  1. וַ֭יַּעַן Then answered ʿānâ בִּלְדַּ֥ד Bildad bildad הַשּׁוּחִ֗י the Shuhite, šûḥî וַיֹאמַֽר׃ and said, ʾāmar
  2. עַד long ʿad אָ֥ן How ʾān תְּמַלֶּל wilt thou speak mālal אֵ֑לֶּה these ʾēlle וְר֥וּחַ wind? rûaḥ כַּ֝בִּ֗יר a strong kabbîr אִמְרֵי and the words ʾēmer פִֽיךָ׃ of thy mouth pe
  3. הַ֭אֵל Doth God ʾēl יְעַוֵּ֣ת pervert ʿāwat מִשְׁפָּ֑ט judgment? mišpāṭ וְאִם or ʾim שַׁ֝דַּ֗י doth the Almighty šadday יְעַוֵּֽת pervert ʿāwat צֶֽדֶק׃ justice? ṣedeq
  4. אִם If ʾim בָּנֶ֥יךָ thy children bēn חָֽטְאוּ have sinned ḥāṭāʾ ל֑וֹ וַֽ֝יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗ם against him, and he have cast them away šālaḥ בְּיַד for yād פִּשְׁעָֽם׃ their transgression; pešaʿ
  5. אִם If ʾim אַ֭תָּה thou ʾattâ תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר wouldest seek šāḥar אֶל unto ʾēl אֵ֑ל God ʾēl וְאֶל to ʾēl שַׁ֝דַּ֗י the Almighty; šadday תִּתְחַנָּֽן׃ betimes, and make thy supplication ḥānan
  6. אִם If ʾim זַ֥ךְ pure zak וְיָשָׁ֗ר and upright; yāšār אָ֥תָּה thou ʾattâ כִּֽי surely עַ֭תָּה now ʿattâ יָעִ֣יר he would awake ʿûr עָלֶ֑יךָ for ʿal וְ֝שִׁלַּ֗ם prosperous. šālam נְוַ֣ת thee, and make the habitation nāwe צִדְקֶֽךָ׃ of thy righteousness ṣedeq
  7. וְהָיָ֣ה was hāyâ רֵאשִׁיתְךָ֣ Though thy beginning rēʾšît מִצְעָ֑ר small, miṣʿār וְ֝אַחֲרִֽיתְךָ֗ yet thy latter end ʾaḥărît יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה increase. śāgâ מְאֹֽד׃ should greatly mĕʾōd
  8. כִּֽי For שְׁאַל inquire, šāʾal נָ֭א I pray thee, nāʾ לְדֹ֣ר age, dôr רִישׁ֑וֹן of the former riʾšôn וְ֝כוֹנֵ֗ן and prepare kûn לְחֵ֣קֶר thyself to the search ḥēqer אֲבוֹתָֽם׃ of their fathers: ʾāb
  9. כִּֽי (For תְמ֣וֹל yesterday, tĕmôl אֲ֭נַחְנוּ we ʾănaḥnû וְלֹ֣א nothing, lōʾ נֵדָ֑ע and know yādaʿ כִּ֤י because צֵ֖ל a shadow:) ṣēl יָמֵ֣ינוּ our days yôm עֲלֵי upon ʿal אָֽרֶץ׃ earth ʾereṣ
  10. הֲלֹא Shall not lōʾ הֵ֣ם they hēm י֭וֹרוּךָ teach yārâ יֹ֣אמְרוּ thee, tell ʾāmar לָ֑ךְ וּ֝מִלִּבָּ֗ם out of their heart? lēb יוֹצִ֥אוּ thee, and utter yāṣāʾ מִלִּֽים׃ words millâ
  11. הֲיִֽגְאֶה grow up gāʾâ גֹּ֭מֶא Can the rush gōmeʾ בְּלֹ֣א without lōʾ בִצָּ֑ה mire? biṣṣâ יִשְׂגֶּה grow śāgâ אָ֥חוּ can the flag ʾāḥû בְלִי without bĕlî מָֽיִם׃ water? mayim
  12. עֹדֶ֣נּוּ Whilst it yet ʿôd בְ֭אִבּוֹ in his greenness, ʾēb לֹ֣א not lōʾ יִקָּטֵ֑ף cut down, qāṭap וְלִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm כָל any kōl חָצִ֣יר herb. ḥāṣîr יִיבָֽשׁ׃ it withereth yābēš
  13. כֵּ֗ן So kēn אָ֭רְחוֹת the paths ʾōraḥ כָּל of all kōl שֹׁ֣כְחֵי that forget šākaḥ אֵ֑ל God; ʾēl וְתִקְוַ֖ת hope tiqwâ חָנֵ֣ף and the hypocrite's ḥānēp תֹּאבֵֽד׃ shall perish: ʾābad
  14. אֲשֶׁר Whose ʾăšer יָק֥וֹט shall be cut off, qāṭaṭ כִּסְל֑וֹ hope kesel וּבֵ֥ית web. bayit עַ֝כָּבִ֗ישׁ a spider's ʿakkābîš מִבְטַחֽוֹ׃ and whose trust mibṭāḥ
  15. יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן He shall lean šāʿan עַל upon ʿal בֵּ֭יתוֹ his house, bayit וְלֹ֣א but it shall not lōʾ יַעֲמֹ֑ד stand: ʿāmad יַחֲזִ֥יק he shall hold ḥāzaq בּ֝֗וֹ וְלֹ֣א it fast, but it shall not lōʾ יָקֽוּם׃ endure. qûm
  16. רָטֹ֣ב green rāṭōb ה֭וּא He hûʾ לִפְנֵי before pānîm שָׁ֑מֶשׁ the sun, šemeš וְעַ֥ל in ʿal גַּ֝נָּת֗וֹ his garden. gannâ יֹֽנַקְתּ֥וֹ and his branch yôneqet תֵצֵֽא׃ shooteth forth yāṣāʾ
  17. עַל ʿal גַּ֭ל the heap, gal שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣יו His roots šereš יְסֻבָּ֑כוּ are wrapped about sābak בֵּ֖ית the place bayit אֲבָנִ֣ים of stones. ʾeben יֶחֱזֶֽה׃ seeth ḥāzâ
  18. אִם If ʾim יְבַלְּעֶ֥נּוּ he destroy bālaʿ מִמְּקֹמ֑וֹ him from his place, māqôm וְכִ֥חֶשׁ then shall deny kāḥaš בּ֝֗וֹ לֹ֣א him, I have not lōʾ רְאִיתִֽיךָ׃ seen thee. rāʾâ
  19. הֶן Behold, hēn ה֭וּא this hûʾ מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ the joy māśôś דַּרְכּ֑וֹ of his way, derek וּ֝מֵעָפָ֗ר and out of the earth ʿāpār אַחֵ֥ר shall others ʾaḥēr יִצְמָֽחוּ׃ grow. ṣāmaḥ
  20. הֶן Behold, hēn אֵ֭ל God ʾēl לֹ֣א will not lōʾ יִמְאַס cast away māʾas תָּ֑ם a perfect tām וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יַ֝חֲזִ֗יק will he help ḥāzaq בְּיַד yād מְרֵעִֽים׃ the evil doers: rāʿaʿ
  21. עַד Till ʿad יְמַלֵּ֣ה he fill mālēʾ שְׂח֣וֹק with laughing, śĕḥôq פִּ֑יךָ thy mouth pe וּשְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ and thy lips śāpâ תְרוּעָֽה׃ with rejoicing. tĕrûʿâ
  22. שֹׂנְאֶ֥יךָ They that hate śānēʾ יִלְבְּשׁוּ thee shall be clothed lābaš בֹ֑שֶׁת with shame; bōšet וְאֹ֖הֶל and the dwelling place ʾōhel רְשָׁעִ֣ים of the wicked rāšāʿ אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ shall come to nought. ʾayin
