  1. וַֽיִּשְׁבְּת֡וּ ceased šābat שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת three šālôš הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים men ʾĕnôš הָ֭אֵלֶּה So these ʾēlle מֵעֲנ֣וֹת to answer ʿānâ אֶת ʾēt אִיּ֑וֹב Job, ʾiyyôb כִּ֤י because ה֖וּא he hûʾ צַדִּ֣יק righteous ṣaddîq בְּעֵינָֽיו׃ in his own eyes. ʿayin
  2. וַיִּ֤חַר Then was kindled ḥārâ אַ֨ף׀ the wrath ʾap אֱלִיה֣וּא of Elihu ʾĕlîhû בֶן the son bēn בַּרַכְאֵ֣ל of Barachel bārakʾēl הַבּוּזִי֮ the Buzite, bûzî מִמִּשְׁפַּ֪חַ֫ת of the kindred mišpāḥâ רָ֥ם of Ram: rām בְּ֭אִיּוֹב against Job ʾiyyôb חָרָ֣ה kindled, ḥārâ אַפּ֑וֹ was his wrath ʾap עַֽל because ʿal צַדְּק֥וֹ he justified ṣādaq נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ himself nepeš מֵאֱלֹהִֽים׃ rather than God. ʾĕlōhîm
  3. וּבִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת Also against his three šālôš רֵעָיו֮ friends rēaʿ חָרָ֪ה kindled, ḥārâ אַ֫פּ֥וֹ was his wrath ʾap עַ֤ל because ʿal אֲשֶׁ֣ר ʾăšer לֹא no lōʾ מָצְא֣וּ they had found māṣāʾ מַעֲנֶ֑ה answer, maʿăne וַ֝יַּרְשִׁ֗יעוּ and had condemned rāšaʿ אֶת ʾēt אִיּֽוֹב׃ Job. ʾiyyôb
  4. וֶֽאֱלִיה֗וּ Now Elihu ʾĕlîhû חִכָּ֣ה had waited ḥākâ אֶת till ʾēt אִ֭יּוֹב Job ʾiyyôb בִּדְבָרִ֑ים had spoken, dābār כִּ֤י because זְֽקֵנִים elder zāqēn הֵ֖מָּה they hēm מִמֶּ֣נּוּ than he. min לְיָמִֽים׃ yôm
  5. וַיַּ֤רְא saw rāʾâ אֱלִיה֗וּא When Elihu ʾĕlîhû כִּ֘י that אֵ֤ין no ʾayin מַעֲנֶ֗ה answer maʿăne בְּ֭פִי in the mouth pe שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת of three šālôš הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים men, ʾîš וַיִּ֥חַר was kindled. ḥārâ אַפּֽוֹ׃ then his wrath ʾap
  6. וַיַּ֤עַן׀ answered ʿānâ אֱלִיה֖וּא And Elihu ʾĕlîhû בֶן the son bēn בַּֽרַכְאֵ֥ל of Barachel bārakʾēl הַבּוּזִ֗י the Buzite bûzî וַיֹּ֫אמַ֥ר and said, ʾāmar צָ֘עִ֤יר young, ṣāʿîr אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî לְ֭יָמִים yôm וְאַתֶּ֣ם and ye ʾattâ יְשִׁישִׁ֑ים very old; yāšîš עַל wherefore ʿal כֵּ֖ן kēn זָחַ֥לְתִּי I was afraid, zāḥal וָֽאִירָ֓א׀ and durst yārēʾ מֵחַוֺּ֖ת not shew ḥāwâ דֵּעִ֣י you mine opinion. dēaʿ אֶתְכֶֽם׃ ʾēt
  7. אָ֭מַרְתִּי I said, ʾāmar יָמִ֣ים Days yôm יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ should speak, dābar וְרֹ֥ב and multitude rōb שָׁ֝נִ֗ים of years šāne יֹדִ֥יעוּ should teach yādaʿ חָכְמָֽה׃ wisdom. ḥokmâ
  8. אָ֭כֵן But ʾākēn רֽוּחַ a spirit rûaḥ הִ֣יא hûʾ בֶאֱנ֑וֹשׁ in man: ʾĕnôš וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת and the inspiration nĕšāmâ שַׁדַּ֣י of the Almighty šadday תְּבִינֵֽם׃ giveth them understanding. bîn
  9. לֹֽא are not lōʾ רַבִּ֥ים Great men rab יֶחְכָּ֑מוּ wise: ḥākam וּ֝זְקֵנִ֗ים neither do the aged zāqēn יָבִ֥ינוּ understand bîn מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ judgment. mišpāṭ
  10. לָכֵ֣ן Therefore kēn אָ֭מַרְתִּי I said, ʾāmar שִׁמְעָה Hearken šāmaʿ לִּ֑י אֲחַוֶּ֖ה will shew ḥāwâ דֵּעִ֣י mine opinion. dēaʿ אַף also ʾap אָֽנִי׃ to me; I ʾănî
  11. הֵ֤ן Behold, hēn הוֹחַ֨לְתִּי׀ I waited yāḥal לְֽדִבְרֵיכֶ֗ם for your words; dābār אָ֭זִין I gave ear ʾāzan עַד to ʿad תְּב֥וּנֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם your reasons, tābûn עַֽד whilst ʿad תַּחְקְר֥וּן ye searched out ḥāqar מִלִּֽין׃ what to say. millâ
  12. וְעָֽדֵיכֶ֗ם unto ʿad אֶתְבּ֫וֹנָ֥ן Yea, I attended bîn וְהִנֵּ֤ה you, and, behold, hinnē אֵ֣ין none ʾayin לְאִיּ֣וֹב Job, ʾiyyôb מוֹכִ֑יחַ you that convinced yākaḥ עוֹנֶ֖ה that answered ʿānâ אֲמָרָ֣יו his words: ʾēmer מִכֶּֽם׃ of min
  13. פֶּן Lest pēn תֹּ֣֭אמְרוּ ye should say, ʾāmar מָצָ֣אנוּ We have found out māṣāʾ חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom: ḥokmâ אֵ֖ל God ʾēl יִדְּפֶ֣נּוּ thrusteth him down, nādap לֹא not lōʾ אִֽישׁ׃ man. ʾîš
  14. וְלֹא Now he hath not lōʾ עָרַ֣ךְ directed ʿārak אֵלַ֣י against ʾēl מִלִּ֑ין words millâ וּ֝בְאִמְרֵיכֶ֗ם him with your speeches. ʾēmer לֹ֣א me: neither lōʾ אֲשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃ will I answer šûb
  15. חַ֭תּוּ They were amazed, ḥātat לֹא no lōʾ עָ֣נוּ they answered ʿānâ ע֑וֹד more: ʿôd הֶעְתִּ֖יקוּ they left off ʿātaq מֵהֶ֣ם hēm מִלִּֽים׃ speaking. millâ
  16. וְ֭הוֹחַלְתִּי When I had waited, yāḥal כִּי (for לֹ֣א not, lōʾ יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ they spake dābar כִּ֥י but עָ֝מְד֗וּ stood still, ʿāmad לֹא no lōʾ עָ֥נוּ answered ʿānâ עֽוֹד׃ more;) ʿôd
  17. אַעֲנֶ֣ה will answer ʿānâ אַף also ʾap אֲנִ֣י I ʾănî חֶלְקִ֑י my part, ḥēleq אֲחַוֶּ֖ה will shew ḥāwâ דֵעִ֣י mine opinion. dēaʿ אַף also ʾap אָֽנִי׃ I ʾănî
  18. כִּ֭י For מָלֵ֣תִי I am full mālēʾ מִלִּ֑ים of matter, millâ הֱ֝צִיקַ֗תְנִי me constraineth me. ṣûq ר֣וּחַ the spirit rûaḥ בִּטְנִֽי׃ within beṭen
  19. הִנֵּֽה Behold, hinnē בִטְנִ֗י my belly beṭen כְּיַ֥יִן as wine yayin לֹא hath no lōʾ יִפָּתֵ֑חַ vent; pātaḥ כְּאֹב֥וֹת bottles. ʾôb חֲ֝דָשִׁ֗ים like new ḥādoš יִבָּקֵֽעַ׃ it is ready to burst bāqaʿ
  20. אֲדַבְּרָ֥ה I will speak, dābar וְיִֽרְוַֽח that I may be refreshed: rāwaḥ לִ֑י אֶפְתַּ֖ח I will open pātaḥ שְׂפָתַ֣י my lips śāpâ וְאֶֽעֱנֶֽה׃ and answer. ʿānâ
  21. אַל Let me not, ʾal נָ֭א I pray you, nāʾ אֶשָּׂ֣א accept nāśāʾ פְנֵי person, pānîm אִ֑ישׁ any man's ʾîš וְאֶל unto ʾēl אָ֝דָ֗ם man. ʾādām לֹ֣א neither lōʾ אֲכַנֶּֽה׃ let me give flattering titles kānâ
  22. כִּ֤י For לֹ֣א not lōʾ יָדַ֣עְתִּי I know yādaʿ אֲכַנֶּ֑ה to give flattering titles; kānâ כִּ֝מְעַ֗ט would soon mĕʿaṭ יִשָּׂאֵ֥נִי take me away. nāśāʾ עֹשֵֽׂנִי׃ my maker ʿāśâ
