  1. מִקֵּ֥ץ At the end qēṣ שֶֽׁבַע of seven šebaʿ שָׁנִ֖ים years šāne תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה thou shalt make ʿāśâ שְׁמִטָּֽה׃ a release. šĕmiṭṭâ
  2. וְזֶה֮ And this ze דְּבַ֣ר the manner dābār הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ of the release: šĕmiṭṭâ שָׁמ֗וֹט shall release šāmaṭ כָּל Every kōl בַּ֙עַל֙ baʿal מַשֵּׁ֣ה creditor mašše יָד֔וֹ yād אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer יַשֶּׁ֖ה lendeth nāšâ בְּרֵעֵ֑הוּ unto his neighbour rēaʿ לֹֽא he shall not lōʾ יִגֹּ֤שׂ exact nāgaś אֶת ʾēt רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ of his neighbour, rēaʿ וְאֶת ʾēt אָחִ֔יו or of his brother; ʾāḥ כִּֽי because קָרָ֥א it is called qārāʾ שְׁמִטָּ֖ה release. šĕmiṭṭâ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ the Lord's yĕhōwâ
  3. אֶת Of ʾēt הַנָּכְרִ֖י a foreigner nokrî תִּגֹּ֑שׂ thou mayest exact nāgaś וַֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר but which ʾăšer יִֽהְיֶ֥ה is hāyâ לְךָ֛ אֶת thine with ʾēt אָחִ֖יךָ thy brother ʾāḥ תַּשְׁמֵ֥ט shall release; šāmaṭ יָדֶֽךָ׃ thine hand yād
  4. אֶ֕פֶס Save ʾepes כִּ֛י when לֹ֥א no lōʾ יִֽהְיֶה there shall be hāyâ בְּךָ֖ אֶבְי֑וֹן poor ʾebyôn כִּֽי among you; for בָרֵ֤ךְ shall greatly bārak יְבָֽרֶכְךָ֙ bless bārak יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בָּאָ֕רֶץ thee in the land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר֙ which ʾăšer יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm נֹֽתֵן giveth nātan לְךָ֥ נַֽחֲלָ֖ה thee an inheritance naḥălâ לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ to possess it: yāraš
  5. רַ֚ק Only raq אִם if ʾim שָׁמ֣וֹעַ thou carefully šāmaʿ תִּשְׁמַ֔ע hearken šāmaʿ בְּק֖וֹל unto the voice qôl יְהוָ֣ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm לִשְׁמֹ֤ר to observe šāmar לַֽעֲשׂוֹת֙ to do ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַמִּצְוָ֣ה commandments miṣwâ הַזֹּ֔את these zōt אֲשֶׁ֛ר which ʾăšer אָֽנֹכִ֥י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֖ command ṣāwâ הַיּֽוֹם׃ thee this day. yôm
  6. כִּֽי For יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בֵּֽרַכְךָ֔ blesseth bārak כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר thee, as ʾăšer דִּבֶּר he promised dābar לָ֑ךְ וְהַֽעֲבַטְתָּ֞ thee: and thou shalt lend ʿābaṭ גּוֹיִ֣ם nations, gôy רַבִּ֗ים unto many rab וְאַתָּה֙ but thou ʾattâ לֹ֣א shalt not lōʾ תַֽעֲבֹ֔ט borrow; ʿābaṭ וּמָֽשַׁלְתָּ֙ and thou shalt reign māšal בְּגוֹיִ֣ם nations, gôy רַבִּ֔ים over many rab וּבְךָ֖ לֹ֥א but they shall not lōʾ יִמְשֹֽׁלוּ׃ reign over thee. māšal
  7. כִּֽי If יִהְיֶה֩ there be hāyâ בְךָ֙ אֶבְי֜וֹן among you a poor man ʾebyôn מֵֽאַחַ֤ד of one ʾeḥād אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ of thy brethren ʾāḥ בְּאַחַ֣ד within any ʾeḥād שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ of thy gates šaʿar בְּאַ֨רְצְךָ֔ in thy land ʾereṣ אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm נֹתֵ֣ן giveth nātan לָ֑ךְ לֹ֧א thee, thou shalt not lōʾ תְאַמֵּ֣ץ harden ʾāmaṣ אֶת ʾēt לְבָֽבְךָ֗ thine heart, lēbāb וְלֹ֤א nor lōʾ תִקְפֹּץ֙ shut qāpaṣ אֶת ʾēt יָ֣דְךָ֔ thine hand yād מֵֽאָחִ֖יךָ brother: ʾāḥ הָֽאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ from thy poor ʾebyôn
  8. כִּֽי But פָתֹ֧חַ thou shalt open pātaḥ תִּפְתַּ֛ח wide pātaḥ אֶת ʾēt יָֽדְךָ֖ thine hand yād ל֑וֹ וְהַֽעֲבֵט֙ unto him, and shalt surely ʿābaṭ תַּֽעֲבִיטֶ֔נּוּ lend ʿābaṭ דֵּ֚י him sufficient day מַחְסֹר֔וֹ for his need, maḥsôr אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer יֶחְסַ֖ר he wanteth. ḥāsēr לֽוֹ׃
  9. הִשָּׁ֣מֶר Beware šāmar לְךָ֡ פֶּן that pēn יִֽהְיֶ֣ה there be hāyâ דָבָר֩ not a thought dābār עִם in ʿim לְבָֽבְךָ֙ heart, lēbāb בְלִיַּ֜עַל thy wicked bĕliyyaʿal לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar קָֽרְבָ֣ה is at hand; qārab שְׁנַֽת year, šāne הַשֶּׁבַע֮ The seventh šebaʿ שְׁנַ֣ת the year šāne הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ of release, šĕmiṭṭâ וְרָעָ֣ה be evil rāʿaʿ עֵֽינְךָ֗ and thine eye ʿayin בְּאָחִ֙יךָ֙ brother, ʾāḥ הָֽאֶבְי֔וֹן against thy poor ʾebyôn וְלֹ֥א him nought; lōʾ תִתֵּ֖ן and thou givest nātan ל֑וֹ וְקָרָ֤א and he cry qārāʾ עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ against ʿal אֶל unto ʾēl יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ וְהָיָ֥ה thee, and it be hāyâ בְךָ֖ חֵֽטְא׃ sin unto thee. ḥēṭĕʾ
  10. נָת֤וֹן Thou shalt surely nātan תִּתֵּן֙ give nātan ל֔וֹ וְלֹֽא shall not lōʾ יֵרַ֥ע be grieved rāʿaʿ לְבָֽבְךָ֖ him, and thine heart lēbāb בְּתִתְּךָ֣ when thou givest nātan ל֑וֹ כִּ֞י that בִּגְלַ֣ל׀ unto him: because gālāl הַדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֗ה for this ze יְבָֽרֶכְךָ֙ shall bless bārak יְהוָ֣ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּכָֽל thee in all kōl מַעֲשֶׂ֔ךָ thy works, maʿăśe וּבְכֹ֖ל and in all kōl מִשְׁלַ֥ח that thou puttest mišlôaḥ יָדֶֽךָ׃ thine hand unto. yād
  11. כִּ֛י For לֹֽא shall never lōʾ יֶחְדַּ֥ל cease ḥādal אֶבְי֖וֹן the poor ʾebyôn מִקֶּ֣רֶב out of qereb הָאָ֑רֶץ the land: ʾereṣ עַל therefore ʿal כֵּ֞ן kēn אָֽנֹכִ֤י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֙ command ṣāwâ לֵאמֹ֔ר thee, saying, ʾāmar פָּ֠תֹחַ Thou shalt open pātaḥ תִּפְתַּ֨ח wide pātaḥ אֶת ʾēt יָֽדְךָ֜ thine hand yād לְאָחִ֧יךָ unto thy brother, ʾāḥ לַֽעֲנִיֶּ֛ךָ to thy poor, ʿānî וּלְאֶבְיֹֽנְךָ֖ and to thy needy, ʾebyôn בְּאַרְצֶֽךָ׃ in thy land. ʾereṣ
  12. כִּֽי if יִמָּכֵ֨ר be sold mākar לְךָ֜ אָחִ֣יךָ thy brother, ʾāḥ הָֽעִבְרִ֗י an Hebrew man, ʿibrî א֚וֹ or ʾô הָֽעִבְרִיָּ֔ה an Hebrew woman, ʿibrî וַעֲבָֽדְךָ֖ unto thee, and serve ʿābad שֵׁ֣שׁ thee six šēš שָׁנִ֑ים years; šāne וּבַשָּׁנָה֙ year šāne הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔ת then in the seventh šĕbîʿî תְּשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ thou shalt let him go šālaḥ חָפְשִׁ֖י free ḥopšî מֵֽעִמָּֽךְ׃ from thee. ʿim
  13. וְכִֽי And when תְשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ thou sendest šālaḥ חָפְשִׁ֖י him out free ḥopšî מֵֽעִמָּ֑ךְ from ʿim לֹ֥א thee, thou shalt not lōʾ תְשַׁלְּחֶ֖נּוּ let him go away šālaḥ רֵיקָֽם׃ empty: rêqām
  14. הַֽעֲנֵ֤יק Thou shalt furnish ʿānaq תַּֽעֲנִיק֙ him liberally ʿānaq ל֔וֹ מִצֹּ֣אנְךָ֔ out of thy flock, ṣōn וּמִֽגָּרְנְךָ֖ and out of thy floor, gōren וּמִיִּקְבֶ֑ךָ and out of thy winepress: yeqeb אֲשֶׁ֧ר wherewith ʾăšer בֵּֽרַכְךָ֛ hath blessed bārak יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm תִּתֶּן thee thou shalt give unto him. nātan לֽוֹ׃
  15. וְזָֽכַרְתָּ֗ And thou shalt remember zākar כִּ֣י that עֶ֤בֶד a bondman ʿebed הָיִ֙יתָ֙ thou wast hāyâ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt, miṣrayim וַֽיִּפְדְּךָ֖ redeemed pādâ יְהוָ֣ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm עַל thee: therefore ʿal כֵּ֞ן kēn אָֽנֹכִ֧י I ʾānōkî מְצַוְּךָ֛ command ṣāwâ אֶת thee ʾēt הַדָּבָ֥ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֖ה this ze הַיּֽוֹם׃ to day. yôm
  16. וְהָיָה֙ And it shall be, hāyâ כִּֽי if יֹאמַ֣ר he say ʾāmar אֵלֶ֔יךָ unto ʾēl לֹ֥א thee, I will not lōʾ אֵצֵ֖א go away yāṣāʾ מֵֽעִמָּ֑ךְ from ʿim כִּ֤י thee; because אֲהֵֽבְךָ֙ he loveth ʾāhab וְאֶת ʾēt בֵּיתֶ֔ךָ thee and thine house, bayit כִּי because ט֥וֹב he is well ṭôb ל֖וֹ עִמָּֽךְ׃ with thee; ʿim
  17. וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֣ Then thou shalt take lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt הַמַּרְצֵ֗עַ an aul, marṣēaʿ וְנָֽתַתָּ֤ה and thrust nātan בְאָזְנוֹ֙ through his ear ʾōzen וּבַדֶּ֔לֶת unto the door, delet וְהָיָ֥ה and he shall be hāyâ לְךָ֖ עֶ֣בֶד thy servant ʿebed עוֹלָ֑ם for ever. ʿôlām וְאַ֥ף And also ʾap לַאֲמָֽתְךָ֖ unto thy maidservant ʾāmâ תַּֽעֲשֶׂה thou shalt do ʿāśâ כֵּֽן׃ likewise. kēn
  18. לֹֽא It shall not lōʾ יִקְשֶׁ֣ה seem hard qāšâ בְעֵינֶ֗ךָ unto thee, ʿayin בְּשַׁלֵּֽחֲךָ֙ when thou sendest him away šālaḥ אֹת֤וֹ ʾēt חָפְשִׁי֙ free ḥopšî מֵֽעִמָּ֔ךְ from ʿim כִּ֗י thee; for מִשְׁנֶה֙ a double mišne שְׂכַ֣ר he hath been worth śākār שָׂכִ֔יר hired servant śākîr עֲבָֽדְךָ֖ in serving ʿābad שֵׁ֣שׁ thee six šēš שָׁנִ֑ים years: šāne וּבֵֽרַכְךָ֙ shall bless bārak יְהוָ֣ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm בְּכֹ֖ל thee in all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂה׃ thou doest. ʿāśâ
  19. כָּֽל All kōl הַבְּכ֡וֹר the firstling bĕkôr אֲשֶׁר֩ that ʾăšer יִוָּלֵ֨ד come yālad בִּבְקָֽרְךָ֤ of thy herd bāqār וּבְצֹֽאנְךָ֙ and of thy flock ṣōn הַזָּכָ֔ר males zākār תַּקְדִּ֖ישׁ thou shalt sanctify qādaš לַֽיהוָ֣ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ thy God: ʾĕlōhîm לֹ֤א thou shalt do no lōʾ תַֽעֲבֹד֙ work ʿābad בִּבְכֹ֣ר with the firstling bĕkôr שׁוֹרֶ֔ךָ of thy bullock, šôr וְלֹ֥א nor lōʾ תָגֹ֖ז shear gāzaz בְּכ֥וֹר the firstling bĕkôr צֹאנֶֽךָ׃ of thy sheep. ṣōn
  20. לִפְנֵי֩ before pānîm יְהוָ֨ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֤יךָ thy God ʾĕlōhîm תֹֽאכְלֶ֙נּוּ֙ Thou shalt eat ʾākal שָׁנָ֣ה year šāne בְשָׁנָ֔ה by year šāne בַּמָּק֖וֹם in the place māqôm אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer יִבְחַ֣ר shall choose, bāḥar יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אַתָּ֖ה thou ʾattâ וּבֵיתֶֽךָ׃ and thy household. bayit
  21. וְכִֽי And if יִהְיֶ֨ה there be hāyâ ב֜וֹ מ֗וּם blemish mʾûm פִּסֵּ֙חַ֙ therein, lame, pissēaḥ א֣וֹ or ʾô עִוֵּ֔ר blind, ʿiwwēr כֹּ֖ל any kōl מ֣וּם blemish, mʾûm רָ֑ע ill raʿ לֹ֣א thou shalt not lōʾ תִזְבָּחֶ֔נּוּ sacrifice zābaḥ לַֽיהוָ֖ה it unto the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ thy God. ʾĕlōhîm
  22. בִּשְׁעָרֶ֖יךָ it within thy gates: šaʿar תֹּֽאכְלֶ֑נּוּ Thou shalt eat ʾākal הַטָּמֵ֤א the unclean ṭāmēʾ וְהַטָּהוֹר֙ and the clean ṭāhôr יַחְדָּ֔ו alike, yaḥad כַּצְּבִ֖י as the roebuck, ṣĕbî וְכָֽאַיָּֽל׃ and as the hart. ʾayyāl
  23. רַ֥ק Only raq אֶת ʾēt דָּמ֖וֹ the blood dām לֹ֣א thou shalt not lōʾ תֹאכֵ֑ל eat ʾākal עַל it upon ʿal הָאָ֥רֶץ the ground ʾereṣ תִּשְׁפְּכֶ֖נּוּ thereof; thou shalt pour šāpak כַּמָּֽיִם׃ as water. mayim
