וַֽיְהִי֙ it came to pass, hāyâ אַֽחֲרֵי Now after this ʾaḥar כֵ֔ן kēn וַיַּ֥ךְ smote nākâ דָּוִ֛יד that David dāwid אֶת ʾēt פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים the Philistines, pĕlištî וַיַּכְנִיעֵ֑ם and subdued kānaʿ וַיִּקַּ֛ח them, and took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt גַּ֥ת Gath gat וּבְנֹתֶ֖יהָ and her towns bat מִיַּ֥ד out of the hand yād פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ of the Philistines. pĕlištî

וַיַּ֖ךְ And he smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt מוֹאָ֑ב Moab; môʾāb וַיִּֽהְי֤וּ became hāyâ מוֹאָב֙ and the Moabites môʾāb עֲבָדִ֣ים servants, ʿebed לְדָוִ֔יד David's dāwid נֹֽשְׂאֵ֖י brought nāśāʾ מִנְחָֽה׃ gifts. minḥâ

וַיַּ֥ךְ smote nākâ דָּוִ֛יד And David dāwid אֶת ʾēt הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר Hadarezer hădarʿezer מֶֽלֶךְ king melek צוֹבָ֖ה of Zobah ṣôbāʾ חֲמָ֑תָה unto Hamath, ḥămāt בְּלֶכְתּ֕וֹ as he went hālak לְהַצִּ֥יב to stablish nāṣab יָד֖וֹ his dominion yād בִּֽנְהַר by the river nāhār פְּרָֽת׃ Euphrates. pĕrāt

וַיִּלְכֹּד֩ took lākad דָּוִ֨יד And David dāwid מִמֶּ֜נּוּ from min אֶ֣לֶף him a thousand ʾelep רֶ֗כֶב chariots, rekeb וְשִׁבְעַ֤ת and seven šebaʿ אֲלָפִים֙ thousand ʾelep פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים horsemen, pāroš וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and twenty ʿeśrîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep אִ֣ישׁ footmen: ʾîš רַגְלִ֑י raglî וַיְעַקֵּ֤ר also houghed ʿāqar דָּוִיד֙ David dāwid אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הָרֶ֔כֶב the chariot rekeb וַיּוֹתֵ֥ר but reserved yātar מִמֶּ֖נּוּ of min מֵ֥אָה them an hundred mēʾâ רָֽכֶב׃ chariots. rekeb

וַיָּבֹא֙ came bôʾ אֲרַ֣ם And when the Syrians ʾărām דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק of Damascus dammeśeq לַעְז֕וֹר to help ʿāzar לַֽהֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר Hadarezer hădarʿezer מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek צוֹבָ֑ה of Zobah, ṣôbāʾ וַיַּ֤ךְ slew nākâ דָּוִיד֙ David dāwid בַּֽאֲרָ֔ם of the Syrians ʾărām עֶשְׂרִֽים and twenty ʿeśrîm וּשְׁנַ֥יִם two šĕnayim אֶ֖לֶף thousand ʾelep אִֽישׁ׃ men. ʾîš

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם put śûm דָּוִיד֙ Then David dāwid בַּֽאֲרַ֣ם in Syria-damascus; ʾărām דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק dammeśeq וַיְהִ֤י became hāyâ אֲרָם֙ and the Syrians ʾărām לְדָוִ֔יד David's dāwid עֲבָדִ֖ים servants, ʿebed נֹֽשְׂאֵ֣י brought nāśāʾ מִנְחָ֑ה gifts. minḥâ וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע preserved yāšaʿ יְהוָה֙ Thus the Lord yĕhōwâ לְדָוִ֔יד David dāwid בְּכֹ֖ל whithersoever kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer הָלָֽךְ׃ he went. hālak

וַיִּקַּ֣ח took lāqaḥ דָּוִ֗יד And David dāwid אֵ֚ת ʾēt שִׁלְטֵ֣י the shields šeleṭ הַזָּהָ֔ב of gold zāhāb אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הָי֔וּ were hāyâ עַ֖ל on ʿal עַבְדֵ֣י the servants ʿebed הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר of Hadarezer, hădarʿezer וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם and brought bôʾ יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ them to Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וּמִטִּבְחַ֤ת Likewise from Tibhath, ṭibḥat וּמִכּוּן֙ and from Chun, kûn עָרֵ֣י cities ʿîr הֲדַדְעֶ֔זֶר of Hadarezer, hădarʿezer לָקַ֥ח brought lāqaḥ דָּוִ֛יד David dāwid נְחֹ֖שֶׁת brass, nĕḥōšet רַבָּ֣ה much rab מְאֹ֑ד very mĕʾōd בָּ֣הּ׀ עָשָׂ֣ה made ʿāśâ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה wherewith Solomon šĕlōmō אֶת ʾēt יָ֤ם sea, yām הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ the brasen nĕḥōšet וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽעַמּוּדִ֔ים and the pillars, ʿammûd וְאֵ֖ת ʾēt כְּלֵ֥י and the vessels kĕlî הַנְּחֹֽשֶׁת׃ of brass. nĕḥōšet

וַיִּשְׁמַ֕ע heard šāmaʿ תֹּ֖עוּ Now when Tou tōʿû מֶ֣לֶךְ king melek חֲמָ֑ת of Hamath ḥămāt כִּ֚י how kî הִכָּ֣ה had smitten nākâ דָוִ֔יד David dāwid אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl חֵ֖יל the host ḥayil הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר of Hadarezer hădarʿezer מֶֽלֶךְ king melek צוֹבָֽה׃ of Zobah; ṣôbāʾ

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח He sent šālaḥ אֶת ʾēt הֲדֽוֹרָם Hadoram hădôrām בְּנ֣וֹ his son bēn אֶל to ʾēl הַמֶּֽלֶךְ king melek דָּ֠וִיד David, dāwid לִשְׁאָול to inquire šāʾal ל֨וֹ šāʾal לְשָׁל֜וֹם of his welfare, šālôm וּֽלְבָרֲכ֗וֹ and to congratulate bārak עַל֩ him, because ʿal אֲשֶׁ֨ר ʾăšer נִלְחַ֤ם he had fought lāḥam בַּֽהֲדַדְעֶ֙זֶר֙ against Hadarezer, hădarʿezer וַיַּכֵּ֔הוּ and smitten nākâ כִּי him; (for kî אִ֛ישׁ had war ʾîš מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת milḥāmâ תֹּ֖עוּ with Tou;) tōʿû הָיָ֣ה hāyâ הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר Hadarezer hădarʿezer וְכֹ֗ל and all manner kōl כְּלֵ֛י of vessels kĕlî זָהָ֥ב of gold zāhāb וָכֶ֖סֶף and silver kesep וּנְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ and brass. nĕḥōšet

גַּם Them also gam אֹתָ֗ם ʾēt הִקְדִּ֞ישׁ dedicated qādaš הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ king melek דָּוִיד֙ David dāwid לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord, yĕhōwâ עִם with ʿim הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ the silver kesep וְהַזָּהָ֔ב and the gold zāhāb אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer נָשָׂ֖א he brought nāśāʾ מִכָּל from all kōl הַגּוֹיִ֑ם nations; gôy מֵֽאֱד֤וֹם from Edom, ʾĕdōm וּמִמּוֹאָב֙ and from Moab, môʾāb וּמִבְּנֵ֣י and from the children bēn עַמּ֔וֹן of Ammon, ʿammôn וּמִפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים and from the Philistines, pĕlištî וּמֵֽעֲמָלֵֽק׃ and from Amalek. ʿămālēq

וְאַבְשַׁ֣י Moreover Abishai ʾăbîšay בֶּן the son bēn צְרוּיָ֗ה of Zeruiah ṣĕrûyâ הִכָּ֤ה slew nākâ אֶת ʾēt אֱדוֹם֙ of the Edomites ʾĕdōm בְּגֵ֣יא in the valley gayʾ הַמֶּ֔לַח of salt melaḥ שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה eighteen šĕmōne עָשָׂ֖ר ʿāśār אָֽלֶף׃ thousand. ʾelep

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם And he put śûm בֶּֽאֱדוֹם֙ in Edom; ʾĕdōm נְצִיבִ֔ים garrisons nĕṣîb וַיִּֽהְי֥וּ became hāyâ כָל and all kōl אֱד֖וֹם the Edomites ʾĕdōm עֲבָדִ֣ים servants. ʿebed לְדָוִ֑יד David's dāwid וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע preserved yāšaʿ יְהוָה֙ Thus the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֔יד David dāwid בְּכֹ֖ל whithersoever kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר ʾăšer הָלָֽךְ׃ he went. hālak

וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ reigned mālak דָּוִ֖יד So David dāwid עַל over ʿal כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיְהִ֗י hāyâ עֹשֶׂ֛ה and executed ʿāśâ מִשְׁפָּ֥ט judgment mišpāṭ וּצְדָקָ֖ה and justice ṣĕdāqâ לְכָל among all kōl עַמּֽוֹ׃ his people. ʿam

וְיוֹאָ֥ב And Joab yôʾāb בֶּן the son bēn צְרוּיָ֖ה of Zeruiah ṣĕrûyâ עַל over ʿal הַצָּבָ֑א the host; ṣābāʾ וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֥ט and Jehoshaphat yĕhôšāpāṭ בֶּן the son bēn אֲחִיל֖וּד of Ahilud, ʾăḥîlûd מַזְכִּֽיר׃ recorder. zākar

וְצָד֧וֹק And Zadok ṣādôq בֶּן the son bēn אֲחִיט֛וּב of Ahitub, ʾăḥîṭûb וַֽאֲבִימֶ֥לֶךְ and Abimelech ʾăbîmelek בֶּן the son bēn אֶבְיָתָ֖ר of Abiathar, ʾebyātār כֹּֽהֲנִ֑ים the priests; kōhēn וְשַׁוְשָׁ֖א and Shavsha šawšāʾ סוֹפֵֽר׃ was scribe; sāpar

וּבְנָיָ֙הוּ֙ And Benaiah bĕnāyâ בֶּן the son bēn יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע of Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ עַל over ʿal הַכְּרֵתִ֖י the Cherethites kĕrētî וְהַפְּלֵתִ֑י and the Pelethites; pĕlētî וּבְנֵֽי and the sons bēn דָוִ֥יד of David dāwid הָרִֽאשֹׁנִ֖ים chief riʾšôn לְיַ֥ד about yād הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek
