கிலெயாத்தின் மனைவியும் அவனுக்குக் குமாரர்களைப் பெற்றாள்; அவன் மனைவி பெற்ற குமாரர் பெரியவர்களான பின்பு, அவர்கள் யெப்தாவை நோக்கி: உனக்கு எங்கள் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலே சுதந்தரம் இல்லை; நீ அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயின் மகன் என்று சொல்லி அவனைத் துரத்தினார்கள்.

கிலேயாத்தின் மனைவிக்குப் பல மகன்கள் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் வளர்ந்தபோது யெப்தாவை விரும்பவில்லை. அவனது சொந்த ஊரைவிட்டுச் செல்லுமாறு அம்மகன்கள் யெப்தாவைக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தினார்கள். அவர்கள் அவனை நோக்கி, “நீ நம் தந்தையின் சொத்தில் எதையும் பெறமாட்டாய். நீ வேறொரு பெண்ணின் மகன்” என்றனர்.
