ஆகையால் அவர்கள் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டு: நாங்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டுப் பாகால்களையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் சேவித்ததினாலே, பாவஞ்செய்தோம்; இப்பொழுது எங்கள் சத்துருக்களின் கைக்கு எங்களை நீங்கலாக்கி ரட்சியும்; இனி உம்மைச் சேவிப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

ஆனால், உங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் கர்த்தரிடம் உதவி கேட்டு அழுதார்கள். அவர்கள், ‘நாங்கள் பாவம் செய்துவிட்டோம். கர்த்தரை விட்டு பொய்த் தெய்வங்களான பாலையும், (பாகாலையும்) அஸ்த்ரோத்தையும் சேவித்தோம். இப்போது எங்களைப் பகைவர்களிடம் இருந்து காப்பாற்றுங்கள். நாங்கள் உங்களுக்கு சேவை செய்கிறோம்’ என்றனர்.
