  1. דִּבְרֵ֥י The words dābār נְחֶמְיָ֖ה of Nehemiah nĕḥemyâ בֶּן the son bēn חֲכַלְיָ֑ה of Hachaliah. ḥăkalyâ וַיְהִ֤י And it came to pass hāyâ בְחֹֽדֶשׁ in the month ḥōdeš כִּסְלֵו֙ Chisleu, kislēw שְׁנַ֣ת year, šāne עֶשְׂרִ֔ים in the twentieth ʿeśrîm וַֽאֲנִ֥י as I ʾănî הָיִ֖יתִי was hāyâ בְּשׁוּשַׁ֥ן in Shushan šûšan הַבִּירָֽה׃ the palace, bîrâ
  2. וַיָּבֹ֨א came, bôʾ חֲנָ֜נִי That Hanani, ḥănānî אֶחָ֧ד one ʾeḥād מֵֽאַחַ֛י of my brethren, ʾāḥ ה֥וּא he hûʾ וַֽאֲנָשִׁ֖ים and men ʾîš מִֽיהוּדָ֑ה of Judah; yĕhûdâ וָֽאֶשְׁאָלֵ֞ם and I asked šāʾal עַל them concerning ʿal הַיְּהוּדִ֧ים the Jews yĕhûdî הַפְּלֵיטָ֛ה that had escaped, pĕlêṭâ אֲשֶֽׁר which ʾăšer נִשְׁאֲר֥וּ were left šāʾar מִן of min הַשֶּׁ֖בִי the captivity, šĕbî וְעַל and concerning ʿal יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim
  3. וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֮ And they said ʾāmar לִי֒ הַֽנִּשְׁאָרִ֞ים unto me, The remnant šāʾar אֲשֶֽׁר that ʾăšer נִשְׁאֲר֤וּ are left šāʾar מִן of min הַשְּׁבִי֙ the captivity šĕbî שָׁ֣ם there šām בַּמְּדִינָ֔ה in the province mĕdînâ בְּרָעָ֥ה affliction raʿ גְדֹלָ֖ה in great gādôl וּבְחֶרְפָּ֑ה and reproach: ḥerpâ וְחוֹמַ֤ת the wall ḥômâ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ of Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim מְפֹרָ֔צֶת also broken down, pāraṣ וּשְׁעָרֶ֖יהָ and the gates šaʿar נִצְּת֥וּ thereof are burned yāṣat בָאֵֽשׁ׃ with fire. ʾēš
  4. וַיְהִ֞י And it came to pass, hāyâ כְּשָׁמְעִ֣י׀ when I heard šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt הַדְּבָרִ֣ים words, dābār הָאֵ֗לֶּה these ʾēlle יָשַׁ֙בְתִּי֙ that I sat down yāšab וָֽאֶבְכֶּ֔ה and wept, bākâ וָֽאֶתְאַבְּלָ֖ה and mourned ʾābal יָמִ֑ים days, yôm וָֽאֱהִ֥י hāyâ צָם֙ and fasted, ṣûm וּמִתְפַּלֵּ֔ל and prayed pālal לִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm אֱלֹהֵ֥י the God ʾĕlōhîm הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ of heaven, šāmayim
  5. וָֽאֹמַ֗ר And said, ʾāmar אָֽנָּ֤א I beseech ʾonnāʾ יְהוָה֙ thee, O Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵ֣י God ʾĕlōhîm הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם of heaven, šāmayim הָאֵ֥ל God, ʾēl הַגָּד֖וֹל the great gādôl וְהַנּוֹרָ֑א and terrible yārēʾ שֹׁמֵ֤ר that keepeth šāmar הַבְּרִית֙ covenant bĕrît וָחֶ֔סֶד and mercy ḥēsēd לְאֹֽהֲבָ֖יו for them that love ʾāhab וּלְשֹֽׁמְרֵ֥י him and observe šāmar מִצְוֹתָֽיו׃ his commandments: miṣwâ
  6. תְּהִ֣י be hāyâ נָ֣א now nāʾ אָזְנְךָֽ Let thine ear ʾōzen קַשֶּׁ֣בֶת attentive, qaššāb וְֽעֵינֶ֪יךָ and thine eyes ʿayin פְתֻוּח֟וֹת open, pātaḥ לִשְׁמֹ֣עַ that thou mayest hear šāmaʿ אֶל ʾēl תְּפִלַּ֣ת the prayer tĕpillâ עַבְדְּךָ֡ of thy servant, ʿebed אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִי֩ I ʾānōkî מִתְפַּלֵּ֨ל pray pālal לְפָנֶ֤יךָ before pānîm הַיּוֹם֙ thee now, yôm יוֹמָ֣ם day yômām וָלַ֔יְלָה and night, layil עַל for ʿal בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ thy servants, ʿebed וּמִתְוַדֶּ֗ה and confess yādâ עַל ʿal חַטֹּ֤אות the sins ḥaṭṭāʾâ בְּנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer חָטָ֣אנוּ we have sinned ḥāṭāʾ לָ֔ךְ וַֽאֲנִ֥י against thee: both I ʾănî וּבֵית house bayit אָבִ֖י and my father's ʾāb חָטָֽאנוּ׃ have sinned. ḥāṭāʾ
  7. חֲבֹ֖ל We have dealt very ḥābal חָבַ֣לְנוּ corruptly ḥābal לָ֑ךְ וְלֹֽא against thee, and have not lōʾ שָׁמַ֣רְנוּ kept šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַמִּצְוֹ֗ת the commandments, miṣwâ וְאֶת ʾēt הַֽחֻקִּים֙ nor the statutes, ḥōq וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים nor the judgments, mišpāṭ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוִּ֖יתָ thou commandedst ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses. mōše עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ thy servant ʿebed
  8. זְכָר Remember, zākar נָא֙ I beseech nāʾ אֶת thee, ʾēt הַדָּבָ֔ר the word dābār אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer צִוִּ֛יתָ thou commandedst ṣāwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses, mōše עַבְדְּךָ֖ thy servant ʿebed לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar אַתֶּ֣ם ye ʾattâ תִּמְעָ֔לוּ transgress, māʿal אֲנִ֕י I ʾănî אָפִ֥יץ will scatter you abroad pûṣ אֶתְכֶ֖ם ʾēt בָּֽעַמִּֽים׃ among the nations: ʿam
  9. וְשַׁבְתֶּ֣ם But ye turn šûb אֵלַ֔י unto ʾēl וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם֙ me, and keep šāmar מִצְוֹתַ֔י my commandments, miṣwâ וַֽעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם and do ʿāśâ אֹתָ֑ם ʾēt אִם them; though ʾim יִֽהְיֶ֨ה there were hāyâ נִֽדַּחֲכֶ֜ם of you cast out nādaḥ בִּקְצֵ֤ה unto the uttermost part qāṣe הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ of the heaven, šāmayim מִשָּׁ֣ם them from thence, šām אֲקַבְּצֵ֔ם will I gather qābaṣ וַהֲבִֽואֹתִים֙ and will bring bôʾ אֶל them unto ʾēl הַמָּק֔וֹם the place māqôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer בָּחַ֔רְתִּי I have chosen bāḥar לְשַׁכֵּ֥ן to set šākan אֶת ʾēt שְׁמִ֖י my name šēm שָֽׁם׃ there. šām
  10. וְהֵ֥ם Now these hēm עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ thy servants ʿebed וְעַמֶּ֑ךָ and thy people, ʿam אֲשֶׁ֤ר whom ʾăšer פָּדִ֙יתָ֙ thou hast redeemed pādâ בְּכֹֽחֲךָ֣ power, kōaḥ הַגָּד֔וֹל by thy great gādôl וּבְיָֽדְךָ֖ hand. yād הַֽחֲזָקָֽה׃ and by thy strong ḥāzāq
  11. אָנָּ֣א I beseech ʾonnāʾ אֲדֹנָ֗י O Lord, ʾădōnāy תְּהִ֣י be hāyâ נָ֣א thee, let now nāʾ אָזְנְךָֽ thine ear ʾōzen קַ֠שֶּׁבֶת attentive qaššāb אֶל to ʾēl תְּפִלַּ֨ת the prayer tĕpillâ עַבְדְּךָ֜ of thy servant, ʿebed וְאֶל and to ʾēl תְּפִלַּ֣ת the prayer tĕpillâ עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ of thy servants, ʿebed הַֽחֲפֵצִים֙ who desire ḥāpēṣ לְיִרְאָ֣ה to fear yārēʾ אֶת ʾēt שְׁמֶ֔ךָ thy name: šēm וְהַצְלִֽיחָה and prosper, ṣālaḥ נָּ֤א I pray nāʾ לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ thee, thy servant ʿebed הַיּ֔וֹם this day, yôm וּתְנֵ֣הוּ and grant nātan לְרַֽחֲמִ֔ים him mercy raḥam לִפְנֵ֖י in the sight pānîm הָאִ֣ישׁ man. ʾîš הַזֶּ֑ה of this ze וַֽאֲנִ֛י For I ʾănî הָיִ֥יתִי was hāyâ מַשְׁקֶ֖ה cupbearer. mašqe לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek
