וַיִּגַּע֙ was come, nāgaʿ הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month ḥōdeš הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י And when the seventh šĕbîʿî וּבְנֵ֥י and the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בֶּֽעָרִ֑ים in the cities, ʿîr וַיֵּאָֽסְפ֥וּ gathered themselves together ʾāsap הָעָ֛ם the people ʿam כְּאִ֥ישׁ man ʾîš אֶחָ֖ד as one ʾeḥād אֶל to ʾēl יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem. yĕrûšālaim

וַיָּקָם֩ Then stood up qûm יֵשׁ֨וּעַ Jeshua yēšûaʿ בֶּן the son bēn יֽוֹצָדָ֜ק of Jozadak, yôṣādāq וְאֶחָ֣יו and his brethren ʾāḥ הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֗ים the priests, kōhēn וּזְרֻבָּבֶ֤ל and Zerubbabel zĕrubbābel בֶּן the son bēn שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל֙ of Shealtiel, šĕʾaltîʾēl וְאֶחָ֔יו and his brethren, ʾāḥ וַיִּבְנ֕וּ and builded bānâ אֶת ʾēt מִזְבַּ֖ח the altar mizbēaḥ אֱלֹהֵ֣י of the God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לְהַֽעֲל֤וֹת to offer ʿālâ עָלָיו֙ thereon, ʿal עֹל֔וֹת burnt offerings ʿōlâ כַּכָּת֕וּב as written kātab בְּתוֹרַ֖ת in the law tôrâ מֹשֶׁ֥ה of Moses mōše אִישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God. ʾĕlōhîm

וַיָּכִ֤ינוּ And they set kûn הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ the altar mizbēaḥ עַל upon ʿal מְכ֣וֹנֹתָ֔יו his bases; mĕkônâ כִּ֚י for kî בְּאֵימָ֣ה fear ʾêmâ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם upon ʿal מֵֽעַמֵּ֖י them because of the people ʿam הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת of those countries: ʾereṣ וַיַּעֲלּ֨ and they offered ʿālâ עָלָ֤יו thereon ʿal עֹלוֹת֙ burnt offerings ʿōlâ לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord, yĕhōwâ עֹל֖וֹת burnt offerings ʿōlâ לַבֹּ֥קֶר morning bōqer וְלָעָֽרֶב׃ and evening. ʿereb

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֛וּ They kept ʿāśâ אֶת also ʾēt חַ֥ג the feast ḥag הַסֻּכּ֖וֹת of tabernacles, sukkâ כַּכָּת֑וּב as written, kātab וְעֹלַ֨ת burnt offerings ʿōlâ י֤וֹם and the daily yôm בְּיוֹם֙ yôm בְּמִסְפָּ֔ר by number, mispār כְּמִשְׁפַּ֖ט according to the custom, mišpāṭ דְּבַר as the duty dābār י֥וֹם of every day yôm בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ required; yôm

וְאַחֲרֵיכֵ֞ן And afterward ʾaḥar עֹלַ֤ת burnt offering, ʿōlâ תָּמִיד֙ the continual tāmîd וְלֶ֣חֳדָשִׁ֔ים both of the new moons, ḥōdeš וּלְכָל and of all kōl מֽוֹעֲדֵ֥י the set feasts môʿēd יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ הַמְקֻדָּשִׁ֑ים that were consecrated, qādaš וּלְכֹ֛ל and of every one kōl מִתְנַדֵּ֥ב that willingly offered nādab נְדָבָ֖ה a freewill offering nĕdābâ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ unto the Lord. yĕhōwâ

מִיּ֤וֹם day yôm אֶחָד֙ From the first ʾeḥād לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month ḥōdeš הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י of the seventh šĕbîʿî הֵחֵ֕לּוּ began ḥālal לְהַֽעֲל֥וֹת they to offer ʿālâ עֹל֖וֹת burnt offerings ʿōlâ לַֽיהוָ֑ה unto the Lord. yĕhōwâ וְהֵיכַ֥ל of the temple hêkāl יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ לֹ֥א was not lōʾ יֻסָּֽד׃ But the foundation laid. yāsad

וַיִּ֨תְּנוּ They gave nātan כֶ֔סֶף money kesep לַחֹֽצְבִ֖ים also unto the masons, ḥāṣab וְלֶחָֽרָשִׁ֑ים and to the carpenters; ḥāroš וּמַֽאֲכָ֨ל and meat, maʾăkāl וּמִשְׁתֶּ֜ה and drink, mište וָשֶׁ֗מֶן and oil, šemen לַצִּֽדֹנִים֙ unto them of Zidon, ṣîdōnî וְלַצֹּרִ֔ים and to them of Tyre, ṣōrî לְהָבִיא֩ to bring bôʾ עֲצֵ֨י trees ʿēṣ אֲרָזִ֤ים cedar ʾerez מִן from min הַלְּבָנוֹן֙ Lebanon lĕbānôn אֶל to ʾēl יָ֣ם the sea yām יָפ֔וֹא of Joppa, yāpô כְּרִשְׁי֛וֹן according to the grant rišyôn כּ֥וֹרֶשׁ that they had of Cyrus kôreš מֶֽלֶךְ king melek פָּרַ֖ס of Persia. pāras עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ ʿal

וּבַשָּׁנָ֣ה year šāne הַשֵּׁנִ֗ית Now in the second šēnî לְבוֹאָ֞ם of their coming bôʾ אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּ֤ית the house bayit הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ of God ʾĕlōhîm לִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם at Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim בַּחֹ֖דֶשׁ month, ḥōdeš הַשֵּׁנִ֑י in the second šēnî הֵחֵ֡לּוּ began ḥālal זְרֻבָּבֶ֣ל Zerubbabel zĕrubbābel בֶּן the son bēn שְׁ֠אַלְתִּיאֵל of Shealtiel, šĕʾaltîʾēl וְיֵשׁ֨וּעַ and Jeshua yēšûaʿ בֶּן the son bēn יֽוֹצָדָ֜ק of Jozadak, yôṣādāq וּשְׁאָ֥ר and the remnant šĕʾār אֲחֵיהֶ֣ם׀ of their brethren ʾāḥ הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֣ים the priests kōhēn וְהַלְוִיִּ֗ם and the Levites, lēwiyyî וְכָל and all kōl הַבָּאִים֙ they that were come out bôʾ מֵֽהַשְּׁבִ֣י of the captivity šĕbî יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם unto Jerusalem; yĕrûšālaim וַיַּֽעֲמִ֣ידוּ and appointed ʿāmad אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֗ם the Levites, lēwiyyî מִבֶּ֨ן old bēn עֶשְׂרִ֤ים from twenty ʿeśrîm שָׁנָה֙ years šāne וָמַ֔עְלָה and upward, maʿal לְנַצֵּ֖חַ to set forward nāṣaḥ עַל ʿal מְלֶ֥אכֶת the work mĕlāʾkâ בֵּית of the house bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיַּֽעֲמֹ֣ד Then stood ʿāmad יֵשׁ֡וּעַ Jeshua yēšûaʿ בָּנָ֣יו his sons bēn וְ֠אֶחָיו and his brethren, ʾāḥ קַדְמִיאֵ֨ל Kadmiel qadmîʾēl וּבָנָ֤יו and his sons, bēn בְּנֵֽי the sons bēn יְהוּדָה֙ of Judah, yĕhûdâ כְּאֶחָ֔ד together, ʾeḥād לְנַצֵּ֛חַ to set forward nāṣaḥ עַל ʿal עֹשֵׂ֥ה the workmen ʿāśâ הַמְּלָאכָ֖ה mĕlāʾkâ בְּבֵ֣ית in the house bayit הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים of God: ʾĕlōhîm בְּנֵי֙ the sons bēn חֵֽנָדָ֔ד of Henadad, ḥēnādād בְּנֵיהֶ֥ם their sons bēn וַֽאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם and their brethren ʾāḥ הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ the Levites. lēwiyyî

וְיִסְּד֥וּ laid the foundation yāsad הַבֹּנִ֖ים And when the builders bānâ אֶת of ʾēt הֵיכַ֣ל the temple hêkāl יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיַּֽעֲמִידוּ֩ they set ʿāmad הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֨ים the priests kōhēn מְלֻבָּשִׁ֜ים in their apparel lābaš בַּחֲצֹֽצְר֗וֹת with trumpets, ḥăṣōṣĕrâ וְהַלְוִיִּ֤ם and the Levites lēwiyyî בְּנֵֽי the sons bēn אָסָף֙ of Asaph ʾāsāp בַּֽמְצִלְתַּ֔יִם with cymbals, mĕṣēlet לְהַלֵּל֙ to praise hālal אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ עַל after ʿal יְדֵ֖י the ordinance yād דָּוִ֥יד of David dāwid מֶֽלֶךְ king melek יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַֽ֠יַּעֲנוּ And they sang together by course ʿānâ בְּהַלֵּ֨ל in praising hālal וּבְהוֹדֹ֤ת and giving thanks yādâ לַֽיהוָה֙ unto the Lord; yĕhōwâ כִּ֣י because kî ט֔וֹב good, ṭôb כִּֽי for kî לְעוֹלָ֥ם for ever ʿôlām חַסְדּ֖וֹ his mercy ḥēsēd עַל toward ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel. yiśrāʾēl וְכָל And all kōl הָעָ֡ם the people ʿam הֵרִיעוּ֩ shouted rûaʿ תְרוּעָ֨ה shout, tĕrûʿâ גְדוֹלָ֤ה with a great gādôl בְהַלֵּל֙ when they praised hālal לַֽיהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ עַ֖ל because ʿal הוּסַ֥ד the foundation laid. yāsad בֵּית of the house bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord was yĕhōwâ

וְרַבִּ֡ים But many rab מֵהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֣ים of the priests kōhēn וְהַלְוִיִּם֩ and Levites lēwiyyî וְרָאשֵׁ֨י and chief rōš הָֽאָב֜וֹת of the fathers, ʾāb הַזְּקֵנִ֗ים ancient men, zāqēn אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer רָא֜וּ had seen rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַבַּ֤יִת house, bayit הָֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ the first riʾšôn בְּיָסְד֔וֹ when the foundation laid yāsad זֶ֤ה was ze הַבַּ֙יִת֙ of this house bayit בְּעֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔ם before their eyes, ʿayin בֹּכִ֖ים wept bākâ בְּק֣וֹל voice; qôl גָּד֑וֹל with a loud gādôl וְרַבִּ֛ים and many rab בִּתְרוּעָ֥ה shouted tĕrûʿâ בְשִׂמְחָ֖ה for joy: śimḥâ לְהָרִ֥ים aloud rûm קֽוֹל׃ qôl

וְאֵ֣ין could not ʾayin הָעָ֗ם So that the people ʿam מַכִּירִים֙ discern nākar ק֚וֹל the noise qôl תְּרוּעַ֣ת of the shout tĕrûʿâ הַשִּׂמְחָ֔ה of joy śimḥâ לְק֖וֹל from the noise qôl בְּכִ֣י of the weeping bĕkî הָעָ֑ם of the people: ʿam כִּ֣י for kî הָעָ֗ם the people ʿam מְרִיעִים֙ shouted rûaʿ תְּרוּעָ֣ה shout, tĕrûʿâ גְדוֹלָ֔ה with a loud gādôl וְהַקּ֥וֹל and the noise qôl נִשְׁמַ֖ע was heard šāmaʿ עַד ʿad לְמֵֽרָחֽוֹק׃ afar off. rāḥôq
