  1. וְֽאוּלָ֗ם Wherefore, ʾûlām שְׁמַֽע hear šāmaʿ נָ֣א I pray thee, nāʾ אִיּ֣וֹב Job, ʾiyyôb מִלָּ֑י my speeches, millâ וְֽכָל to all kōl דְּבָרַ֥י my words. dābār הַאֲזִֽינָה׃ and hearken ʾāzan
  2. הִנֵּה Behold, hinnē נָ֭א now nāʾ פָּתַ֣חְתִּי I have opened pātaḥ פִ֑י my mouth, pe דִּבְּרָ֖ה hath spoken dābar לְשׁוֹנִ֣י my tongue lāšôn בְחִכִּֽי׃ in my mouth. ḥēk
  3. יֹֽשֶׁר the uprightness yōšer לִבִּ֥י of my heart: lēb אֲמָרָ֑י My words ʾēmer וְדַ֥עַת knowledge daʿat שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י and my lips śāpâ בָּר֥וּר clearly. bārar מִלֵּֽלוּ׃ shall utter mālal
  4. רֽוּחַ The Spirit rûaḥ אֵ֥ל of God ʾēl עָשָׂ֑תְנִי hath made ʿāśâ וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת me, and the breath nĕšāmâ שַׁדַּ֣י of the Almighty šadday תְּחַיֵּֽנִי׃ hath given me life. ḥāyâ
  5. אִם If ʾim תּוּכַ֥ל thou canst yākōl הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי answer šûb עֶרְכָ֥ה me, set in order ʿārak לְ֝פָנַ֗י before pānîm הִתְיַצָּֽבָה׃ me, stand up. yāṣab
  6. הֵן Behold, hēn אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî כְפִ֣יךָ according to thy wish pe לָאֵ֑ל in God's ʾēl מֵ֝חֹ֗מֶר out of the clay. ḥōmer קֹרַ֥צְתִּי am formed qāraṣ גַם also gam אָֽנִי׃ stead: I ʾănî
  7. הִנֵּ֣ה Behold, hinnē אֵ֭מָתִי my terror ʾêmâ לֹ֣א shall not lōʾ תְבַעֲתֶ֑ךָּ make thee afraid, bāʿat וְ֝אַכְפִּ֗י shall my hand ʾekep עָלֶ֥יךָ upon thee. ʿal לֹא neither lōʾ יִכְבָּֽד׃ be heavy kābad
  8. אַ֭ךְ Surely ʾak אָמַ֣רְתָּ thou hast spoken ʾāmar בְאָזְנָ֑י in mine hearing, ʾōzen וְק֖וֹל the voice qôl מִלִּ֣ין of words, millâ אֶשְׁמָֽע׃ and I have heard šāmaʿ
  9. זַ֥ךְ am clean zak אֲנִ֗י I ʾănî בְּֽלִ֫י without bĕlî פָ֥שַׁע transgression, pešaʿ חַ֥ף innocent; ḥap אָנֹכִ֑י I ʾānōkî וְלֹ֖א neither lōʾ עָוֹ֣ן iniquity in me. ʿāwōn לִֽי׃
  10. הֵ֣ן Behold, hēn תְּ֭נוּאוֹת occasions tĕnûʾâ עָלַ֣י against ʿal יִמְצָ֑א he findeth māṣāʾ יַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי me, he counteth ḥāšab לְאוֹיֵ֣ב me for his enemy, ʾōyēb לֽוֹ׃
  11. יָשֵׂ֣ם He putteth śûm בַּסַּ֣ד in the stocks, sad רַגְלָ֑י my feet regel יִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר he marketh šāmar כָּל all kōl אָרְחֹתָֽי׃ my paths. ʾōraḥ
  12. הֶן Behold, hēn זֹ֣את this zōt לֹא thou art not lōʾ צָדַ֣קְתָּ just: ṣādaq אֶעֱנֶ֑ךָּ I will answer ʿānâ כִּֽי thee, that יִרְבֶּ֥ה is greater rābâ אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ God ʾĕlôah מֵאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ than man. ʾĕnôš
  13. מַ֭דּוּעַ Why maddûaʿ אֵלָ֣יו against ʾēl רִיב֑וֹתָ dost thou strive rîb כִּ֥י him? for כָל of any kōl דְּ֝בָרָ֗יו of his matters. dābār לֹ֣א he giveth not lōʾ יַעֲנֶֽה׃ account ʿānâ
  14. כִּֽי For בְאַחַ֥ת once, ʾeḥād יְדַבֶּר speaketh dābar אֵ֑ל God ʾēl וּ֝בִשְׁתַּ֗יִם yea twice, šĕnayim לֹ֣א it not. lōʾ יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃ perceiveth šûr
  15. בַּחֲל֤וֹם׀ In a dream, ḥălôm חֶזְי֬וֹן in a vision ḥizzāyôn לַ֗יְלָה of the night, layil בִּנְפֹ֣ל falleth nāpal תַּ֭רְדֵּמָה when deep sleep tardēmâ עַל upon ʿal אֲנָשִׁ֑ים men, ʾîš בִּ֝תְנוּמ֗וֹת in slumberings tĕnûmâ עֲלֵ֣י upon ʿal מִשְׁכָּֽב׃ the bed; miškāb
  16. אָ֣ז Then ʾāz יִ֭גְלֶה he openeth gālâ אֹ֣זֶן the ears ʾōzen אֲנָשִׁ֑ים of men, ʾĕnôš וּבְמֹ֖סָרָ֣ם their instruction, mōsār יַחְתֹּֽם׃ and sealeth ḥātam
  17. לְ֭הָסִיר That he may withdraw sûr אָדָ֣ם man ʾādām מַעֲשֶׂ֑ה purpose, maʿăśe וְגֵוָ֖ה pride gēwâ מִגֶּ֣בֶר from man. geber יְכַסֶּֽה׃ and hide kāsâ
  18. יַחְשֹׂ֣ךְ He keepeth back ḥāśak נַ֭פְשׁוֹ his soul nepeš מִנִּי from min שָׁ֑חַת the pit, šaḥat וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ and his life ḥay מֵעֲבֹ֥ר from perishing ʿābar בַּשָּֽׁלַח׃ by the sword. šelaḥ
  19. וְהוּכַ֣ח He is chastened yākaḥ בְּ֭מַכְאוֹב also with pain makʾōb עַל upon ʿal מִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ his bed, miškāb וְר֖יֹב and the multitude rōb עֲצָמָ֣יו of his bones ʿeṣem אֵתָֽן׃ with strong ʾêtān
  20. וְזִֽהֲמַ֣תּוּ abhorreth zāham חַיָּת֣וֹ So that his life ḥay לָ֑חֶם bread, leḥem וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ and his soul nepeš מַאֲכַ֥ל meat. maʾăkāl תַּאֲוָֽה׃ dainty taʾăwâ
  21. יִ֣כֶל is consumed away, kālâ בְּשָׂר֣וֹ His flesh bāśār מֵרֹ֑אִי that it cannot be seen; rŏʾî וְשֻׁפּ֥יּ stick out. šāpâ עַ֝צְמֹתָ֗יו and his bones ʿeṣem לֹ֣א were not lōʾ רֻאּֽוּ׃ seen rāʾâ
  22. וַתִּקְרַ֣ב draweth near qārab לַשַּׁ֣חַת unto the grave, šaḥat נַפְשׁ֑וֹ Yea, his soul nepeš וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ and his life ḥay לַֽמְמִתִֽים׃ to the destroyers. mût
  23. אִם If ʾim יֵ֤שׁ there be yēš עָלָ֨יו׀ with ʿal מַלְאָ֗ךְ a messenger mălʾok מֵלִ֗יץ him, an interpreter, lûṣ אֶחָ֥ד one ʾeḥād מִנִּי among min אָ֑לֶף a thousand, ʾelep לְהַגִּ֖יד to shew nāgad לְאָדָ֣ם unto man ʾādām יָשְׁרֽוֹ׃ his uprightness: yōšer
  24. וַיְחֻנֶּ֗נּוּ Then he is gracious ḥānan וַיֹּ֗אמֶר unto him, and saith, ʾāmar פְּ֭דָעֵהוּ Deliver pādaʿ מֵרֶ֥דֶת him from going down yārad שָׁ֗חַת to the pit: šaḥat מָצָ֥אתִי I have found māṣāʾ כֹֽפֶר׃ a ransom. kōper
  25. רֻֽטֲפַ֣שׁ shall be fresher ruṭăpaš בְּשָׂר֣וֹ His flesh bāśār מִנֹּ֑עַר than a child's: nōʿar יָ֝שׁ֗וּב he shall return šûb לִימֵ֥י to the days yôm עֲלוּמָֽיו׃ of his youth: ʿālûm
  26. יֶעְתַּ֤ר He shall pray ʿātar אֶל unto ʾēl אֱל֨וֹהַּ׀ God, ʾĕlôah וַיִּרְצֵ֗הוּ and he will be favourable rāṣâ וַיַּ֣רְא unto him: and he shall see rāʾâ פָּ֭נָיו his face pānîm בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה with joy: tĕrûʿâ וַיָּ֥שֶׁב for he will render šûb לֶ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ unto man ʾĕnôš צִדְקָתֽוֹ׃ his righteousness. ṣĕdāqâ
  27. יָשֹׁ֤ר׀ He looketh šûr עַל upon ʿal אֲנָשִׁ֗ים men, ʾĕnôš וַיֹּ֗אמֶר and say, ʾāmar חָ֭טָאתִי I have sinned, ḥāṭāʾ וְיָשָׁ֥ר right, yāšār הֶעֱוֵ֗יתִי and perverted ʿāwâ וְלֹא me not; lōʾ שָׁ֥וָה and it profited šāwâ לִֽי׃
  28. פָּדָ֣ה He will deliver pādâ נַ֭פְשׁיֹ his soul nepeš מֵעֲבֹ֣ר from going ʿābar בַּשָּׁ֑חַת into the pit, šaḥat וְ֝חַיָּת֗יֹ and his life ḥay בָּא֥וֹר the light. ʾôr תִּרְאֶֽה׃ shall see rāʾâ
  29. הֶן Lo, hēn כָּל all kōl אֵ֭לֶּה these ʾēlle יִפְעַל worketh pāʿal אֵ֑ל God ʾēl פַּעֲמַ֖יִם oftentimes paʿam שָׁל֣וֹשׁ šālôš עִם with ʿim גָּֽבֶר׃ man, geber
  30. לְהָשִׁ֣יב To bring back šûb נַ֭פְשׁוֹ his soul nepeš מִנִּי from min שָׁ֑חַת the pit, šaḥat לֵ֝א֗וֹר to be enlightened ʾôr בְּא֣וֹר with the light ʾôr הַֽחַיִּים׃ of the living. ḥay
  31. הַקְשֵׁ֖ב Mark well, qāšab אִיּ֥וֹב O Job, ʾiyyôb שְֽׁמַֽע hearken šāmaʿ לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ unto me: hold thy peace, ḥāraš וְאָנֹכִ֥י and I ʾānōkî אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ will speak. dābar
  32. אִם If ʾim יֵשׁ thou hast yēš מִלִּ֥ין any thing to say, millâ הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי answer šûb דַּ֝בֵּ֗ר me: speak, dābar כִּֽי for חָפַ֥צְתִּי I desire ḥāpēṣ צַדְּקֶֽךָּ׃ to justify thee. ṣādaq
  33. אִם If ʾim אַ֭יִן not, ʾayin אַתָּ֥ה ʾattâ שְֽׁמַֽע hearken šāmaʿ לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ unto me: hold thy peace, ḥāraš וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ and I shall teach ʾālap חָכְמָֽה׃ thee wisdom. ḥokmâ
