பிரசங்கி 6:2
அதாவது, ஒருவனுக்குத் தேவன் செல்வத்தையும் சம்பத்தையும் கனத்தையும் கொடுக்கிறார்; அவன் என்ன இச்சித்தாலும் அதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் குறைவில்லாமல் கிடைக்கும்; ஆனாலும் அவைகளை அநுபவிக்கும் சக்தியைத் தேவன் அவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கவில்லை; அந்நிய மனுஷன் அதை அநுபவிக்கிறான்; இதுவும் மாயையும் கொடிய நோயுமானது.

அதாவது, ஒருவனுக்கு தேவன் செல்வத்தையும், பொருட்களையும், மதிப்பையும் கொடுக்கிறார்; அவன் என்ன ஆசைப்பட்டாலும் அதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் குறைவில்லாமல் கிடைக்கும்; ஆனாலும் அவைகளை அனுபவிக்கும் சக்தியை தேவன் அவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கவில்லை; அந்நிய மனிதன் அதை அனுபவிக்கிறான்; இதுவும் மாயையும், கொடிய நோயுமானது.

ஒருவனுக்கு தேவன் பெருஞ்செல்வத்தையும், சிறப்பையும், சொத்துக்களையும் கொடுக்கிறார். ஒருவன் தனக்குத் தேவையானவற்றையும் தான் விரும்புகின்றவற்றையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்கிறான். ஆனால் தேவன் அவனை அவற்றை அனுபவிக்கும்படி விடுவதில்லை. எவனோ ஒரு அந்நியன் வந்து அவற்றை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போகிறான். இது மிகவும் மோசமான அர்த்தமற்ற ஒன்றாகும்.

கடவுள் ஒருவருக்குச் செல்வத்தையும் நல்வாழ்வையும் மேன்மையையும் கொடுக்கிறார். ஆம், அவர் விரும்புவதெல்லாம் அவருக்குக் கிடைக்கின்றன. ஆனால் அவற்றைத் துய்க்கவோ கடவுள் அவருக்கு வாய்ப்பளிப்பதில்லை. அடுத்தவர் ஒருவர் அவற்றைத் துய்த்து மகிழ்கிறார். இங்கே பயனின்மையும் கடுந்துயரமும் காணப்படுகின்றன.

to whom אֲשֶׁ֣ר ʾăšer uh-SHER
hath given יִתֶּן nātan na-TAHN
ל֣וֹ
God הָאֱלֹהִ֡ים ʾĕlōhîm ay-loh-HEEM
riches, עֹשֶׁר֩ ʿōšer oh-SHER
wealth, וּנְכָסִ֨ים nekes neh-HES
and honour, וְכָב֜וֹד kābôd ka-VODE
nothing וְֽאֵינֶ֨נּוּ ʾayin ah-YEEN
so that he wanteth חָסֵ֥ר ḥāsēr ha-SARE
for his soul לְנַפְשׁ֣וֹ׀ nepeš neh-FESH
of all מִכֹּ֣ל kōl kole
that אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer uh-SHER
he desireth, יִתְאַוֶּ֗ה ʾāwâ ah-VA
וְלֹֽא lōʾ loh
