤ן little qāṭān אַתָּה֙ thou ʾattâ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ in thine own sight, ʿayin רֹ֛אשׁ the head rōš שִׁבְטֵ֥י of the tribes šēbeṭ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אָ֑תָּה thou ʾattâ וַיִּמְשָֽׁחֲךָ֧ anointed māšaḥ יְהוָ֛ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ thee king melek עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel? yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּשְׁלָֽחֲךָ֥ sent šālaḥ יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּדָ֑רֶךְ thee on a journey, derek וַיֹּ֗אמֶר and said, ʾāmar לֵ֣ךְ Go hālak וְהַֽחֲרַמְתָּ֞ה and utterly destroy ḥāram אֶת ʾēt הַֽחַטָּאִים֙ the sinners ḥaṭṭāʾ אֶת ʾēt עֲמָלֵ֔ק the Amalekites, ʿămālēq וְנִלְחַמְתָּ֣ and fight lāḥam ב֔וֹ עַ֥ד against them until ʿad כַּלּוֹתָ֖ם they be consumed. kālâ אֹתָֽם׃ ʾēt

וְלָ֥מָּה Wherefore mâ לֹֽא then didst thou not lōʾ שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ obey šāmaʿ בְּק֣וֹל the voice qôl יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַתַּ֙עַט֙ but didst fly ʿîṭ אֶל upon ʾēl הַשָּׁלָ֔ל the spoil, šālāl וַתַּ֥עַשׂ and didst ʿāśâ הָרַ֖ע evil raʿ בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord? yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar שָׁא֜וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶל unto ʾēl שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל Samuel, šĕmûʾēl אֲשֶׁ֤ר Yea, ʾăšer שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ I have obeyed šāmaʿ בְּק֣וֹל the voice qôl יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וָֽאֵלֵ֕ךְ and have gone hālak בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ the way derek אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer שְׁלָחַ֣נִי sent šālaḥ יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וָֽאָבִ֗יא me, and have brought bôʾ אֶת ʾēt אֲגַג֙ Agag ʾăgag מֶ֣לֶךְ the king melek עֲמָלֵ֔ק of Amalek, ʿămālēq וְאֶת ʾēt עֲמָלֵ֖ק the Amalekites. ʿămālēq הֶֽחֱרַֽמְתִּי׃ and have utterly destroyed ḥāram

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ הָעָ֧ם But the people ʿam מֵֽהַשָּׁלָ֛ל of the spoil, šālāl צֹ֥אן sheep ṣōn וּבָקָ֖ר and oxen, bāqār רֵאשִׁ֣ית the chief rēʾšît הַחֵ֑רֶם of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, ḥērem לִזְבֹּ֛חַ to sacrifice zābaḥ לַֽיהוָ֥ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃ in Gilgal. gilgāl

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl הַחֵ֤פֶץ delight ḥēpeṣ לַֽיהוָה֙ Hath the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּעֹל֣וֹת in burnt offerings ʿōlâ וּזְבָחִ֔ים and sacrifices, zebaḥ כִּשְׁמֹ֖עַ as in obeying šāmaʿ בְּק֣וֹל the voice qôl יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord? yĕhōwâ הִנֵּ֤ה Behold, hinnē שְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ to obey šāmaʿ מִזֶּ֣בַח than sacrifice, zebaḥ ט֔וֹב better ṭôb לְהַקְשִׁ֖יב to hearken qāšab מֵחֵ֥לֶב than the fat ḥeleb אֵילִֽים׃ of rams. ʾayil

כִּ֤י For kî חַטַּאת the sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ קֶ֙סֶם֙ of witchcraft, qesem מֶ֔רִי rebellion mĕrî וְאָ֥וֶן iniquity ʾāwen וּתְרָפִ֖ים and idolatry. tĕrāpîm הַפְצַ֑ר and stubbornness pāṣar יַ֗עַן Because yaʿan מָאַ֙סְתָּ֙ thou hast rejected māʾas אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֣ר the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיִּמְאָֽסְךָ֖ he hath also rejected māʾas מִמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ thee from king. melek

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar שָׁא֤וּל And Saul šāʾûl אֶל unto ʾēl שְׁמוּאֵל֙ Samuel, šĕmûʾēl חָטָ֔אתִי I have sinned: ḥāṭāʾ כִּֽי for kî עָבַ֥רְתִּי I have transgressed ʿābar אֶת ʾēt פִּֽי the commandment pe יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְאֶת ʾēt דְּבָרֶ֑יךָ and thy words: dābār כִּ֤י because kî יָרֵ֙אתִי֙ I feared yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֔ם the people, ʿam וָֽאֶשְׁמַ֖ע and obeyed šāmaʿ בְּקוֹלָֽם׃ their voice. qôl

וְעַתָּ֕ה Now ʿattâ שָׂ֥א pardon nāśāʾ נָ֖א therefore, I pray thee, nāʾ אֶת ʾēt חַטָּאתִ֑י my sin, ḥaṭṭāʾâ וְשׁ֣וּב and turn again šûb עִמִּ֔י with ʿim וְאֶֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖ה me, that I may worship šāḥâ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵל֙ And Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl שָׁא֔וּל Saul, šāʾûl לֹ֥א I will not lōʾ אָשׁ֖וּב return šûb עִמָּ֑ךְ with ʿim כִּ֤י thee: for kî מָאַ֙סְתָּה֙ thou hast rejected māʾas אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֣ר the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיִּמְאָֽסְךָ֣ hath rejected māʾas יְהוָ֔ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ מִֽהְי֥וֹת thee from being hāyâ מֶ֖לֶךְ king melek עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּסֹּ֥ב turned about sābab שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל And as Samuel šĕmûʾēl לָלֶ֑כֶת to go away, hālak וַיַּֽחֲזֵ֥ק he laid hold ḥāzaq בִּכְנַף upon the skirt kānāp מְעִיל֖וֹ of his mantle, mĕʿîl וַיִּקָּרַֽע׃ and it rent. qāraʿ

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלָיו֙ unto ʾēl שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl קָרַ֨ע hath rent qāraʿ יְהוָ֜ה him, The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶֽת ʾēt מַמְלְכ֧וּת the kingdom mamlākût יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl מֵֽעָלֶ֖יךָ from ʿal הַיּ֑וֹם thee this day, yôm וּנְתָנָ֕הּ and hath given nātan לְרֵֽעֲךָ֖ it to a neighbour rēaʿ הַטּ֥וֹב of thine, better ṭôb מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ than thou. min

וְגַם֙ And also gam נֵ֣צַח the Strength neṣaḥ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לֹ֥א will not lōʾ יְשַׁקֵּ֖ר lie šāqar וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ יִנָּחֵ֑ם repent: nāḥam כִּ֣י for kî לֹ֥א he not lōʾ אָדָ֛ם a man, ʾādām ה֖וּא that he hûʾ לְהִנָּחֵֽם׃ should repent. nāḥam

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then he said, ʾāmar חָטָ֔אתִי I have sinned: ḥāṭāʾ עַתָּ֗ה me now, ʿattâ כַּבְּדֵ֥נִי honour kābad נָ֛א I pray thee, nāʾ נֶ֥גֶד before neged זִקְנֵֽי the elders zāqēn עַמִּ֖י of my people, ʿam וְנֶ֣גֶד and before neged יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְשׁ֣וּב and turn again šûb עִמִּ֔י with ʿim וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֵ֖יתִי me, that I may worship šāḥâ לַֽיהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ thy God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיָּ֥שָׁב turned again šûb שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל So Samuel šĕmûʾēl אַֽחֲרֵ֣י after ʾaḥar שָׁא֑וּל Saul; šāʾûl וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ worshipped šāḥâ שָׁא֖וּל and Saul šāʾûl לַֽיהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל Samuel, šĕmûʾēl הַגִּ֤ישׁוּ Bring ye hither nāgaš אֵלַי֙ to ʾēl אֶת me ʾēt אֲגַג֙ Agag ʾăgag מֶ֣לֶךְ the king melek עֲמָלֵ֔ק of the Amalekites. ʿămālēq וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ came hālak אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl אֲגַ֖ג And Agag ʾăgag מַֽעֲדַנֹּ֑ת him delicately. maʿădān וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar אֲגָ֔ג And Agag ʾăgag אָכֵ֖ן Surely ʾākēn סָ֥ר is past. sûr מַר the bitterness mar הַמָּֽוֶת׃ of death māwet

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר As ʾăšer שִׁכְּלָ֤ה childless, šākōl נָשִׁים֙ hath made women ʾiššâ חַרְבֶּ֔ךָ thy sword ḥereb כֵּן so kēn תִּשְׁכַּ֥ל be childless šākōl מִנָּשִׁ֖ים among women. ʾiššâ אִמֶּ֑ךָ shall thy mother ʾēm וַיְשַׁסֵּ֨ף hewed pieces šāsap שְׁמוּאֵ֧ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶת in ʾēt אֲגָ֛ג Agag ʾăgag לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃ in Gilgal. gilgāl

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ went hālak שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל Then Samuel šĕmûʾēl הָֽרָמָ֑תָה to Ramah; rāmâ וְשָׁא֛וּל and Saul šāʾûl עָלָ֥ה went up ʿālâ אֶל to ʾēl בֵּית֖וֹ his house bayit גִּבְעַ֥ת to Gibeah gibʿâ שָׁאֽוּל׃ of Saul. šāʾûl

וְלֹֽא came no lōʾ יָסַ֨ף more yāsap שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל And Samuel šĕmûʾēl לִרְא֤וֹת to see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt שָׁאוּל֙ Saul šāʾûl עַד until ʿad י֣וֹם the day yôm מוֹת֔וֹ of his death: māwet כִּֽי nevertheless kî הִתְאַבֵּ֥ל mourned ʾābal שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל Samuel šĕmûʾēl אֶל for ʾēl שָׁא֑וּל Saul: šāʾûl וַֽיהוָ֣ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ נִחָ֔ם repented nāḥam כִּֽי that kî הִמְלִ֥יךְ king mālak אֶת ʾēt שָׁא֖וּל he had made Saul šāʾûl עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl
