அதற்குச் செருபாபேலும், யெசுவாவும், இஸ்ரவேலில் மற்றுமுள்ள தலைவரான பிதாக்களும் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எங்கள் தேவனுக்கு ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டுகிறதற்கு உங்களுக்கும் எங்களுக்கும் சம்பந்தமில்லை; பெர்சியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கோரேஸ் ராஜா எங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடி, நாங்களே இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு அதைக் கட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

ஆனால், செருபாபேல், யெசுவா, மற்றும் மற்ற குடும்பத் தலைவர்கள், “இல்லை, எங்கள் தேவனுக்கு ஆலயம் கட்ட உங்களால் உதவ முடியாது. நாங்கள் மட்டுமே கர்த்தருக்கு ஆலயம் கட்ட முடியும். அவர் இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவன். இதனையே, பெர்சியாவின் அரசனான கோரேசு எங்களுக்கு கட்டளையிட்டது” என்றனர்.
