וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח sent šālaḥ חִירָ֨ם And Hiram ḥîrām מֶֽלֶךְ king melek צ֤וֹר of Tyre ṣōr אֶת ʾēt עֲבָדָיו֙ his servants ʿebed אֶל unto ʾēl שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה Solomon; šĕlōmō כִּ֣י for kî שָׁמַ֔ע he had heard šāmaʿ כִּ֥י that kî אֹת֛וֹ ʾēt מָֽשְׁח֥וּ they had anointed māšaḥ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ him king melek תַּ֣חַת in the room taḥat אָבִ֑יהוּ of his father: ʾāb כִּ֣י for kî אֹהֵ֗ב a lover ʾāhab הָיָ֥ה was hāyâ חִירָ֛ם Hiram ḥîrām לְדָוִ֖ד of David. dāwid כָּל kōl הַיָּמִֽים׃ ever yôm

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent šālaḥ שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה And Solomon šĕlōmō אֶל to ʾēl חִירָ֖ם Hiram, ḥîrām לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

אַתָּ֨ה Thou ʾattâ יָדַ֜עְתָּ knowest yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֣ד David dāwid אָבִ֗י my father ʾāb כִּ֣י how that kî לֹ֤א not lōʾ יָכֹל֙ could yākōl לִבְנ֣וֹת build bānâ בַּ֗יִת an house bayit לְשֵׁם֙ unto the name šēm יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהָ֔יו his God ʾĕlōhîm מִפְּנֵ֥י for pānîm הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה the wars milḥāmâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer סְבָבֻ֑הוּ were about him on every side, sābab עַ֤ד until ʿad תֵּת put nātan יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֹתָ֔ם ʾēt תַּ֖חַת them under taḥat כַּפּ֥וֹת the soles kap רַגְלָֽו of his feet. regel

וְעַתָּ֕ה But now ʿattâ הֵנִ֨יחַ hath given me rest nûaḥ יְהוָ֧ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהַ֛י my God ʾĕlōhîm לִ֖י מִסָּבִ֑יב on every side, sābîb אֵ֣ין neither ʾayin שָׂטָ֔ן adversary śāṭān וְאֵ֖ין nor ʾayin פֶּ֥גַע occurrent. pegaʿ רָֽע׃ evil raʿ

וְהִנְנִ֣י And, behold, hēn אֹמֵ֔ר I purpose ʾāmar לִבְנ֣וֹת to build bānâ בַּ֔יִת an house bayit לְשֵׁ֖ם unto the name šēm יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהָ֑י my God, ʾĕlōhîm כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר spake dābar יְהוָ֗ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl דָּוִ֤ד David dāwid אָבִי֙ my father, ʾāb לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar בִּנְךָ֗ Thy son, bēn אֲשֶׁ֨ר whom ʾăšer אֶתֵּ֤ן I will set nātan תַּחְתֶּ֙יךָ֙ in thy room, taḥat עַל upon ʿal כִּסְאֶ֔ךָ thy throne kissēʾ הֽוּא he hûʾ יִבְנֶ֥ה shall build bānâ הַבַּ֖יִת an house bayit לִשְׁמִֽי׃ unto my name. šēm

וְעַתָּ֡ה Now ʿattâ צַוֵּה֩ therefore command ṣāwâ וְיִכְרְתוּ thou that they hew kārat לִ֨י אֲרָזִ֜ים me cedar trees ʾerez מִן out of min הַלְּבָנ֗וֹן Lebanon; lĕbānôn וַֽעֲבָדַי֙ and my servants ʿebed יִֽהְי֣וּ shall be hāyâ עִם with ʿim עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ thy servants: ʿebed וּשְׂכַ֤ר hire śākār עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ for thy servants ʿebed אֶתֵּ֣ן and unto thee will I give nātan לְךָ֔ כְּכֹ֖ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer תֹּאמֵ֑ר thou shalt appoint: ʾāmar כִּ֣י׀ for kî אַתָּ֣ה thou ʾattâ יָדַ֗עְתָּ knowest yādaʿ כִּ֣י that kî אֵ֥ין not ʾayin בָּ֛נוּ אִ֛ישׁ among us any ʾîš יֹדֵ֥עַ that can skill yādaʿ לִכְרָת to hew kārat עֵצִ֖ים timber ʿēṣ כַּצִּֽדֹנִֽים׃ like unto the Sidonians. ṣîdōnî

וַיְהִ֞י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּשְׁמֹ֧עַ heard šāmaʿ חִירָ֛ם when Hiram ḥîrām אֶת ʾēt דִּבְרֵ֥י the words dābār שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה of Solomon, šĕlōmō וַיִּשְׂמַ֣ח that he rejoiced śāmaḥ מְאֹ֑ד greatly, mĕʾōd וַיֹּ֗אמֶר and said, ʾāmar בָּר֤וּךְ Blessed bārak יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ הַיּ֔וֹם this day, yôm אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֤ן hath given nātan לְדָוִד֙ unto David dāwid בֵּ֣ן son bēn חָכָ֔ם a wise ḥākām עַל over ʿal הָעָ֥ם people. ʿam הָרָ֖ב great rab הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח sent šālaḥ חִירָם֙ And Hiram ḥîrām אֶל to ʾēl שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה Solomon, šĕlōmō לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar שָׁמַ֕עְתִּי I have considered šāmaʿ אֵ֥ת ʾēt אֲשֶׁר the things which ʾăšer שָׁלַ֖חְתָּ thou sentest šālaḥ אֵלָ֑י to ʾēl אֲנִ֤י me for: I ʾănî אֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ will do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl חֶפְצְךָ֔ thy desire ḥēpeṣ בַּֽעֲצֵ֥י concerning timber ʿēṣ אֲרָזִ֖ים of cedar, ʾerez וּבַֽעֲצֵ֥י and concerning timber ʿēṣ בְרוֹשִֽׁים׃ of fir. bĕrôš

עֲ֠בָדַי My servants ʿebed יֹרִ֨דוּ shall bring down yārad מִן from min הַלְּבָנ֜וֹן Lebanon lĕbānôn יָ֗מָּה unto the sea: yām וַֽ֠אֲנִי and I ʾănî אֲשִׂימֵ֨ם will convey śûm דֹּֽבְר֤וֹת in floats dōbĕrâ בַּיָּם֙ them by sea yām עַֽד unto ʿad הַמָּק֞וֹם the place māqôm אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer תִּשְׁלַ֥ח thou shalt appoint šālaḥ אֵלַ֛י ʾēl וְנִפַּצְתִּ֥ים me, and will cause them to be discharged nāpaṣ שָׁ֖ם there, šām וְאַתָּ֣ה and thou ʾattâ תִשָּׂ֑א shalt receive nāśāʾ וְאַתָּה֙ and thou ʾattâ תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה shalt accomplish ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt חֶפְצִ֔י my desire, ḥēpeṣ לָתֵ֖ת in giving nātan לֶ֥חֶם food leḥem בֵּיתִֽי׃ for my household. bayit

וַיְהִ֨י hāyâ חִיר֜וֹם So Hiram ḥîrām נֹתֵ֣ן gave nātan לִשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה Solomon šĕlōmō עֲצֵ֧י trees ʿēṣ אֲרָזִ֛ים cedar ʾerez וַֽעֲצֵ֥י trees ʿēṣ בְרוֹשִׁ֖ים and fir bĕrôš כָּל all kōl חֶפְצֽוֹ׃ his desire. ḥēpeṣ

וּשְׁלֹמֹה֩ And Solomon šĕlōmō נָתַ֨ן gave nātan לְחִירָ֜ם Hiram ḥîrām עֶשְׂרִים֩ twenty ʿeśrîm אֶ֨לֶף thousand ʾelep כֹּ֤ר measures kōr חִטִּים֙ of wheat ḥiṭṭâ מַכֹּ֣לֶת food makkōlet לְבֵית֔וֹ to his household, bayit וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and twenty ʿeśrîm כֹּ֖ר measures kōr שֶׁ֣מֶן oil: šemen כָּתִ֑ית of pure kātît כֹּֽה thus kō יִתֵּ֧ן gave nātan שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה Solomon šĕlōmō לְחִירָ֖ם to Hiram ḥîrām שָׁנָ֥ה year šāne בְשָׁנָֽה׃ by year. šāne

וַֽיהוָ֗ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ נָתַ֤ן gave nātan חָכְמָה֙ wisdom, ḥokmâ לִשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה Solomon šĕlōmō כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּר he promised dābar ל֑וֹ וַיְהִ֣י him: and there was hāyâ שָׁלֹ֗ם peace šālôm בֵּ֤ין between bên חִירָם֙ Hiram ḥîrām וּבֵ֣ין bên שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה and Solomon; šĕlōmō וַיִּכְרְת֥וּ made kārat בְרִ֖ית a league together. bĕrît שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃ and they two šĕnayim

וַיַּ֨עַל raised ʿālâ הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ And king melek שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה Solomon šĕlōmō מַ֖ס a levy mas מִכָּל out of all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel; yiśrāʾēl וַיְהִ֣י was hāyâ הַמַּ֔ס and the levy mas שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים thirty šĕlôšîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep אִֽישׁ׃ men. ʾîš

וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם And he sent šālaḥ לְבָנ֗וֹנָה them to Lebanon, lĕbānôn עֲשֶׂ֨רֶת ten ʿeśer אֲלָפִ֤ים thousand ʾelep בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ a month ḥōdeš חֲלִיפ֔וֹת by courses: ḥălîpâ חֹ֚דֶשׁ a month ḥōdeš יִֽהְי֣וּ they were hāyâ בַלְּבָנ֔וֹן in Lebanon, lĕbānôn שְׁנַ֥יִם two šĕnayim חֳדָשִׁ֖ים months ḥōdeš בְּבֵית֑וֹ at home: bayit וַאֲדֹֽנִירָ֖ם and Adoniram ʾădōnîrām עַל over ʿal הַמַּֽס׃ the levy. mas

וַיְהִ֧י had hāyâ לִשְׁלֹמֹ֛ה And Solomon šĕlōmō שִׁבְעִ֥ים threescore and ten šibʿîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep נֹשֵׂ֣א that bare nāśāʾ סַבָּ֑ל burdens, sabbāl וּשְׁמֹנִ֥ים and fourscore šĕmōnîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep חֹצֵ֥ב hewers ḥāṣab בָּהָֽר׃ in the mountains; har

לְ֠בַד bad מִשָּׂרֵ֨י Beside the chief śar הַנִּצָּבִ֤ים officers nāṣab לִשְׁלֹמֹה֙ of Solomon's šĕlōmō אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer עַל over ʿal הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה the work, mĕlāʾkâ שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת three šālôš אֲלָפִ֖ים thousand ʾelep וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ and three šālôš מֵא֑וֹת hundred, mēʾâ הָֽרֹדִ֣ים which ruled rādâ בָּעָ֔ם over the people ʿam הָֽעֹשִׂ֖ים that wrought ʿāśâ בַּמְּלָאכָֽה׃ in the work. mĕlāʾkâ

וַיְצַ֣ו commanded, ṣāwâ הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ And the king melek וַיַּסִּעוּ֩ and they brought nāsaʿ אֲבָנִ֨ים stones, ʾeben גְּדֹל֜וֹת great gādôl אֲבָנִ֧ים stones, ʾeben יְקָר֛וֹת costly yāqār לְיַסֵּ֥ד to lay the foundation yāsad הַבָּ֖יִת of the house. bayit אַבְנֵ֥י stones, ʾeben גָזִֽית׃ hewed gāzît

וַֽיִּפְסְל֞וּ did hew pāsal בֹּנֵ֧י builders bānâ שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה And Solomon's šĕlōmō וּבֹנֵ֥י builders bānâ חִיר֖וֹם and Hiram's ḥîrām וְהַגִּבְלִ֑ים and the stonesquarers: giblî וַיָּכִ֛ינוּ so they prepared kûn הָֽעֵצִ֥ים timber ʿēṣ וְהָֽאֲבָנִ֖ים and stones ʾeben לִבְנ֥וֹת to build bānâ הַבָּֽיִת׃ the house. bayit
