וַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּ And they continued yāšab שָׁלֹ֣שׁ three šālôš שָׁנִ֑ים years šāne אֵ֚ין without ʾayin מִלְחָמָ֔ה war milḥāmâ בֵּ֥ין between bên אֲרָ֖ם Syria ʾărām וּבֵ֥ין bên יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ and Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיְהִ֖י And it came to pass hāyâ בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה year, šāne הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑ית in the third šĕlîšî וַיֵּ֛רֶד came down yārad יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֥ט that Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ אֶל to ʾēl מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar מֶֽלֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl עֲבָדָ֔יו his servants, ʿebed הַיְדַעְתֶּ֕ם Know yādaʿ כִּי ye that kî לָ֖נוּ רָמֹ֣ת Ramoth rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָ֑ד in Gilead gilʿād וַֽאֲנַ֣חְנוּ ours, and we ʾănaḥnû מַחְשִׁ֔ים still, ḥāšâ מִקַּ֣חַת take lāqaḥ אֹתָ֔הּ ʾēt מִיַּ֖ד it not out of the hand yād מֶ֥לֶךְ of the king melek אֲרָֽם׃ of Syria? ʾărām

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And he said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ הֲתֵלֵ֥ךְ Wilt thou go hālak אִתִּ֛י with ʾēt לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה me to battle milḥāmâ רָמֹ֣ת to Ramoth-gilead? rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָ֑ד gilʿād וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ אֶל to ʾēl מֶ֣לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כָּמ֧וֹנִי I as thou kĕmô כָמ֛וֹךָ kĕmô כְּעַמִּ֥י my people ʿam כְעַמֶּ֖ךָ as thy people, ʿam כְּסוּסַ֥י my horses sûs כְּסוּסֶֽיךָ׃ as thy horses. sûs

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֖ט And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ אֶל unto ʾēl מֶ֣לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl דְּרָשׁ Inquire, dāraš נָ֥א I pray thee, nāʾ כַיּ֖וֹם to day. yôm אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֥ר at the word dābār יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord yĕhōwâ

וַיִּקְבֹּ֨ץ gathered together, qābaṣ מֶֽלֶךְ Then the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶֽת ʾēt הַנְּבִיאִים֮ the prophets nābîʾ כְּאַרְבַּ֣ע about four ʾarbaʿ מֵא֣וֹת hundred mēʾâ אִישׁ֒ men, ʾîš וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl הַֽאֵלֵ֞ךְ them, Shall I go hālak עַל against ʿal רָמֹ֥ת Ramoth-gilead rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָ֛ד gilʿād לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה to battle, milḥāmâ אִם or ʾim אֶחְדָּ֑ל shall I forbear? ḥādal וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ And they said, ʾāmar עֲלֵ֔ה Go up; ʿālâ וְיִתֵּ֥ן shall deliver nātan אֲדֹנָ֖י for the Lord ʾădōnāy בְּיַ֥ד into the hand yād הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of the king. melek

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ הַאֵ֨ין not ʾayin פֹּ֥ה here pō נָבִ֛יא a prophet nābîʾ לַֽיהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ ע֑וֹד besides, ʿôd וְנִדְרְשָׁ֖ה that we might inquire dāraš מֵאֹתֽוֹ׃ of him? ʾēt

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said ʾāmar מֶֽלֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל׀ of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶֽל unto ʾēl יְהוֹשָׁפָ֡ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ ע֣וֹד yet ʿôd אִישׁ man, ʾîš אֶחָ֡ד one ʾeḥād לִדְרֹשׁ֩ whom we may inquire dāraš אֶת by ʾēt יְהוָ֨ה the Lord: yĕhōwâ מֵֽאֹת֜וֹ of ʾēt וַֽאֲנִ֣י but I ʾănî שְׂנֵאתִ֗יו hate śānēʾ כִּ֠י him; for kî לֹֽא he doth not lōʾ יִתְנַבֵּ֨א prophesy nābāʾ עָלַ֥י concerning ʿal טוֹב֙ good ṭôb כִּ֣י me, but kî אִם ʾim רָ֔ע evil. raʿ מִיכָ֖יְהוּ Micaiah mîkāyhû בֶּן the son bēn יִמְלָ֑ה of Imlah, yimlāʾ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ אַל Let not ʾal יֹאמַ֥ר say ʾāmar הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek כֵּֽן׃ so. kēn

וַיִּקְרָא֙ called qārāʾ מֶ֣לֶךְ Then the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל ʾēl סָרִ֖יס officer, sārîs אֶחָ֑ד an ʾeḥād וַיֹּ֕אמֶר and said, ʾāmar מַֽהֲרָ֖ה Hasten māhar מִיכָ֥יְהוּ Micaiah mîkāyhû בֶן the son bēn יִמְלָֽה׃ of Imlah. yimlāʾ

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֣ט and Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek יְהוּדָ֡ה of Judah yĕhûdâ יֹֽשְׁבִים֩ sat yāšab אִ֨ישׁ each ʾîš עַל on ʿal כִּסְא֜וֹ his throne, kissēʾ מְלֻבָּשִׁ֤ים having put on lābaš בְּגָדִים֙ their robes, beged בְּגֹ֔רֶן in a void place gōren פֶּ֖תַח in the entrance petaḥ שַׁ֣עַר of the gate šaʿar שֹֽׁמְר֑וֹן of Samaria; šōmĕrôn וְכָ֨ל and all kōl הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים the prophets nābîʾ מִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖ים prophesied nābāʾ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ before them. pānîm

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ made ʿāśâ ל֛וֹ צִדְקִיָּ֥ה And Zedekiah ṣidqiyyâ בֶֽן the son bēn כְּנַעֲנָ֖ה of Chenaanah kĕnaʿănâ קַרְנֵ֣י him horns qeren בַרְזֶ֑ל of iron: barzel וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and he said, ʾāmar כֹּֽה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ בְּאֵ֛לֶּה With these ʾēlle תְּנַגַּ֥ח shalt thou push nāgaḥ אֶת ʾēt אֲרָ֖ם the Syrians, ʾărām עַד until ʿad כַּלֹּתָֽם׃ thou have consumed them. kālâ

וְכָל And all kōl הַנְּבִאִ֔ים the prophets nābîʾ נִבְּאִ֥ים prophesied nābāʾ כֵּ֖ן so, kēn לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar עֲלֵ֞ה Go up ʿālâ רָמֹ֤ת to Ramoth-gilead, rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָד֙ gilʿād וְהַצְלַ֔ח and prosper: ṣālaḥ וְנָתַ֥ן shall deliver nātan יְהוָ֖ה for the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיַ֥ד hand. yād הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ into the king's melek

וְהַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ And the messenger mălʾok אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הָלַ֣ךְ׀ was gone hālak לִקְרֹ֣א to call qārāʾ מִיכָ֗יְהוּ Micaiah mîkāyhû דִּבֶּ֤ר spake dābar אֵלָיו֙ unto ʾēl לֵאמֹ֔ר him, saying, ʾāmar הִנֵּה Behold hinnē נָ֞א now, nāʾ דִּבְרֵ֧י the words dābār הַנְּבִיאִ֛ים of the prophets nābîʾ פֶּֽה mouth: pe אֶחָ֥ד with one ʾeḥād ט֖וֹב good ṭôb אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king melek יְהִי be hāyâ נָ֣א I pray thee, nāʾ דְבָרֵיךָ֗ let thy word, dābār כִּדְבַ֛ר like the word dābār אַחַ֥ד of one ʾeḥād מֵהֶ֖ם hēm וְדִבַּ֥רְתָּ of them, and speak dābar טּֽוֹב׃ good. ṭôb

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר said, ʾāmar מִיכָ֑יְהוּ And Micaiah mîkāyhû חַי liveth, ḥay יְהוָ֕ה the Lord yĕhōwâ כִּ֠י kî אֶת ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֨ר what ʾăšer יֹאמַ֧ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֖י unto ʾēl אֹת֥וֹ ʾēt אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ me, that will I speak. dābar

וַיָּבוֹא֮ So he came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ the king. melek וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ And the king melek אֵלָ֗יו unto ʾēl מִיכָ֙יְהוּ֙ him, Micaiah, mîkāyhû הֲנֵלֵ֞ךְ shall we go hālak אֶל against ʾēl רָמֹ֥ת Ramoth-gilead rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָ֛ד gilʿād לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה to battle, milḥāmâ אִם or ʾim נֶחְדָּ֑ל shall we forbear? ḥādal וַיֹּ֤אמֶר And he answered ʾāmar אֵלָיו֙ ʾēl עֲלֵ֣ה him, Go, ʿālâ וְהַצְלַ֔ח and prosper: ṣālaḥ וְנָתַ֥ן shall deliver nātan יְהוָ֖ה for the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיַ֥ד into the hand yād הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of the king. melek

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אֵלָיו֙ unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ And the king melek עַד him, How ʿad כַּמֶּ֥ה many mâ פְעָמִ֖ים times paʿam אֲנִ֣י shall I ʾănî מַשְׁבִּיעֶ֑ךָ adjure šābaʿ אֲ֠שֶׁר thee that ʾăšer לֹֽא me nothing lōʾ תְדַבֵּ֥ר thou tell dābar אֵלַ֛י ʾēl רַק but raq אֱמֶ֖ת true ʾemet בְּשֵׁ֥ם in the name šēm יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord? yĕhōwâ

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar רָאִ֤יתִי I saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ Israel yiśrāʾēl נְפֹצִ֣ים scattered pûṣ אֶל upon ʾēl הֶֽהָרִ֔ים the hills, har כַּצֹּ֕אן as sheep ṣōn אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer אֵין have not ʾayin לָהֶ֖ם hēm רֹעֶ֑ה a shepherd: rāʿâ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said, ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ and the Lord yĕhōwâ לֹֽא have no lōʾ אֲדֹנִ֣ים master: ʾādôn לָאֵ֔לֶּה These ʾēlle יָשׁ֥וּבוּ let them return šûb אִישׁ every man ʾîš לְבֵית֖וֹ to his house bayit בְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃ in peace. šālôm

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar מֶֽלֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֑ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ הֲלוֹא֙ Did I not lōʾ אָמַ֣רְתִּי tell ʾāmar אֵלֶ֔יךָ ʾēl לֽוֹא no lōʾ יִתְנַבֵּ֥א thee that he would prophesy nābāʾ עָלַ֛י concerning ʿal ט֖וֹב good ṭôb כִּ֥י me, but kî אִם ʾim רָֽע׃ evil? raʿ

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar לָכֵ֖ן thou therefore kēn שְׁמַ֣ע Hear šāmaʿ דְּבַר the word dābār יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ רָאִ֤יתִי I saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ יֹשֵׁ֣ב sitting yāšab עַל on ʿal כִּסְא֔וֹ his throne, kissēʾ וְכָל and all kōl צְבָ֤א the host ṣābāʾ הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ of heaven šāmayim עֹמֵ֣ד standing ʿāmad עָלָ֔יו by ʿal מִֽימִינ֖וֹ him on his right hand yāmîn וּמִשְּׂמֹאלֽוֹ׃ and on his left. śĕmōwl

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar יְהוָ֗ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ מִ֤י Who mî יְפַתֶּה֙ shall persuade pātâ אֶת ʾēt אַחְאָ֔ב Ahab, ʾaḥʾāb וְיַ֕עַל that he may go up ʿālâ וְיִפֹּ֖ל and fall nāpal בְּרָמֹ֣ת at Ramoth-gilead? rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָ֑ד gilʿād וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar זֶה֙ And one ze בְּכֹ֔ה on this manner, kō וְזֶ֥ה and another ze אֹמֵ֖ר said ʾāmar בְּכֹֽה׃ on that manner. kō

וַיֵּצֵ֣א And there came forth yāṣāʾ הָר֗וּחַ a spirit, rûaḥ וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ and stood ʿāmad לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר and said, ʾāmar אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî אֲפַתֶּ֑נּוּ will persuade him. pātâ

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָ֛ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלָ֖יו unto ʾēl בַּמָּֽה׃ him, Wherewith? mâ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar אֵצֵא֙ I will go forth, yāṣāʾ וְהָיִ֙יתִי֙ and I will be hāyâ ר֣וּחַ spirit rûaḥ שֶׁ֔קֶר a lying šeqer בְּפִ֖י in the mouth pe כָּל of all kōl נְבִיאָ֑יו his prophets. nābîʾ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar תְּפַתֶּה֙ Thou shalt persuade pātâ וְגַם also: gam תּוּכָ֔ל and prevail yākōl צֵ֖א go forth, yāṣāʾ וַֽעֲשֵׂה and do ʿāśâ כֵֽן׃ so. kēn

וְעַתָּ֗ה Now ʿattâ הִנֵּ֨ה therefore, behold, hinnē נָתַ֤ן hath put nātan יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ ר֣וּחַ spirit rûaḥ שֶׁ֔קֶר a lying šeqer בְּפִ֖י in the mouth pe כָּל of all kōl נְבִיאֶ֣יךָ thy prophets, nābîʾ אֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle וַֽיהוָ֔ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ דִּבֶּ֥ר hath spoken dābar עָלֶ֖יךָ concerning thee. ʿal רָעָֽה׃ evil raʿ

וַיִּגַּשׁ֙ went near, nāgaš צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ But Zedekiah ṣidqiyyâ בֶֽן the son bēn כְּנַעֲנָ֔ה of Chenaanah kĕnaʿănâ וַיַּכֶּ֥ה and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt מִיכָ֖יְהוּ Micaiah mîkāyhû עַל on ʿal הַלֶּ֑חִי the cheek, lĕḥî וַיֹּ֕אמֶר and said, ʾāmar אֵי Which way ʾay זֶ֨ה ze עָבַ֧ר went ʿābar רֽוּחַ the Spirit rûaḥ יְהוָ֛ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵֽאִתִּ֖י ʾēt לְדַבֵּ֥ר from me to speak dābar אוֹתָֽךְ׃ unto thee? ʾēt

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar מִיכָ֔יְהוּ And Micaiah mîkāyhû הִנְּךָ֥ Behold, hēn רֹאֶ֖ה thou shalt see rāʾâ בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַה֑וּא in that hûʾ אֲשֶׁ֥ר when ʾăšer תָּבֹ֛א thou shalt go into bôʾ חֶ֥דֶר an inner ḥeder בְּחֶ֖דֶר chamber ḥeder לְהֵֽחָבֵֽה׃ to hide thyself. ḥābâ

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said, ʾāmar מֶ֣לֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl קַ֚ח Take lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt מִיכָ֔יְהוּ Micaiah, mîkāyhû וַֽהֲשִׁיבֵ֖הוּ and carry him back šûb אֶל unto ʾēl אָמֹ֣ן Amon ʾāmôn שַׂר the governor śar הָעִ֑יר of the city, ʿîr וְאֶל and to ʾēl יוֹאָ֖שׁ Joash yôʾoš בֶּן son; bēn הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek

וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֗ And say, ʾāmar כֹּ֚ה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek שִׂ֥ימוּ Put śûm אֶת ʾēt זֶ֖ה this ze בֵּ֣ית in the prison, bayit הַכֶּ֑לֶא keleʾ וְהַאֲכִלֻ֨הוּ and feed ʾākal לֶ֤חֶם him with bread leḥem לַ֙חַץ֙ of affliction laḥaṣ וּמַ֣יִם and with water mayim לַ֔חַץ of affliction, laḥaṣ עַ֖ד until ʿad בֹּאִ֥י I come bôʾ בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ in peace. šālôm

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar מִיכָ֔יְהוּ And Micaiah mîkāyhû אִם If ʾim שׁ֤וֹב thou return šûb תָּשׁוּב֙ at all šûb בְּשָׁל֔וֹם in peace, šālôm לֹֽא hath not lōʾ דִבֶּ֥ר spoken dābar יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בִּ֑י וַיֹּ֕אמֶר by me. And he said, ʾāmar שִׁמְע֖וּ Hearken, šāmaʿ עַמִּ֥ים O people, ʿam כֻּלָּֽם׃ every one of you. kōl

וַיַּ֧עַל went up ʿālâ מֶֽלֶךְ So the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֥ט and Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ רָמֹ֥ת to Ramoth-gilead. rāmōt gilʿād גִּלְעָֽד׃ gilʿād

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ said ʾāmar מֶ֨לֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֗ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ הִתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ I will disguise myself, ḥāpaś וָבֹ֣א and enter bôʾ בַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה into the battle; milḥāmâ וְאַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ לְבַ֣שׁ but put on lābaš בְּגָדֶ֑יךָ thy robes. beged וַיִּתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ disguised himself, ḥāpaś מֶ֣לֶךְ And the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וַיָּב֖וֹא and went bôʾ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ into the battle. milḥāmâ

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ But the king melek אֲרָ֡ם of Syria ʾărām צִוָּ֣ה commanded ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt שָׂרֵי֩ captains śar הָרֶ֨כֶב chariots, rekeb אֲשֶׁר that had rule over his ʾăšer ל֜וֹ שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים his thirty šĕlôšîm וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙ and two šĕnayim לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar לֹ֚א neither lōʾ תִּלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּ Fight lāḥam אֶת with ʾēt קָטֹ֖ן small qāṭān וְאֶת ʾēt גָּד֑וֹל nor great, gādôl כִּ֛י save kî אִֽם ʾim אֶת with ʾēt מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel. yiśrāʾēl לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ only bad

וַיְהִ֡י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּרְאוֹת֩ saw rāʾâ שָׂרֵ֨י when the captains śar הָרֶ֜כֶב of the chariots rekeb אֶת ʾēt יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֗ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ וְהֵ֤מָּה that they hēm אָֽמְרוּ֙ said, ʾāmar אַ֣ךְ Surely ʾak מֶֽלֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל of Israel. yiśrāʾēl ה֔וּא it hûʾ וַיָּסֻ֥רוּ And they turned aside sûr עָלָ֖יו against ʿal לְהִלָּחֵ֑ם to fight lāḥam וַיִּזְעַ֖ק cried out. zāʿaq יְהֽוֹשָׁפָֽט׃ him: and Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ

וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּרְאוֹת֙ perceived rāʾâ שָׂרֵ֣י when the captains śar הָרֶ֔כֶב of the chariots rekeb כִּֽי that kî לֹא not lōʾ מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl ה֑וּא it hûʾ וַיָּשׁ֖וּבוּ that they turned back šûb מֵאַֽחֲרָֽיו׃ from pursuing him. ʾaḥar

וְאִ֗ישׁ And a man ʾîš מָשַׁ֤ךְ drew māšak בַּקֶּ֙שֶׁת֙ a bow qešet לְתֻמּ֔וֹ at a venture, tōm וַיַּכֶּה֙ and smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt מֶ֣לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בֵּ֥ין between bên הַדְּבָקִ֖ים the joints debeq וּבֵ֣ין bên הַשִּׁרְיָ֑ן of the harness: širyôn וַיֹּ֣אמֶר wherefore he said ʾāmar לְרַכָּב֗וֹ unto the driver of his chariot, rakkāb הֲפֹ֥ךְ Turn hāpak יָֽדְךָ֛ thine hand, yād וְהֽוֹצִיאֵ֥נִי and carry me out yāṣāʾ מִן of min הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה the host; maḥăne כִּ֥י for kî הָֽחֳלֵֽיתִי׃ I am wounded. ḥālâ

וַתַּֽעֲלֶ֤ה increased ʿālâ הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ And the battle milḥāmâ בַּיּ֣וֹם day: yôm הַה֔וּא that hûʾ וְהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ and the king melek הָיָ֧ה was hāyâ מָֽעֳמָ֛ד stayed up ʿāmad בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֖ה in his chariot merkābâ נֹ֣כַח against nōkaḥ אֲרָ֑ם the Syrians, ʾărām וַיָּ֣מָת and died mût בָּעֶ֔רֶב at even: ʿereb וַיִּ֥צֶק ran out yāṣaq דַּֽם and the blood dām הַמַּכָּ֖ה of the wound makkâ אֶל into ʾēl חֵ֥יק the midst ḥêq הָרָֽכֶב׃ of the chariot. rekeb

וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֤ר And there went ʿābar הָֽרִנָּה֙ a proclamation rinnâ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה throughout the host maḥăne כְּבֹ֥א about the going down bôʾ הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ of the sun, šemeš לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar אִ֥ישׁ Every man ʾîš אֶל to ʾēl עִיר֖וֹ his city, ʿîr וְאִ֥ישׁ and every man ʾîš אֶל to ʾēl אַרְצֽוֹ׃ his own country. ʾereṣ

וַיָּ֣מָת died, mût הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ So the king melek וַיָּב֖וֹא and was brought bôʾ שֹֽׁמְר֑וֹן to Samaria; šōmĕrôn וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ and they buried qābar אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek בְּשֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃ in Samaria. šōmĕrôn

וַיִּשְׁטֹ֨ף And washed šāṭap אֶת ʾēt הָרֶ֜כֶב the chariot rekeb עַ֣ל׀ in ʿal בְּרֵכַ֣ת the pool bĕrēkâ שֹֽׁמְר֗וֹן of Samaria; šōmĕrôn וַיָּלֹ֤קּוּ licked up lāqaq הַכְּלָבִים֙ and the dogs keleb אֶת ʾēt דָּמ֔וֹ his blood; dām וְהַזֹּנ֖וֹת his armour; zōnôt רָחָ֑צוּ and they washed rāḥaṣ כִּדְבַ֥ר according unto the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer דִּבֵּֽר׃ he spake. dābar

וְיֶתֶר֩ Now the rest yeter דִּבְרֵ֨י of the acts dābār אַחְאָ֜ב of Ahab, ʾaḥʾāb וְכָל and all kōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֗ה he did, ʿāśâ וּבֵ֤ית house bayit הַשֵּׁן֙ and the ivory šēn אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer בָּנָ֔ה he made, bānâ וְכָל and all kōl הֶֽעָרִ֖ים the cities ʿîr אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בָּנָ֑ה he built, bānâ הֲלוֹא not lōʾ הֵ֣ם they hēm כְּתוּבִ֗ים written kātab עַל in ʿal סֵ֛פֶר the book sēper דִּבְרֵ֥י of the chronicles dābār הַיָּמִ֖ים yôm לְמַלְכֵ֥י of the kings melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel? yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב slept šākab אַחְאָ֖ב So Ahab ʾaḥʾāb עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֑יו his fathers; ʾāb וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ reigned mālak אֲחַזְיָ֥הוּ and Ahaziah ʾăḥazyâ בְנ֖וֹ his son bēn תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ in his stead. taḥat

וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ בֶּן the son bēn אָסָ֔א of Asa ʾāsāʾ מָלַ֖ךְ began to reign mālak עַל over ʿal יְהוּדָ֑ה Judah yĕhûdâ בִּשְׁנַ֣ת year šāne אַרְבַּ֔ע in the fourth ʾarbaʿ לְאַחְאָ֖ב of Ahab ʾaḥʾāb מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֗ט Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ בֶּן old bēn שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים thirty šĕlôšîm וְחָמֵ֤שׁ and five ḥāmēš שָׁנָה֙ years šāne בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ when he began to reign; mālak וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים twenty ʿeśrîm וְחָמֵשׁ֙ and five ḥāmēš שָׁנָ֔ה years šāne מָלַ֖ךְ and he reigned mālak בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם in Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim וְשֵׁ֣ם name šēm אִמּ֔וֹ And his mother's ʾēm עֲזוּבָ֖ה Azubah ʿăzûbâ בַּת the daughter bat שִׁלְחִֽי׃ of Shilhi. šilḥî

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ And he walked hālak בְּכָל in all kōl דֶּ֛רֶךְ the ways derek אָסָ֥א of Asa ʾāsāʾ אָבִ֖יו his father; ʾāb לֹא lōʾ סָ֣ר he turned not aside sûr מִמֶּ֑נּוּ from min לַֽעֲשׂ֥וֹת it, doing ʿāśâ הַיָּשָׁ֖ר right yāšār בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the eyes ʿayin יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord: yĕhōwâ אַ֥ךְ nevertheless ʾak הַבָּמ֖וֹת the high places bāmâ לֹֽא were not lōʾ סָ֑רוּ taken away; sûr ע֥וֹד yet ʿôd הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam מְזַבְּחִ֥ים offered zābaḥ וּֽמְקַטְּרִ֖ים and burnt incense qāṭar בַּבָּמֽוֹת׃ in the high places. bāmâ

וַיַּשְׁלֵ֥ם made peace šālam יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֖ט And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ עִם with ʿim מֶ֥לֶךְ the king melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וְיֶ֨תֶר Now the rest yeter דִּבְרֵ֧י of the acts dābār יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֛ט of Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ וּגְבֽוּרָת֥וֹ and his might gĕbûrâ אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֖ה he shewed, ʿāśâ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר and how ʾăšer נִלְחָ֑ם he warred, lāḥam הֲלֹא not lōʾ הֵ֣ם they hēm כְּתוּבִ֗ים written kātab עַל in ʿal סֵ֛פֶר the book sēper דִּבְרֵ֥י of the chronicles dābār הַיָּמִ֖ים yôm לְמַלְכֵ֥י of the kings melek יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah? yĕhûdâ

וְיֶ֙תֶר֙ And the remnant yeter הַקָּדֵ֔שׁ of the sodomites, qādēš אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer נִשְׁאַ֔ר remained šāʾar בִּימֵ֖י in the days yôm אָסָ֣א Asa, ʾāsāʾ אָבִ֑יו of his father ʾāb בִּעֵ֖ר he took bāʿar מִן out of min הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the land. ʾereṣ

וּמֶ֥לֶךְ king melek אֵ֛ין then no ʾayin בֶּֽאֱד֖וֹם in Edom: ʾĕdōm נִצָּ֥ב a deputy nāṣab מֶֽלֶךְ׃ king. melek

יְהֽוֹשָׁפָ֡ט Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ עָשָׂר֩ made ʿāśâ אֳנִיּ֨וֹת ships ʾŏniyyâ תַּרְשִׁ֜ישׁ of Tharshish taršîš לָלֶ֧כֶת to go hālak אֹפִ֛ירָה to Ophir ʾôpîr לַזָּהָ֖ב for gold: zāhāb וְלֹ֣א not; lōʾ הָלָ֑ךְ but they went hālak כִּֽי for kî נִשְׁבְּר֥הּ were broken šābar אֳנִיּ֖וֹת the ships ʾŏniyyâ בְּעֶצְי֥וֹן גָּֽבֶר׃ at Ezion-geber. ʿeṣyôn geber

אָ֠ז Then ʾāz אָמַ֞ר said ʾāmar אֲחַזְיָ֤הוּ Ahaziah ʾăḥazyâ בֶן the son bēn אַחְאָב֙ of Ahab ʾaḥʾāb אֶל unto ʾēl יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט Jehoshaphat, yĕhôšāpāṭ יֵֽלְכ֧וּ go hālak עֲבָדַ֛י Let my servants ʿebed עִם with ʿim עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ thy servants ʿebed בָּֽאֳנִיּ֑וֹת in the ships. ʾŏniyyâ וְלֹ֥א not. lōʾ אָבָ֖ה would ʾābâ יְהֽוֹשָׁפָֽט׃ But Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב slept šākab יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ And Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֔יו his fathers, ʾāb וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ and was buried qābar עִם with ʿim אֲבֹתָ֔יו his fathers ʾāb בְּעִ֖יר in the city ʿîr דָּוִ֣ד of David dāwid אָבִ֑יו his father: ʾāb וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ reigned mālak יְהוֹרָ֥ם and Jehoram yĕhôrām בְּנ֖וֹ his son bēn תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ in his stead. taḥat

אֲחַזְיָ֣הוּ Ahaziah ʾăḥazyâ בֶן the son bēn אַחְאָ֗ב of Ahab ʾaḥʾāb מָלַ֤ךְ began to reign mālak עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן in Samaria šōmĕrôn בִּשְׁנַת֙ year šāne שְׁבַ֣ע the seventeenth šebaʿ עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה ʿāśār לִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֖ט of Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ and reigned mālak עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel. yiśrāʾēl שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃ two years šāne

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ And he did ʿāśâ הָרַ֖ע evil raʿ בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight ʿayin יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ and walked hālak בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ in the way derek אָבִיו֙ of his father, ʾāb וּבְדֶ֣רֶךְ and in the way derek אִמּ֔וֹ of his mother, ʾēm וּבְדֶ֙רֶךְ֙ and in the way derek יָֽרָבְעָ֣ם of Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn נְבָ֔ט of Nebat, nĕbāṭ אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ʾăšer הֶֽחֱטִ֖יא to sin: ḥāṭāʾ אֶת ʾēt יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ made Israel yiśrāʾēl

וַֽיַּעֲבֹד֙ For he served ʿābad אֶת ʾēt הַבַּ֔עַל Baal, baʿal וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖ה and worshipped šāḥâ ל֑וֹ וַיַּכְעֵ֗ס him, and provoked to anger kaʿas אֶת ʾēt יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl כְּכֹ֥ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֖ה had done. ʿāśâ אָבִֽיו׃ his father ʾāb
