וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ went hālak רְחַבְעָ֖ם And Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām שְׁכֶ֑ם to Shechem: šĕkem כִּ֥י for kî שְׁכֶ֛ם to Shechem šĕkem בָּ֥א were come bôʾ כָל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiśrāʾēl לְהַמְלִ֥יךְ to make him king. mālak אֹתֽוֹ׃ ʾēt

וַיְהִ֞י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ׀ heard šāmaʿ יָֽרָבְעָ֣ם when Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn נְבָ֗ט of Nebat, nĕbāṭ וְהוּא֙ who hûʾ עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ was yet ʿôd בְמִצְרַ֔יִם in Egypt, miṣrayim אֲשֶׁ֣ר (for ʾăšer בָּרַ֔ח he was fled bāraḥ מִפְּנֵ֖י from the presence pānîm הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ of king melek שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה Solomon, šĕlōmō וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב dwelt yāšab יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם and Jeroboam yorobʿām בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃ in Egypt;) miṣrayim

וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ That they sent šālaḥ וַיִּקְרְאוּ and called qārāʾ ל֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֥או came, bôʾ יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם him. And Jeroboam yorobʿām וְכָל and all kōl קְהַ֣ל the congregation qāhāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ and spake dābar אֶל unto ʾēl רְחַבְעָ֖ם Rehoboam, rĕḥabʿām לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

אָבִ֖יךָ Thy father ʾāb הִקְשָׁ֣ה grievous: qāšâ אֶת made ʾēt עֻלֵּ֑נוּ our yoke ʿōl וְאַתָּ֡ה therefore make thou ʾattâ עַתָּ֣ה now ʿattâ הָקֵל֩ us, lighter, qālal מֵֽעֲבֹדַ֨ת service ʿăbōdâ אָבִ֜יךָ of thy father, ʾāb הַקָּשָׁ֗ה the grievous qāše וּמֵעֻלּ֧וֹ yoke ʿōl הַכָּבֵ֛ד and his heavy kābēd אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥ן he put nātan עָלֵ֖ינוּ upon ʿal וְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ and we will serve thee. ʿābad

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר And he said ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl לְכוּ them, Depart hālak עֹ֛ד yet ʿôd שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה three šālôš יָמִ֖ים days, yôm וְשׁ֣וּבוּ then come again šûb אֵלָ֑י to ʾēl וַיֵּֽלְכ֖וּ departed. hālak הָעָֽם׃ me. And the people ʿam

וַיִּוָּעַ֞ץ consulted yāʿaṣ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ And king melek רְחַבְעָ֗ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām אֶת with ʾēt הַזְּקֵנִים֙ the old men, zāqēn אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הָי֣וּ while hāyâ עֹֽמְדִ֗ים stood ʿāmad אֶת ʾēt פְּנֵי֙ before pānîm שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה Solomon šĕlōmō אָבִ֔יו his father ʾāb בִּֽהְיֹת֥וֹ hāyâ חַ֖י he yet lived, ḥay לֵאמֹ֑ר and said, ʾāmar אֵ֚יךְ How ʾêk אַתֶּ֣ם do ye ʾattâ נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים advise yāʿaṣ לְהָשִׁ֥יב that I may šûb אֶת ʾēt הָֽעָם people? ʿam הַזֶּ֖ה this ze דָּבָֽר׃ answer dābār

וַיְדַבְּרֻ֨ And they spake dābar אֵלָ֜יו unto ʾēl לֵאמֹ֗ר him, saying, ʾāmar אִם If ʾim הַ֠יּוֹם this day, yôm תִּֽהְיֶה thou wilt be hāyâ עֶ֜בֶד a servant ʿebed לָעָ֤ם people ʿam הַזֶּה֙ unto this ze וַֽעֲבַדְתָּ֔ם and wilt serve ʿābad וַֽעֲנִיתָ֕ם them, and answer ʿānâ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ them, and speak dābar אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם to ʾēl דְּבָרִ֣ים words dābār טוֹבִ֑ים good ṭôb וְהָי֥וּ them, then they will be hāyâ לְךָ֛ עֲבָדִ֖ים thy servants ʿebed כָּל kōl הַיָּמִֽים׃ for ever. yôm

וַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛ב But he forsook ʿāzab אֶת ʾēt עֲצַ֥ת the counsel ʿēṣâ הַזְּקֵנִ֖ים of the old men, zāqēn אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer יְעָצֻ֑הוּ they had given yāʿaṣ וַיִּוָּעַ֗ץ him, and consulted yāʿaṣ אֶת ʾēt הַיְלָדִים֙ with the young men yeled אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer גָּֽדְל֣וּ were grown up gādal אִתּ֔וֹ with ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֥ר him, which ʾăšer הָעֹֽמְדִ֖ים stood ʿāmad לְפָנָֽיו׃ before him: pānîm

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר And he said ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl מָ֚ה them, What mâ אַתֶּ֣ם ye ʾattâ נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים counsel give yāʿaṣ וְנָשִׁ֥יב that we may šûb דָּבָ֖ר answer dābār אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֣ם people, ʿam הַזֶּ֑ה this ze אֲשֶׁ֨ר who ʾăšer דִּבְּר֤וּ have spoken dābar אֵלַי֙ to ʾēl לֵאמֹ֔ר me, saying, ʾāmar הָקֵל֙ us lighter? qālal מִן min הָעֹ֔ל Make the yoke ʿōl אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer נָתַ֥ן did put nātan אָבִ֖יךָ thy father ʾāb עָלֵֽינוּ׃ upon ʿal

וַיְדַבְּר֣וּ him spake dābar אֵלָ֗יו unto ʾēl הַיְלָדִים֙ And the young men yeled אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer גָּֽדְל֣וּ were grown up gādal אִתּוֹ֮ with ʾēt לֵאמֹר֒ him, saying, ʾāmar כֹּֽה Thus kō תֹאמַ֣ר shalt thou speak ʾāmar לָעָ֣ם people ʿam הַזֶּ֡ה unto this ze אֲשֶׁר֩ that ʾăšer דִּבְּר֨וּ spake dābar אֵלֶ֜יךָ unto ʾēl לֵאמֹ֗ר thee, saying, ʾāmar אָבִ֙יךָ֙ Thy father ʾāb הִכְבִּ֣יד heavy, kābad אֶת made ʾēt עֻלֵּ֔נוּ our yoke ʿōl וְאַתָּ֖ה but make thou ʾattâ הָקֵ֣ל lighter qālal מֵֽעָלֵ֑ינוּ unto ʿal כֹּ֚ה us; thus kō תְּדַבֵּ֣ר shalt thou say dābar אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם unto ʾēl קָֽטָנִּ֥י them, My little qōṭen עָבָ֖ה shall be thicker ʿābâ מִמָּתְנֵ֥י loins. mōten אָבִֽי׃ than my father's ʾāb

וְעַתָּ֗ה And now ʿattâ אָבִי֙ whereas my father ʾāb הֶעְמִ֤יס did lade ʿāmas עֲלֵיכֶם֙ ʿal עֹ֣ל yoke, ʿōl כָּבֵ֔ד you with a heavy kābēd וַֽאֲנִ֖י I ʾănî אוֹסִ֣יף will add yāsap עַֽל to ʿal עֻלְּכֶ֑ם your yoke: ʿōl אָבִ֗י my father ʾāb יִסַּ֤ר hath chastised yāsar אֶתְכֶם֙ ʾēt בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים you with whips, šôṭ וַֽאֲנִ֕י but I ʾănî אֲיַסֵּ֥ר will chastise yāsar אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt בָּֽעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ you with scorpions. ʿaqrāb

וַיָּב֨וֹ came bôʾ יָֽרָבְעָ֧ם So Jeroboam yorobʿām וְכָל and all kōl הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam אֶל to ʾēl רְחַבְעָ֖ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām בַּיּ֣וֹם day, yôm הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י the third šĕlîšî כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֤ר had appointed, dābar הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar שׁ֥וּבוּ Come šûb אֵלַ֖י to ʾēl בַּיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃ me again the third šĕlîšî

וַיַּ֧עַן answered ʿānâ הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ And the king melek אֶת ʾēt הָעָ֖ם the people ʿam קָשָׁ֑ה roughly, qāše וַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛ב and forsook ʿāzab אֶת ʾēt עֲצַ֥ת counsel ʿēṣâ הַזְּקֵנִ֖ים the old men's zāqēn אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer יְעָצֻֽהוּ׃ they gave him; yāʿaṣ

וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר And spake dābar אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם to ʾēl כַּֽעֲצַ֤ת them after the counsel ʿēṣâ הַיְלָדִים֙ of the young men, yeled לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar אָבִי֙ My father ʾāb הִכְבִּ֣יד heavy, kābad אֶֽת made ʾēt עֻלְּכֶ֔ם your yoke ʿōl וַֽאֲנִ֖י and I ʾănî אֹסִ֣יף will add yāsap עַֽל to ʿal עֻלְּכֶ֑ם your yoke: ʿōl אָבִ֗י my father ʾāb יִסַּ֤ר chastised yāsar אֶתְכֶם֙ ʾēt בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים you with whips, šôṭ וַֽאֲנִ֕י but I ʾănî אֲיַסֵּ֥ר will chastise yāsar אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt בָּֽעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ you with scorpions. ʿaqrāb

וְלֹֽא not lōʾ שָׁמַ֥ע hearkened šāmaʿ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Wherefore the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl הָעָ֑ם the people; ʿam כִּֽי for kî הָיְתָ֤ה was hāyâ סִבָּה֙ the cause sibbâ מֵעִ֣ם from ʿim יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לְמַ֜עַן that maʿan הָקִ֣ים he might perform qûm אֶת ʾēt דְּבָר֗וֹ his saying, dābār אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֤ר spake dābar יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ בְּיַד֙ by yād אֲחִיָּ֣ה Ahijah ʾăḥiyyâ הַשִּֽׁילֹנִ֔י the Shilonite šîlônî אֶל unto ʾēl יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם Jeroboam yorobʿām בֶּן the son bēn נְבָֽט׃ of Nebat. nĕbāṭ

וַיַּ֣רְא saw rāʾâ כָּל when all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל Israel yiśrāʾēl כִּ֠י that kî לֹֽא not lōʾ שָׁמַ֣ע hearkened šāmaʿ הַמֶּלֶךְ֮ the king melek אֲלֵהֶם֒ unto ʾēl וַיָּשִׁ֣בוּ So šûb הָעָ֣ם them, the people ʿam אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ the king, melek דָּבָ֣ר׀ answered dābār לֵאמֹ֡ר saying, ʾāmar מַה What mâ לָּנוּ֩ חֵ֨לֶק portion ḥēleq בְּדָוִ֜ד have we in David? dāwid וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ נַחֲלָ֣ה inheritance naḥălâ בְּבֶן in the son bēn יִשַׁ֗י of Jesse: yišay לְאֹֽהָלֶ֙יךָ֙ to your tents, ʾōhel יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל O Israel: yiśrāʾēl עַתָּ֕ה now ʿattâ רְאֵ֥ה see rāʾâ בֵֽיתְךָ֖ to thine own house, bayit דָּוִ֑ד David. dāwid וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ departed hālak יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל So Israel yiśrāʾēl לְאֹֽהָלָֽיו׃ unto their tents. ʾōhel

וּבְנֵ֣י But the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl הַיֹּֽשְׁבִ֖ים which dwelt yāšab בְּעָרֵ֣י in the cities ʿîr יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ reigned mālak עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם over them. ʿal רְחַבְעָֽם׃ Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām

וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח sent šālaḥ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ Then king melek רְחַבְעָ֗ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām אֶת ʾēt אֲדֹרָם֙ Adoram, ʾădōrām אֲשֶׁ֣ר who ʾăšer עַל over ʿal הַמַּ֔ס the tribute; mas וַיִּרְגְּמ֨וּ stoned rāgam כָל and all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל Israel yiśrāʾēl בּ֛וֹ אֶ֖בֶן him with stones, ʾeben וַיָּמֹ֑ת that he died. mût וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ Therefore king melek רְחַבְעָ֗ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām הִתְאַמֵּץ֙ made speed ʾāmaṣ לַֽעֲל֣וֹת to get him up ʿālâ בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֔ה to his chariot, merkābâ לָנ֖וּס to flee nûs יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ to Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וַיִּפְשְׁע֤וּ rebelled pāšaʿ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ So Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּבֵ֣ית against the house bayit דָּוִ֔ד of David dāwid עַ֖ד unto ʿad הַיּ֥וֹם day. yôm הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

וַיְהִ֞י And it came to pass, hāyâ כִּשְׁמֹ֤עַ heard šāmaʿ כָּל when all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ Israel yiśrāʾēl כִּֽי that kî שָׁ֣ב was come again, šûb יָֽרָבְעָ֔ם Jeroboam yorobʿām וַֽיִּשְׁלְח֗וּ that they sent šālaḥ וַיִּקְרְא֤וּ and called qārāʾ אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt אֶל him unto ʾēl הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה the congregation, ʿēdâ וַיַּמְלִ֥יכוּ and made him king mālak אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt עַל over ʿal כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel: yiśrāʾēl לֹ֤א none lōʾ הָיָה֙ there was hāyâ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י that followed ʾaḥar בֵית the house bayit דָּוִ֔ד of David, dāwid זֽוּלָתִ֥י but zûlâ שֵֽׁבֶט the tribe šēbeṭ יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ only. bad

וַיָּבֹ֣או was come bôʾ רְחַבְעָם֮ And when Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām יְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֒ to Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim וַיַּקְהֵל֩ he assembled qāhal אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl בֵּ֨ית the house bayit יְהוּדָ֜ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וְאֶת with ʾēt שֵׁ֣בֶט the tribe šēbeṭ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן of Benjamin, binyāmîn מֵאָ֨ה an hundred mēʾâ וּשְׁמֹנִ֥ים and fourscore šĕmōnîm אֶ֛לֶף thousand ʾelep בָּח֖וּר chosen men, bāḥar עֹשֵׂ֣ה which were warriors, ʿāśâ מִלְחָמָ֑ה milḥāmâ לְהִלָּחֵם֙ to fight lāḥam עִם against ʿim בֵּ֣ית the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לְהָשִׁיב֙ to bring šûb אֶת ʾēt הַמְּלוּכָ֔ה the kingdom mĕlûkâ לִרְחַבְעָ֖ם again to Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām בֶּן the son bēn שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃ of Solomon. šĕlōmō

וַֽיְהִי֙ came hāyâ דְּבַ֣ר But the word dābār הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל unto ʾēl שְׁמַעְיָ֥ה Shemaiah šĕmaʿyâ אִישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

אֱמֹ֗ר Speak ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl רְחַבְעָ֤ם Rehoboam, rĕḥabʿām בֶּן the son bēn שְׁלֹמֹה֙ of Solomon, šĕlōmō מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֔ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וְאֶל and unto ʾēl כָּל all kōl בֵּ֥ית the house bayit יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yĕhûdâ וּבִנְיָמִ֑ין and Benjamin, binyāmîn וְיֶ֥תֶר and to the remnant yeter הָעָ֖ם of the people, ʿam לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

כֹּ֣ה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֡ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֹֽא Ye shall not lōʾ תַעֲלוּ֩ go up, ʿālâ וְלֹא nor lōʾ תִלָּ֨חֲמ֜וּן fight lāḥam עִם against ʿim אֲחֵיכֶ֣ם your brethren ʾāḥ בְּנֵֽי the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl שׁ֚וּבוּ return šûb אִ֣ישׁ every man ʾîš לְבֵית֔וֹ to his house; bayit כִּ֧י for kî מֵֽאִתִּ֛י from ʾēt נִֽהְיָ֖ה is hāyâ הַדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze וַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ me. They hearkened šāmaʿ אֶת therefore ʾēt דְּבַ֣ר to the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיָּשֻׁ֥בוּ and returned šûb לָלֶ֖כֶת to depart, hālak כִּדְבַ֥ר according to the word dābār יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיִּ֨בֶן built bānâ יָֽרָבְעָ֧ם Then Jeroboam yorobʿām אֶת ʾēt שְׁכֶ֛ם Shechem šĕkem בְּהַ֥ר in mount har אֶפְרַ֖יִם Ephraim, ʾeprayim וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב and dwelt yāšab בָּ֑הּ וַיֵּצֵ֣א therein; and went out yāṣāʾ מִשָּׁ֔ם from thence, šām וַיִּ֖בֶן and built bānâ אֶת ʾēt פְּנוּאֵֽל׃ Penuel. pĕnûʾēl

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said ʾāmar יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם And Jeroboam yorobʿām בְּלִבּ֑וֹ in his heart, lēb עַתָּ֛ה Now ʿattâ תָּשׁ֥וּב return šûb הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה shall the kingdom mamlākâ לְבֵ֥ית to the house bayit דָּוִֽד׃ of David: dāwid

אִֽם If ʾim יַעֲלֶ֣ה׀ go up ʿālâ הָעָ֣ם people ʿam הַזֶּ֗ה this ze לַֽעֲשׂ֨וֹת to do ʿāśâ זְבָחִ֤ים sacrifice zebaḥ בְּבֵית in the house bayit יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם at Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim וְ֠שָׁב turn again šûb לֵ֣ב then shall the heart lēb הָעָ֤ם people ʿam הַזֶּה֙ of this ze אֶל unto ʾēl אֲדֹ֣נֵיהֶ֔ם their lord, ʾādôn אֶל unto ʾēl רְחַבְעָ֖ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah, yĕhûdâ וַֽהֲרָגֻ֕נִי and they shall kill hārag וְשָׁ֖בוּ me, and go again šûb אֶל to ʾēl רְחַבְעָ֥ם Rehoboam rĕḥabʿām מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah. yĕhûdâ

וַיִּוָּעַ֣ץ took counsel, yāʿaṣ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ Whereupon the king melek וַיַּ֕עַשׂ and made ʿāśâ שְׁנֵ֖י two šĕnayim עֶגְלֵ֣י calves ʿēgel זָהָ֑ב gold, zāhāb וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵהֶ֗ם unto ʾēl רַב them, It is too much rab לָכֶם֙ מֵֽעֲל֣וֹת for you to go up ʿālâ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם to Jerusalem: yĕrûšālaim הִנֵּ֤ה behold hinnē אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy gods, ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל O Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer הֶֽעֱל֖וּךָ brought thee up ʿālâ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land ʾereṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt. miṣrayim

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם And he set śûm אֶת ʾēt הָֽאֶחָ֖ד the one ʾeḥād בְּבֵֽית אֵ֑ל in Beth-el, bêt ʾēl וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽאֶחָ֖ד and the other ʾeḥād נָתַ֥ן put nātan בְּדָֽן׃ he in Dan. dān

וַיְהִ֛י became hāyâ הַדָּבָ֥ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֖ה And this ze לְחַטָּ֑את a sin: ḥaṭṭāʾâ וַיֵּֽלְכ֥וּ went hālak הָעָ֛ם for the people ʿam לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הָֽאֶחָ֖ד the one, ʾeḥād עַד unto ʿad דָּֽן׃ Dan. dān

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ And he made ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt בֵּ֣ית an house bayit בָּמ֑וֹת of high places, bāmâ וַיַּ֤עַשׂ and made ʿāśâ כֹּֽהֲנִים֙ priests kōhēn מִקְצ֣וֹת of the lowest qāṣâ הָעָ֔ם of the people, ʿam אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא not lōʾ הָי֖וּ were hāyâ מִבְּנֵ֥י of the sons bēn לֵוִֽי׃ of Levi. lēwî

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ ordained ʿāśâ יָֽרָבְעָ֣ם׀ And Jeroboam yorobʿām חָ֡ג a feast ḥag בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ month, ḥōdeš הַשְּׁמִינִ֣י in the eighth šĕmînî בַּחֲמִשָּֽׁה on the fifteenth ḥāmēš עָשָׂר֩ ʿāśār י֨וֹם׀ day yôm לַחֹ֜דֶשׁ of the month, ḥōdeš כֶּחָ֣ג׀ like unto the feast ḥag אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בִּֽיהוּדָ֗ה in Judah, yĕhûdâ וַיַּ֙עַל֙ and he offered ʿālâ עַל upon ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ the altar. mizbēaḥ כֵּ֤ן So kēn עָשָׂה֙ did ʿāśâ בְּבֵֽית אֵ֔ל he in Beth-el, bêt ʾēl לְזַבֵּ֖חַ sacrificing zābaḥ לָֽעֲגָלִ֣ים unto the calves ʿēgel אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂ֑ה he had made: ʿāśâ וְהֶֽעֱמִיד֙ and he placed ʿāmad בְּבֵ֣ית אֵ֔ל in Beth-el bêt ʾēl אֶת ʾēt כֹּֽהֲנֵ֥י the priests kōhēn הַבָּמ֖וֹת of the high places bāmâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עָשָֽׂה׃ he had made. ʿāśâ

וַיַּ֜עַל So he offered ʿālâ עַֽל upon ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֣חַ׀ the altar mizbēaḥ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer עָשָׂ֣ה he had made ʿāśâ בְּבֵֽית אֵ֗ל in Beth-el bêt ʾēl בַּֽחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה the fifteenth ḥāmēš עָשָׂ֥ר ʿāśār יוֹם֙ day yôm בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ month, ḥōdeš הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י of the eighth šĕmînî בַּחֹ֖דֶשׁ in the month ḥōdeš אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בָּדָ֣א he had devised bādāʾ מִלִּבּ֑דֹ of his own heart; lēb וַיַּ֤עַשׂ and ordained ʿāśâ חָג֙ a feast ḥag לִבְנֵ֣י unto the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl וַיַּ֥עַל and he offered ʿālâ עַל upon ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ the altar, mizbēaḥ לְהַקְטִֽיר׃ and burnt incense. qāṭar
