כִּ֤י Surely kî יֵ֣שׁ there is yēš לַכֶּ֣סֶף for the silver, kesep מוֹצָ֑א a vein môṣāʾ וּ֝מָק֗וֹם and a place māqôm לַזָּהָ֥ב for gold zāhāb יָזֹֽקּוּ׃ they fine zāqaq

בַּ֭רְזֶל Iron barzel מֵעָפָ֣ר out of the earth, ʿāpār יֻקָּ֑ח is taken lāqaḥ וְ֝אֶ֗בֶן the stone. ʾeben יָצ֥וּק molten ṣûq נְחוּשָֽׁה׃ and brass nĕḥûšâ

קֵ֤ץ׀ an end qēṣ שָׂ֤ם He setteth śûm לַחֹ֗שֶׁךְ to darkness, ḥōšek וּֽלְכָל all kōl תַּ֭כְלִית perfection: taklît ה֣וּא hûʾ חוֹקֵ֑ר and searcheth out ḥāqar אֶ֖בֶן the stones ʾeben אֹ֣פֶל of darkness, ʾōpel וְצַלְמָֽוֶת׃ and the shadow of death. ṣalmāwet

פָּ֤רַץ breaketh out pāraṣ נַ֨חַל׀ The flood naḥal מֵֽעִם from ʿim גָּ֗ר the inhabitant; gûr הַֽנִּשְׁכָּחִ֥ים forgotten šākaḥ מִנִּי of min רָ֑גֶל the foot: regel דַּ֖לּוּ they are dried up, dālal מֵאֱנ֣וֹשׁ from men. ʾĕnôš נָֽעוּ׃ they are gone away nûaʿ

אֶ֗רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ מִמֶּ֥נָּה out of min יֵֽצֵא it cometh yāṣāʾ לָ֑חֶם bread: leḥem וְ֝תַחְתֶּ֗יהָ and under taḥat נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ it is turned up hāpak כְּמוֹ as it were kĕmô אֵֽשׁ׃ fire. ʾēš

מְקוֹם of it the place māqôm סַפִּ֥יר of sapphires: sappîr אֲבָנֶ֑יהָ The stones ʾeben וְעַפְרֹ֖ת and it hath dust ʿāpār זָהָ֣ב of gold. zāhāb לֽוֹ׃

נָ֭תִיב a path nātîb לֹֽא which no lōʾ יְדָ֣עוֹ knoweth, yādaʿ עָ֑יִט fowl ʿayiṭ וְלֹ֥א hath not lōʾ שְׁ֝זָפַ֗תּוּ seen: šāzap עֵ֣ין eye ʿayin אַיָּֽה׃ and which the vulture's ʾayyâ

לֹֽא have not lōʾ הִדְרִיכ֥וּהוּ trodden dārak בְנֵי whelps bēn שָׁ֑חַץ The lion's šaḥaṣ לֹֽא it, nor lōʾ עָדָ֖ה passed ʿādâ עָלָ֣יו by it. ʿal שָֽׁחַל׃ the fierce lion šaḥal

בַּֽ֭חַלָּמִישׁ upon the rock; ḥallāmîš שָׁלַ֣ח He putteth forth šālaḥ יָד֑וֹ his hand yād הָפַ֖ךְ he overturneth hāpak מִשֹּׁ֣רֶשׁ by the roots. šereš הָרִֽים׃ the mountains har

בַּ֭צּוּרוֹת among the rocks; ṣûr יְאֹרִ֣ים rivers yĕʾōr בִּקֵּ֑עַ He cutteth out bāqaʿ וְכָל every kōl יְ֝קָ֗ר precious thing. yĕqār רָאֲתָ֥ה seeth rāʾâ עֵינֽוֹ׃ and his eye ʿayin

מִ֭בְּכִי from overflowing; bĕkî נְהָר֣וֹת the floods nāhār חִבֵּ֑שׁ He bindeth ḥābaš וְ֝תַעֲלֻמָ֗הּ and hid taʿălummâ יֹ֣צִא bringeth he forth yāṣāʾ אֽוֹר׃ to light. ʾôr

וְֽ֭הַחָכְמָה shall wisdom ḥokmâ מֵאַ֣יִן But where ʾayin תִּמָּצֵ֑א be found? māṣāʾ וְאֵ֥י and where ʾay זֶ֝ה ze מְק֣וֹם the place māqôm בִּינָֽה׃ of understanding? bînâ

לֹא not lōʾ יָדַ֣ע knoweth yādaʿ אֱנ֣וֹשׁ Man ʾĕnôš עֶרְכָּ֑הּ the price ʿērek וְלֹ֥א thereof; neither lōʾ תִ֝מָּצֵ֗א is it found māṣāʾ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ הַֽחַיִּֽים׃ of the living. ḥay

תְּה֣וֹם The depth tĕhôm אָ֭מַר saith, ʾāmar לֹ֣א not lōʾ בִי הִ֑יא It hûʾ וְיָ֥ם in me: and the sea yām אָ֝מַ֗ר saith, ʾāmar אֵ֣ין not ʾayin עִמָּדִֽי׃ with me. ʿimmād

לֹא It cannot lōʾ יֻתַּ֣ן be gotten nātan סְג֣וֹר for gold, sĕgôr תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ taḥat וְלֹ֥א neither lōʾ יִ֝שָּׁקֵ֗ל be weighed šāqal כֶּ֣סֶף shall silver kesep מְחִירָֽהּ׃ the price thereof. mĕḥîr

לֹֽא It cannot lōʾ תְ֭סֻלֶּה be valued sālâ בְּכֶ֣תֶם with the gold ketem אוֹפִ֑יר of Ophir, ʾôpîr בְּשֹׁ֖הַם onyx, šōham יָקָ֣ר with the precious yāqār וְסַפִּֽיר׃ or the sapphire. sappîr

לֹא cannot lōʾ יַעַרְכֶ֣נָּה equal ʿārak זָ֭הָב The gold zāhāb וּזְכוֹכִ֑ית and the crystal zĕkûkît וּתְמ֖וּרָתָ֣הּ it: and the exchange tĕmûrâ כְּלִי of it jewels kĕlî פָֽז׃ of fine gold. pāz

רָאמ֣וֹת shall be made of coral, rāʾmâ וְ֭גָבִישׁ or of pearls: gābîš לֹ֣א No lōʾ יִזָּכֵ֑ר mention zākar וּמֶ֥שֶׁךְ for the price mešek חָ֝כְמָ֗ה of wisdom ḥokmâ מִפְּנִינִֽים׃ above rubies. pānîn

לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יַ֭עַרְכֶנָּה equal ʿārak פִּטְדַת The topaz piṭdâ כּ֑וּשׁ of Ethiopia kûš בְּכֶ֥תֶם gold. ketem טָ֝ה֗וֹר with pure ṭāhôr לֹ֣א it, neither lōʾ תְסֻלֶּֽה׃ shall it be valued sālâ

וְֽ֭הַחָכְמָה wisdom? ḥokmâ מֵאַ֣יִן Whence ʾayin תָּב֑וֹא then cometh bôʾ וְאֵ֥י and where ʾay זֶ֝֗ה ze מְק֣וֹם the place māqôm בִּינָֽה׃ of understanding? bînâ

וְֽ֭נֶעֶלְמָה Seeing it is hid ʿālam מֵעֵינֵ֣י from the eyes ʿayin כָל of all kōl חָ֑י living, ḥay וּמֵע֖וֹף from the fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם of the air. šāmayim נִסְתָּֽרָה׃ and kept close sātar

אֲבַדּ֣וֹן Destruction ʾăbaddôn וָ֭מָוֶת and death māwet אָ֣מְר֑וּ say, ʾāmar בְּ֝אָזְנֵ֗ינוּ thereof with our ears. ʾōzen שָׁמַ֥עְנוּ We have heard šāmaʿ שִׁמְעָֽהּ׃ the fame šēmaʿ

אֱ֭לֹהִים God ʾĕlōhîm הֵבִ֣ין understandeth bîn דַּרְכָּ֑הּ the way derek וְ֝ה֗וּא thereof, and he hûʾ יָדַ֥ע knoweth yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt מְקוֹמָֽהּ׃ the place thereof. māqôm

כִּי For kî ה֭וּא he hûʾ לִקְצוֹת to the ends qāṣâ הָאָ֣רֶץ of the earth, ʾereṣ יַבִּ֑יט looketh nābaṭ תַּ֖חַת under taḥat כָּל the whole kōl הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם heaven; šāmayim יִרְאֶֽה׃ seeth rāʾâ

לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת To make ʿāśâ לָר֣וּחַ for the winds; rûaḥ מִשְׁקָ֑ל the weight mišqāl וּ֝מַ֗יִם the waters mayim תִּכֵּ֥ן and he weigheth tākan בְּמִדָּֽה׃ by measure. middâ

בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ When he made ʿāśâ לַמָּטָ֣ר for the rain, māṭar חֹ֑ק a decree ḥōq וְ֝דֶ֗רֶךְ and a way derek לַחֲזִ֥יז for the lightning ḥăzîz קֹלֽוֹת׃ of the thunder: qôl

אָ֣ז Then ʾāz רָ֭אָהּ did he see rāʾâ וַֽיְסַפְּרָ֑הּ it, and declare sāpar הֱ֝כִינָ֗הּ it; he prepared kûn וְגַם it, yea, gam חֲקָרָֽהּ׃ and searched it out. ḥāqar

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר׀ he said, ʾāmar לָֽאָדָ֗ם And unto man ʾādām הֵ֤ן Behold, hēn יִרְאַ֣ת the fear yirʾâ אֲ֭דֹנָי of the Lord, ʾădōnāy הִ֣יא that hûʾ חָכְמָ֑ה wisdom; ḥokmâ וְס֖וּר and to depart sûr מֵרָ֣ע from evil raʿ בִּינָֽה׃ understanding. bînâ
