וַיִּקְרָ֣א He cried qārāʾ בְאָזְנַ֗י also in mine ears ʾōzen ק֤וֹל voice, qôl גָּדוֹל֙ with a loud gādôl לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar קָרְב֖וּ to draw near, qārab פְּקֻדּ֣וֹת Cause them that have charge pĕquddâ הָעִ֑יר over the city ʿîr וְאִ֛ישׁ even every man ʾîš כְּלִ֥י weapon kĕlî מַשְׁחֵת֖וֹ his destroying mašḥēt בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ in his hand. yād

וְהִנֵּ֣ה And, behold, hinnē שִׁשָּׁ֣ה six šēš אֲנָשִׁ֡ים men ʾîš בָּאִ֣ים׀ came bôʾ מִדֶּרֶךְ from the way derek שַׁ֨עַר gate, šaʿar הָעֶלְי֜וֹן of the higher ʿelyôn אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ which ʾăšer מָפְנֶ֣ה lieth pānâ צָפ֗וֹנָה toward the north, ṣāpôn וְאִ֨ישׁ and every man ʾîš כְּלִ֤י weapon kĕlî מַפָּצוֹ֙ a slaughter mappāṣ בְּיָד֔וֹ in his hand; yād וְאִישׁ man ʾîš אֶחָ֤ד and one ʾeḥād בְּתוֹכָם֙ among tāwek לָבֻ֣שׁ them clothed lābaš בַּדִּ֔ים with linen, bad וְקֶ֥סֶת inkhorn qeset הַסֹּפֵ֖ר with a writer's sāpar בְּמָתְנָ֑יו by his side: mōten וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ and they went in, bôʾ וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ and stood ʿāmad אֵ֖צֶל beside ʾēṣel מִזְבַּ֥ח altar. mizbēaḥ הַנְּחֹֽשֶׁת׃ the brasen nĕḥōšet

וּכְב֣וֹד׀ And the glory kābôd אֱלֹהֵ֣י of the God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl נַעֲלָה֙ was gone up ʿālâ מֵעַ֤ל from ʿal הַכְּרוּב֙ the cherub, kĕrûb אֲשֶׁ֣ר whereupon ʾăšer הָיָ֣ה he was, hāyâ עָלָ֔יו ʿal אֶ֖ל to ʾēl מִפְתַּ֣ן the threshold miptān הַבָּ֑יִת of the house. bayit וַיִּקְרָ֗א And he called qārāʾ אֶל to ʾēl הָאִישׁ֙ the man ʾîš הַלָּבֻ֣שׁ clothed lābaš הַבַּדִּ֔ים with linen, bad אֲשֶׁ֛ר which ʾăšer קֶ֥סֶת inkhorn qeset הַסֹּפֵ֖ר the writer's sāpar בְּמָתְנָֽיו׃ by his side; mōten

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלָ֔ו unto ʾēl עֲבֹר֙ him, Go through ʿābar בְּת֣וֹךְ the midst tāwek הָעִ֔יר of the city, ʿîr בְּת֖וֹךְ through the midst tāwek יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim וְהִתְוִ֨יתָ and set tāwâ תָּ֜ו a mark tāw עַל upon ʿal מִצְח֣וֹת the foreheads mēṣaḥ הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים of the men ʾĕnôš הַנֶּֽאֱנָחִים֙ that sigh ʾānaḥ וְהַנֶּ֣אֱנָקִ֔ים and that cry ʾānaq עַ֚ל for ʿal כָּל all kōl הַתּ֣וֹעֵב֔וֹת the abominations tôʿēba הַֽנַּעֲשׂ֖וֹת that be done ʿāśâ בְּתוֹכָֽהּ׃ in the midst thereof. tāwek

וּלְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ And to the others ʾēlle אָמַ֣ר he said ʾāmar בְּאָזְנַ֔י in mine hearing, ʾōzen עִבְר֥וּ Go ʿābar בָעִ֛יר him through the city, ʿîr אַחֲרָ֖יו ye after ʾaḥar וְהַכּ֑וּ and smite: nākâ עַל let not ʿal תָּחֹ֥ס spare, ḥûs עֵינְכֶ֖ם your eye ʿayin וְאַל neither ʾal תַּחְמֹֽלוּ׃ have ye pity: ḥāmal

זָקֵ֡ן old zāqēn בָּח֣וּר young, bāḥûr וּבְתוּלָה֩ both maids, bĕtûlâ וְטַ֨ף and little children, ṭap וְנָשִׁ֜ים and women: ʾiššâ תַּהַרְג֣וּ Slay hārag לְמַשְׁחִ֗ית utterly mašḥît וְעַל upon ʿal כָּל any kōl אִ֨ישׁ man ʾîš אֲשֶׁר whom ʾăšer עָלָ֤יו ʿal הַתָּו֙ the mark; tāw אַל ʾal תִּגַּ֔שׁוּ but come not near nāgaš וּמִמִּקְדָּשִׁ֖י at my sanctuary. miqdoš תָּחֵ֑לּוּ and begin ḥālal וַיָּחֵ֙לּוּ֙ Then they began ḥālal בָּאֲנָשִׁ֣ים men ʾîš הַזְּקֵנִ֔ים at the ancient zāqēn אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm הַבָּֽיִת׃ the house. bayit

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר And he said ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם unto ʾēl טַמְּא֣וּ them, Defile ṭāmēʾ אֶת ʾēt הַבַּ֗יִת the house, bayit וּמַלְא֧וּ and fill mālēʾ אֶת ʾēt הַחֲצֵר֛וֹת the courts ḥāṣēr חֲלָלִ֖ים with the slain: ḥālāl צֵ֑אוּ go ye forth. yāṣāʾ וְיָצְא֖וּ And they went forth, yāṣāʾ וְהִכּ֥וּ and slew nākâ בָעִֽיר׃ in the city. ʿîr

וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass, hāyâ כְּהַכּוֹתָ֔ם while they were slaying nākâ וְנֵֽאשֲׁאַ֖ר was left, šāʾar אָ֑נִי them, and I ʾănî וָאֶפְּלָ֨ה that I fell nāpal עַל upon ʿal פָּנַ֜י my face, pānîm וָאֶזְעַ֗ק and cried, zāʿaq וָֽאֹמַר֙ and said, ʾāmar אֲהָהּ֙ Ah ʾăhāh אֲדֹנָ֣י Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֔ה God! yĕhōwi הֲמַשְׁחִ֣ית destroy šāḥat אַתָּ֗ה wilt thou ʾattâ אֵ֚ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl שְׁאֵרִ֣ית the residue šĕʾērît יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּשָׁפְכְּךָ֥ in thy pouring out šāpak אֶת ʾēt חֲמָתְךָ֖ of thy fury ḥēmâ עַל upon ʿal יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem? yĕrûšālaim

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then said ʾāmar אֵלַ֗י he unto ʾēl עֲוֹ֨ן me, The iniquity ʿāwōn בֵּֽית of the house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl וִֽיהוּדָה֙ and Judah yĕhûdâ גָּדוֹל֙ great, gādôl בִּמְאֹ֣ד exceeding mĕʾōd מְאֹ֔ד mĕʾōd וַתִּמָּלֵ֤א is full mālēʾ הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ and the land ʾereṣ דָּמִ֔ים of blood, dām וְהָעִ֖יר and the city ʿîr מָלְאָ֣ה full mālēʾ מֻטֶּ֑ה of perverseness: muṭṭe כִּ֣י for kî אָמְר֗וּ they say, ʾāmar עָזַ֤ב hath forsaken ʿāzab יְהוָה֙ The Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt הָאָ֔רֶץ the earth, ʾereṣ וְאֵ֥ין ʾayin יְהוָ֖ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ רֹאֶֽה׃ seeth not. rāʾâ

וְגַ֨ם also, gam אֲנִ֔י And as for me ʾănî לֹא shall not lōʾ תָח֥וֹס spare, ḥûs עֵינִ֖י mine eye ʿayin וְלֹ֣א neither lōʾ אֶחְמֹ֑ל will I have pity, ḥāmal דַּרְכָּ֖ם their way derek בְּרֹאשָׁ֥ם upon their head. rōš נָתָֽתִּי׃ I will recompense nātan

וְהִנֵּ֞ה And, behold, hinnē הָאִ֣ישׁ׀ the man ʾîš לְבֻ֣שׁ clothed lābaš הַבַּדִּ֗ים with linen, bad אֲשֶׁ֤ר which ʾăšer הַקֶּ֙סֶת֙ the inkhorn qeset בְּמָתְנָ֔יו by his side, mōten מֵשִׁ֥יב reported šûb דָּבָ֖ר the matter, dābār לֵאמֹ֑ר saying, ʾāmar עָשִׂ֕יתִי I have done ʿāśâ כְּ֖אֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צִוִּיתָֽנִי׃ thou hast commanded me. ṣāwâ
