לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תִרְאֶה֩ see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt שׁ֨וֹר ox šôr אָחִ֜יךָ thy brother's ʾāḥ א֤וֹ or ʾô אֶת ʾēt שֵׂיוֹ֙ his sheep śe נִדָּחִ֔ים go astray, nādaḥ וְהִתְעַלַּמְתָּ֖ and hide thyself ʿālam מֵהֶ֑ם hēm הָשֵׁ֥ב from them: thou shalt in any case šûb תְּשִׁיבֵ֖ם bring them again šûb לְאָחִֽיךָ׃ unto thy brother. ʾāḥ

וְאִם And if ʾim לֹ֨א not lōʾ קָר֥וֹב nigh qārôb אָחִ֛יךָ thy brother ʾāḥ אֵלֶ֖יךָ unto ʾēl וְלֹ֣א him not, lōʾ יְדַעְתּ֑וֹ thee, or if thou know yādaʿ וַֽאֲסַפְתּוֹ֙ then thou shalt bring ʾāsap אֶל ʾēl תּ֣וֹךְ it unto tāwek בֵּיתֶ֔ךָ thine own house, bayit וְהָיָ֣ה and it shall be hāyâ עִמְּךָ֗ with ʿim עַ֣ד thee until ʿad דְּרֹ֤שׁ seek after dāraš אָחִ֙יךָ֙ thy brother ʾāḥ אֹת֔וֹ ʾēt וַהֲשֵֽׁבֹת֖וֹ it, and thou shalt restore it to him again. šûb לֽוֹ׃

וְכֵ֧ן In like manner kēn תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה shalt thou do ʿāśâ לַֽחֲמֹר֗וֹ with his ass; ḥămôr וְכֵ֣ן and so kēn תַּֽעֲשֶׂה֮ shalt thou do ʿāśâ לְשִׂמְלָתוֹ֒ with his raiment; śimlâ וְכֵ֣ן likewise: kēn תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֜ה shalt thou do ʿāśâ לְכָל and with all kōl אֲבֵדַ֥ת lost thing ʾăbēdâ אָחִ֛יךָ of thy brother's, ʾāḥ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer תֹּאבַ֥ד he hath lost, ʾābad מִמֶּ֖נּוּ min וּמְצָאתָ֑הּ and thou hast found, māṣāʾ לֹ֥א not lōʾ תוּכַ֖ל thou mayest yākōl לְהִתְעַלֵּֽם׃ hide thyself. ʿālam

לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תִרְאֶה֩ see rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt חֲמ֨וֹר ass ḥămôr אָחִ֜יךָ thy brother's ʾāḥ א֤וֹ or ʾô שׁוֹרוֹ֙ his ox šôr נֹֽפְלִ֣ים fall down nāpal בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ by the way, derek וְהִתְעַלַּמְתָּ֖ and hide thyself ʿālam מֵהֶ֑ם hēm הָקֵ֥ם from them: thou shalt surely qûm תָּקִ֖ים help him to lift up again. qûm עִמּֽוֹ׃ ʿim

לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יִהְיֶ֤ה wear hāyâ כְלִי that which pertaineth kĕlî גֶ֙בֶר֙ unto a man, geber עַל ʿal אִשָּׁ֔ה The woman ʾiššâ וְלֹֽא neither lōʾ יִלְבַּ֥שׁ put on lābaš גֶּ֖בֶר shall a man geber שִׂמְלַ֣ת garment: śimlâ אִשָּׁ֑ה a woman's ʾiššâ כִּ֧י for kî תֽוֹעֲבַ֛ת abomination tôʿēba יְהוָ֥ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God. ʾĕlōhîm כָּל all kōl עֹ֥שֵׂה that do ʿāśâ אֵֽלֶּה׃ so ʾēlle

כִּ֣י If kî יִקָּרֵ֣א chance qārāʾ קַן nest qēn צִפּ֣וֹר׀ a bird's ṣippôr לְפָנֶ֡יךָ to be before pānîm בַּדֶּ֜רֶךְ thee in the way derek בְּכָל in any kōl עֵ֣ץ׀ tree, ʿēṣ א֣וֹ or ʾô עַל on ʿal הָאָ֗רֶץ the ground, ʾereṣ אֶפְרֹחִים֙ young ones, ʾeprōaḥ א֣וֹ or ʾô בֵיצִ֔ים eggs, bêṣâ וְהָאֵ֤ם and the dam ʾēm רֹבֶ֙צֶת֙ sitting rābaṣ עַל upon ʿal הָֽאֶפְרֹחִ֔ים the young, ʾeprōaḥ א֖וֹ or ʾô עַל upon ʿal הַבֵּיצִ֑ים the eggs, bêṣâ לֹֽא thou shalt not lōʾ תִקַּ֥ח take lāqaḥ הָאֵ֖ם the dam ʾēm עַל with ʿal הַבָּנִֽים׃ the young: bēn

שַׁלֵּ֤חַ thou shalt in any wise šālaḥ תְּשַׁלַּח֙ go, šālaḥ אֶת ʾēt הָאֵ֔ם let the dam ʾēm וְאֶת ʾēt הַבָּנִ֖ים the young bēn תִּֽקַּֽח and take lāqaḥ לָ֑ךְ לְמַ֙עַן֙ to thee; that maʿan יִ֣יטַב it may be well yāṭab לָ֔ךְ וְהַֽאֲרַכְתָּ֖ with thee, and thou mayest prolong ʾārak יָמִֽים׃ days. yôm

כִּ֤י When kî תִבְנֶה֙ thou buildest bānâ בַּ֣יִת house, bayit חָדָ֔שׁ a new ḥādoš וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ then thou shalt make ʿāśâ מַֽעֲקֶ֖ה a battlement maʿăqe לְגַגֶּ֑ךָ for thy roof, gāg וְלֹֽא not lōʾ תָשִׂ֤ים that thou bring śûm דָּמִים֙ blood dām בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ upon thine house, bayit כִּֽי if kî יִפֹּ֥ל any man nāpal הַנֹּפֵ֖ל fall nāpal מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ from thence. min

לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תִזְרַ֥ע sow zāraʿ כַּרְמְךָ֖ thy vineyard kerem כִּלְאָ֑יִם with divers seeds: kilʾayim פֶּן lest pēn תִּקְדַּ֗שׁ be defiled. qādaš הַֽמְלֵאָ֤ה the fruit mĕlēʾâ הַזֶּ֙רַע֙ of thy seed zeraʿ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer תִּזְרָ֔ע thou hast sown, zāraʿ וּתְבוּאַ֖ת and the fruit tĕbûʾâ הַכָּֽרֶם׃ of thy vineyard, kerem

לֹֽא Thou shalt not lōʾ תַחֲרֹ֥שׁ plow ḥāraš בְּשׁוֹר with an ox šôr וּבַֽחֲמֹ֖ר and an ass ḥămôr יַחְדָּֽו׃ together. yaḥad

לֹ֤א Thou shalt not lōʾ תִלְבַּשׁ֙ wear lābaš שַֽׁעַטְנֵ֔ז a garment of divers sorts, šaʿaṭnēz צֶ֥מֶר of woollen ṣemer וּפִשְׁתִּ֖ים and linen pište יַחְדָּֽו׃ together. yaḥad

גְּדִלִ֖ים thee fringes gĕdil תַּֽעֲשֶׂה Thou shalt make ʿāśâ לָּ֑ךְ עַל upon ʿal אַרְבַּ֛ע the four ʾarbaʿ כַּנְפ֥וֹת quarters kānāp כְּסֽוּתְךָ֖ of thy vesture, kĕsût אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherewith ʾăšer תְּכַסֶּה thou coverest kāsâ בָּֽהּ׃

כִּֽי If kî יִקַּ֥ח take lāqaḥ אִ֖ישׁ any man ʾîš אִשָּׁ֑ה a wife, ʾiššâ וּבָ֥א and go in bôʾ אֵלֶ֖יהָ unto ʾēl וּשְׂנֵאָֽהּ׃ her, and hate her, śānēʾ

וְשָׂ֥ם And give śûm לָהּ֙ עֲלִילֹ֣ת occasions ʿălîlâ דְּבָרִ֔ים of speech dābār וְהוֹצִ֥א against her, and bring up yāṣāʾ עָלֶ֖יהָ upon ʿal שֵׁ֣ם name šēm רָ֑ע an evil raʿ וְאָמַ֗ר her, and say, ʾāmar אֶת ʾēt הָֽאִשָּׁ֤ה woman, ʾiššâ הַזֹּאת֙ this zōt לָקַ֔חְתִּי I took lāqaḥ וָֽאֶקְרַ֣ב and when I came qārab אֵלֶ֔יהָ to ʾēl וְלֹֽא her not lōʾ מָצָ֥אתִי her, I found māṣāʾ לָ֖הּ בְּתוּלִֽים׃ a maid: bĕtûlîm

וְלָקַ֛ח take lāqaḥ אֲבִ֥י Then shall the father ʾāb הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ of the damsel, naʿărâ וְאִמָּ֑הּ and her mother, ʾēm וְהוֹצִ֜יאוּ and bring forth yāṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt בְּתוּלֵ֧י virginity bĕtûlîm הַֽנַּעֲרָ֛ the damsel's naʿărâ אֶל unto ʾēl זִקְנֵ֥י the elders zāqēn הָעִ֖יר of the city ʿîr הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃ in the gate: šaʿar

וְאָמַ֛ר shall say ʾāmar אֲבִ֥י father ʾāb הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ And the damsel's naʿărâ אֶל unto ʾēl הַזְּקֵנִ֑ים the elders, zāqēn אֶת ʾēt בִּתִּ֗י my daughter bat נָתַ֜תִּי I gave nātan לָאִ֥ישׁ man ʾîš הַזֶּ֛ה unto this ze לְאִשָּׁ֖ה to wife, ʾiššâ וַיִּשְׂנָאֶֽהָ׃ and he hateth her; śānēʾ

וְהִנֵּה And, lo, hinnē ה֡וּא he hûʾ שָׂם֩ hath given śûm עֲלִילֹ֨ת occasions ʿălîlâ דְּבָרִ֜ים of speech dābār לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar לֹֽא not lōʾ מָצָ֤אתִי I found māṣāʾ לְבִתְּךָ֙ thy daughter bat בְּתוּלִ֔ים a maid; bĕtûlîm וְאֵ֖לֶּה and yet these ʾēlle בְּתוּלֵ֣י virginity. bĕtûlîm בִתִּ֑י my daughter's bat וּפָֽרְשׂוּ֙ And they shall spread pāraś הַשִּׂמְלָ֔ה the cloth śimlâ לִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm זִקְנֵ֥י the elders zāqēn הָעִֽיר׃ of the city. ʿîr

וְלָֽקְח֛וּ shall take lāqaḥ זִקְנֵ֥י And the elders zāqēn הָֽעִיר city ʿîr הַהִ֖וא of that hûʾ אֶת ʾēt הָאִ֑ישׁ that man ʾîš וְיִסְּר֖וּ and chastise him; yāsar אֹתֽוֹ׃ ʾēt

וְעָֽנְשׁ֨וּ And they shall amerce ʿānaš אֹת֜וֹ ʾēt מֵ֣אָה him in an hundred mēʾâ כֶ֗סֶף of silver, kesep וְנָֽתְנוּ֙ and give nātan לַֽאֲבִ֣י unto the father ʾāb הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ה of the damsel, naʿărâ כִּ֤י because kî הוֹצִיא֙ he hath brought up yāṣāʾ שֵׁ֣ם name šēm רָ֔ע an evil raʿ עַ֖ל upon ʿal בְּתוּלַ֣ת a virgin bĕtûlâ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְלֽוֹ תִהְיֶ֣ה and she shall be hāyâ לְאִשָּׁ֔ה his wife; ʾiššâ לֹֽא not lōʾ יוּכַ֥ל he may yākōl לְשַׁלְּחָ֖הּ put her away šālaḥ כָּל all kōl יָמָֽיו׃ his days. yôm

וְאִם But if ʾim אֱמֶ֣ת true, ʾemet הָיָ֔ה be hāyâ הַדָּבָ֖ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֑ה this ze לֹֽא be not lōʾ נִמְצְא֥וּ found māṣāʾ בְתוּלִ֖ים virginity bĕtûlîm לַֽנַּעֲרָֽ׃ for the damsel: naʿărâ

וְהוֹצִ֨יאוּ Then they shall bring out yāṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt הַֽנַּעֲרָ֜ the damsel naʿărâ אֶל to ʾēl פֶּ֣תַח the door petaḥ בֵּית house, bayit אָבִ֗יהָ of her father's ʾāb וּסְקָלוּהָ֩ shall stone sāqal אַנְשֵׁ֨י and the men ʾîš עִירָ֤הּ of her city ʿîr בָּֽאֲבָנִים֙ her with stones ʾeben וָמֵ֔תָה that she die: mût כִּֽי because kî עָשְׂתָ֤ה she hath wrought ʿāśâ נְבָלָה֙ folly nĕbālâ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל in Israel, yiśrāʾēl לִזְנ֖וֹת to play the whore zānâ בֵּ֣ית house: bayit אָבִ֑יהָ in her father's ʾāb וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ so shalt thou put bāʿar הָרָ֖ע evil raʿ מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ away from among you. qereb

כִּֽי If kî יִמָּצֵ֨א be found māṣāʾ אִ֜ישׁ a man ʾîš שֹׁכֵ֣ב׀ lying šākab עִם with ʿim אִשָּׁ֣ה a woman ʾiššâ בְעֻֽלַת married bāʿal בַּ֗עַל to an husband, baʿal וּמֵ֙תוּ֙ die, mût גַּם then they shall both gam שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם of them šĕnayim הָאִ֛ישׁ the man ʾîš הַשֹּׁכֵ֥ב that lay šākab עִם with ʿim הָֽאִשָּׁ֖ה the woman, ʾiššâ וְהָֽאִשָּׁ֑ה and the woman: ʾiššâ וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ so shalt thou put away bāʿar הָרָ֖ע evil raʿ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ from Israel. yiśrāʾēl

כִּ֤י If kî יִֽהְיֶה֙ be hāyâ נַֽעֲרָ֣ a damsel naʿărâ בְתוּלָ֔ה a virgin bĕtûlâ מְאֹֽרָשָׂ֖ה betrothed ʾāraś לְאִ֑ישׁ unto an husband, ʾîš וּמְצָאָ֥הּ find māṣāʾ אִ֛ישׁ and a man ʾîš בָּעִ֖יר her in the city, ʿîr וְשָׁכַ֥ב and lie šākab עִמָּֽהּ׃ with her; ʿim

וְהֽוֹצֵאתֶ֨ם Then ye shall bring yāṣāʾ אֶת out ʾēt שְׁנֵיהֶ֜ם them both šĕnayim אֶל unto ʾēl שַׁ֣עַר׀ the gate šaʿar הָעִ֣יר city, ʿîr הַהִ֗וא of that hûʾ וּסְקַלְתֶּ֨ם and ye shall stone sāqal אֹתָ֥ם ʾēt בָּֽאֲבָנִים֮ them with stones ʾeben וָמֵתוּ֒ that they die; mût אֶת ʾēt הַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ the damsel, naʿărâ עַל ʿal דְּבַר֙ dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר because ʾăšer לֹֽא not, lōʾ צָעֲקָ֣ה she cried ṣāʿaq בָעִ֔יר in the city; ʿîr וְאֶ֨ת ʾēt הָאִ֔ישׁ and the man, ʾîš עַל ʿal דְּבַ֥ר dābār אֲשֶׁר because ʾăšer עִנָּ֖ה he hath humbled ʿānâ אֶת ʾēt אֵ֣שֶׁת wife: ʾiššâ רֵעֵ֑הוּ his neighbour's rēaʿ וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ so thou shalt put away bāʿar הָרָ֖ע evil raʿ מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ from among you. qereb

וְֽאִם But if ʾim בַּשָּׂדֶ֞ה in the field, śāde יִמְצָ֣א find māṣāʾ הָאִ֗ישׁ a man ʾîš אֶת ʾēt הַֽנַּעֲרָ֙ damsel naʿărâ הַמְאֹ֣רָשָׂ֔ה a betrothed ʾāraś וְהֶחֱזִֽיק force ḥāzaq בָּ֥הּ הָאִ֖ישׁ and the man ʾîš וְשָׁכַ֣ב her, and lie šākab עִמָּ֑הּ with ʿim וּמֵ֗ת her shall die: mût הָאִ֛ישׁ her: then the man ʾîš אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer שָׁכַ֥ב lay šākab עִמָּ֖הּ with ʿim לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ only bad

וְלַֽנַּעֲרָ֙ But unto the damsel naʿărâ לֹֽא lōʾ תַעֲשֶׂ֣ה thou shalt do ʿāśâ דָבָ֔ר nothing; dābār אֵ֥ין no ʾayin לַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ in the damsel naʿărâ חֵ֣טְא sin ḥēṭĕʾ מָ֑וֶת of death: māwet כִּ֡י for kî כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֩ as ʾăšer יָק֨וּם riseth qûm אִ֤ישׁ when a man ʾîš עַל against ʿal רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ his neighbour, rēaʿ וּרְצָח֣וֹ and slayeth rāṣaḥ נֶ֔פֶשׁ nepeš כֵּ֖ן him, even so kēn הַדָּבָ֥ר matter: dābār הַזֶּֽה׃ this ze

כִּ֥י For kî בַשָּׂדֶ֖ה her in the field, śāde מְצָאָ֑הּ he found māṣāʾ צָֽעֲקָ֗ה cried, ṣāʿaq הַֽנַּעֲרָ֙ damsel naʿărâ הַמְאֹ֣רָשָׂ֔ה the betrothed ʾāraś וְאֵ֥ין and none ʾayin מוֹשִׁ֖יעַ to save her. yāšaʿ לָֽהּ׃

כִּֽי If kî יִמְצָ֣א find māṣāʾ אִ֗ישׁ a man ʾîš נַֽעֲרָ֤ a damsel naʿărâ בְתוּלָה֙ a virgin, bĕtûlâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer לֹֽא is not lōʾ אֹרָ֔שָׂה betrothed, ʾāraś וּתְפָשָׂ֖הּ and lay hold tāpaś וְשָׁכַ֣ב on her, and lie šākab עִמָּ֑הּ with ʿim וְנִמְצָֽאוּ׃ her, and they be found; māṣāʾ

וְ֠נָתַן her shall give nātan הָאִ֨ישׁ Then the man ʾîš הַשֹּׁכֵ֥ב that lay šākab עִמָּ֛הּ with ʿim לַֽאֲבִ֥י father ʾāb הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ unto the damsel's naʿărâ חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים fifty ḥămiššîm כָּ֑סֶף of silver, kesep וְלֽוֹ תִהְיֶ֣ה and she shall be hāyâ לְאִשָּׁ֗ה his wife; ʾiššâ תַּ֚חַת because taḥat אֲשֶׁ֣ר ʾăšer עִנָּ֔הּ he hath humbled ʿānâ לֹֽא not lōʾ יוּכַ֥ל her, he may yākōl שַׁלְּחָ֖הּ put her away šālaḥ כָּל all kōl יָמָֽיו׃ his days. yôm

לֹֽא shall not lōʾ יִקַּ֥ח take lāqaḥ אִ֖ישׁ A man ʾîš אֶת ʾēt אֵ֣שֶׁת wife, ʾiššâ אָבִ֑יו his father's ʾāb וְלֹ֥א nor lōʾ יְגַלֶּ֖ה discover gālâ כְּנַ֥ף skirt. kānāp אָבִֽיו׃ his father's ʾāb
