וַֽעֲתַלְיָה֙ And when Athaliah ʿătalyâ אֵ֣ם the mother ʾēm אֲחַזְיָ֔הוּ of Ahaziah ʾăḥazyâ ורָאֲתָ֖ה saw rāʾâ כִּ֣י that kî מֵ֣ת was dead, mût בְּנָ֑הּ her son bēn וַתָּ֙קָם֙ she arose qûm וַתְּאַבֵּ֔ד and destroyed ʾābad אֵ֖ת ʾēt כָּל all kōl זֶ֥רַע the seed zeraʿ הַמַּמְלָכָֽה׃ royal. mamlākâ

וַתִּקַּ֣ח took lāqaḥ יְהוֹשֶׁ֣בַע But Jehosheba, yĕhôšebaʿ בַּת the daughter bat הַמֶּֽלֶךְ of king melek י֠וֹרָם Joram, yôrām אֲח֨וֹת sister ʾāḥôt אֲחַזְיָ֜הוּ of Ahaziah, ʾăḥazyâ אֶת ʾēt יוֹאָ֣שׁ Joash yôʾoš בֶּן the son bēn אֲחַזְיָ֗ה of Ahaziah, ʾăḥazyâ וַתִּגְנֹ֤ב and stole gānab אֹתוֹ֙ ʾēt מִתּ֤וֹךְ him from among tāwek בְּנֵֽי sons bēn הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king's melek הַמֻּ֣מָוּתִ֔ים slain; mût אֹת֥וֹ ʾēt וְאֶת ʾēt מֵֽינִקְתּ֖וֹ him, him and his nurse, yānaq בַּֽחֲדַ֣ר in the bedchamber ḥeder הַמִּטּ֑וֹת miṭṭâ וַיַּסְתִּ֧רוּ and they hid sātar אֹת֛וֹ ʾēt מִפְּנֵ֥י from pānîm עֲתַלְיָ֖הוּ Athaliah, ʿătalyâ וְלֹ֥א so that he was not lōʾ הוּמָֽת׃ slain. mût

וַיְהִ֤י And he was hāyâ אִתָּהּ֙ with her ʾēt בֵּ֣ית in the house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ מִתְחַבֵּ֖א hid ḥābāʾ שֵׁ֣שׁ six šēš שָׁנִ֑ים years. šāne וַֽעֲתַלְיָ֖ה And Athaliah ʿătalyâ מֹלֶ֥כֶת did reign mālak עַל over ʿal הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the land. ʾereṣ

וּבַשָּׁנָ֣ה year šāne הַ֠שְּׁבִיעִית And the seventh šĕbîʿî שָׁלַ֨ח sent šālaḥ יְהֽוֹיָדָ֜ע Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ וַיִּקַּ֣ח׀ and fetched lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt שָׂרֵ֣י the rulers śar הַמֵּא֗יוֹת over hundreds, mēʾâ לַכָּרִי֙ with the captains kārî וְלָ֣רָצִ֔ים and the guard, rûṣ וַיָּבֵ֥א and brought bôʾ אֹתָ֛ם them ʾēt אֵלָ֖יו them to ʾēl בֵּ֣ית him into the house bayit יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיִּכְרֹת֩ and made kārat לָהֶ֨ם hēm בְּרִ֜ית a covenant bĕrît וַיַּשְׁבַּ֤ע with them, and took an oath šābaʿ אֹתָם֙ ʾēt בְּבֵ֣ית of them in the house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיַּ֥רְא and shewed rāʾâ אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt אֶת ʾēt בֶּן son. bēn הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek

וַיְצַוֵּ֣ם And he commanded ṣāwâ לֵאמֹ֔ר them, saying, ʾāmar זֶ֥ה This ze הַדָּבָ֖ר the thing dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשׂ֑וּן ye shall do; ʿāśâ הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֤ית A third part šĕlîšî מִכֶּם֙ of min בָּאֵ֣י you that enter in bôʾ הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת on the sabbath šabbāt וְשֹׁ֣מְרֵ֔י shall even be keepers šāmar מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת of the watch mišmeret בֵּ֥ית house; bayit הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of the king's melek

וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית֙ And a third part šĕlîšî בְּשַׁ֣עַר at the gate šaʿar ס֔וּר of Sur; sûr וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֥ית and a third part šĕlîšî בַּשַּׁ֖עַר at the gate šaʿar אַחַ֣ר behind ʾaḥar הָֽרָצִ֑ים the guard: rûṣ וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֛ם so shall ye keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת the watch mišmeret הַבַּ֖יִת of the house, bayit מַסָּֽח׃ that it be not broken down. massāḥ

וּשְׁתֵּ֤י And two šĕnayim הַיָּדוֹת֙ parts yād בָּכֶ֔ם כֹּ֖ל of all kōl יֹֽצְאֵ֣י you that go forth yāṣāʾ הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת on the sabbath, šabbāt וְשָֽׁמְר֛וּ even they shall keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת the watch mišmeret בֵּית of the house bayit יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל about ʾēl הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek

וְהִקַּפְתֶּ֨ם And ye shall compass nāqap עַל ʿal הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ the king melek סָבִ֗יב round about, sābîb אִ֚ישׁ every man ʾîš וְכֵלָ֣יו with his weapons kĕlî בְּיָד֔וֹ in his hand: yād וְהַבָּ֥א and he that cometh bôʾ אֶל within ʾēl הַשְּׂדֵר֖וֹת the ranges, śĕdērâ יוּמָ֑ת let him be slain: mût וִֽהְי֥וּ and be hāyâ אֶת ye with ʾēt הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek בְּצֵאת֥וֹ as he goeth out yāṣāʾ וּבְבֹאֽוֹ׃ and as he cometh in. bôʾ

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֞וּ did ʿāśâ שָׂרֵ֣י And the captains śar הַמֵּא֗יוֹת over the hundreds mēʾâ כְּכֹ֣ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוָּה֮ commanded: ṣāwâ יְהֽוֹיָדָ֣ע Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ הַכֹּהֵן֒ the priest kōhēn וַיִּקְחוּ֙ and they took lāqaḥ אִ֣ישׁ every man ʾîš אֶת ʾēt אֲנָשָׁ֔יו his men ʾîš בָּאֵ֣י that were to come in bôʾ הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת on the sabbath, šabbāt עִ֖ם with ʿim יֹֽצְאֵ֣י them that should go out yāṣāʾ הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת on the sabbath, šabbāt וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ and came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl יְהֽוֹיָדָ֥ע Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ הַכֹּהֵֽן׃ the priest. kōhēn

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן give nātan הַכֹּהֵ֜ן did the priest kōhēn לְשָׂרֵ֣י And to the captains śar הַמֵּא֗יוֹת over hundreds mēʾâ אֶֽת ʾēt הַחֲנִית֙ spears ḥănît וְאֶת ʾēt הַשְּׁלָטִ֔ים and shields, šeleṭ אֲשֶׁ֖ר that ʾăšer לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ king melek דָּוִ֑ד David's dāwid אֲשֶׁ֖ר ʾăšer בְּבֵ֥ית in the temple bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיַּֽעַמְד֨וּ stood, ʿāmad הָֽרָצִ֜ים And the guard rûṣ אִ֣ישׁ׀ every man ʾîš וְכֵלָ֣יו with his weapons kĕlî בְּיָד֗וֹ in his hand, yād מִכֶּ֨תֶף corner kātēp הַבַּ֤יִת of the temple bayit הַיְמָנִית֙ from the right yĕmānî עַד to ʿad כֶּ֤תֶף corner kātēp הַבַּ֙יִת֙ of the temple, bayit הַשְּׂמָאלִ֔ית the left śĕmāʾlî לַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ by the altar mizbēaḥ וְלַבָּ֑יִת and the temple. bayit עַל ʿal הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king, melek סָבִֽיב׃ round about sābîb

וַיּוֹצִ֣א And he brought forth yāṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt בֶּן son, bēn הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king's melek וַיִּתֵּ֤ן and put nātan עָלָיו֙ upon ʿal אֶת ʾēt הַנֵּ֙זֶר֙ the crown nezer וְאֶת ʾēt הָ֣עֵד֔וּת him, and the testimony; ʿēdût וַיַּמְלִ֥כוּ and they made him king, mālak אֹת֖וֹ ʾēt וַיִּמְשָׁחֻ֑הוּ and anointed māšaḥ וַיַּכּוּ him; and they clapped nākâ כָ֔ף their hands, kap וַיֹּֽאמְר֖וּ and said, ʾāmar יְחִ֥י God save ḥāyâ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king. melek

וַתִּשְׁמַ֣ע heard šāmaʿ עֲתַלְיָ֔ה And when Athaliah ʿătalyâ אֶת ʾēt ק֥וֹל the noise qôl הָֽרָצִ֖ין of the guard rûṣ הָעָ֑ם of the people, ʿam וַתָּבֹ֥א she came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl הָעָ֖ם the people ʿam בֵּ֥ית into the temple bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַתֵּ֡רֶא And when she looked, rāʾâ וְהִנֵּ֣ה behold, hinnē הַמֶּלֶךְ֩ the king melek עֹמֵ֨ד stood ʿāmad עַֽל by ʿal הָעַמּ֜וּד a pillar, ʿammûd כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט as the manner mišpāṭ וְהַשָּׂרִ֤ים and the princes śar וְהַחֲצֹֽצְרוֹת֙ and the trumpeters ḥăṣōṣĕrâ אֶל by ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek וְכָל and all kōl עַ֤ם the people ʿam הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ of the land ʾereṣ שָׂמֵ֔חַ rejoiced, śāmēaḥ וְתֹקֵ֖עַ and blew tāqaʿ בַּחֲצֹֽצְר֑וֹת with trumpets: ḥăṣōṣĕrâ וַתִּקְרַ֤ע rent qāraʿ עֲתַלְיָה֙ and Athaliah ʿătalyâ אֶת ʾēt בְּגָדֶ֔יהָ her clothes, beged וַתִּקְרָ֖א and cried, qārāʾ קֶ֥שֶׁר Treason, qešer קָֽשֶׁר׃ Treason. qešer

וַיְצַו֩ commanded ṣāwâ יְהֽוֹיָדָ֨ע But Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ הַכֹּהֵ֜ן the priest kōhēn אֶת ʾēt שָׂרֵ֥י the captains śar הַמֵּא֣יוֹת׀ of the hundreds, mēʾâ פְּקֻדֵ֣י the officers pāqad הַחַ֗יִל of the host, ḥayil וַיֹּ֤אמֶר and said ʾāmar אֲלֵיהֶם֙ unto ʾēl הוֹצִ֤יאוּ them, Have her forth yāṣāʾ אֹתָהּ֙ ʾēt אֶל ʾēl מִבֵּ֣ית without bayit לַשְּׂדֵרֹ֔ת the ranges: śĕdērâ וְהַבָּ֥א and him that followeth bôʾ אַֽחֲרֶ֖יהָ ʾaḥar הָמֵ֣ת her kill mût בֶּחָ֑רֶב with the sword. ḥereb כִּ֚י For kî אָמַ֣ר had said, ʾāmar הַכֹּהֵ֔ן the priest kōhēn אַל Let her not ʾal תּוּמַ֖ת be slain mût בֵּ֥ית in the house bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיָּשִׂ֤מוּ And they laid śûm לָהּ֙ יָדַ֔יִם hands yād וַתָּב֛וֹא on her; and she went bôʾ דֶּֽרֶךְ by the way derek מְב֥וֹא came mābôʾ הַסּוּסִ֖ים by the which the horses sûs בֵּ֣ית house: bayit הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ into the king's melek וַתּוּמַ֖ת was she slain. mût שָֽׁם׃ and there šām

וַיִּכְרֹ֨ת made kārat יְהֽוֹיָדָ֜ע And Jehoiada yĕhôyādāʿ אֶֽת ʾēt הַבְּרִ֗ית a covenant bĕrît בֵּ֤ין between bên יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ וּבֵ֤ין between bên הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ and the king melek וּבֵ֣ין bên הָעָ֔ם and the people, ʿam לִֽהְי֥וֹת that they should be hāyâ לְעָ֖ם people; ʿam לַֽיהוָ֑ה the Lord's yĕhōwâ וּבֵ֥ין bên הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king melek וּבֵ֥ין bên הָעָֽם׃ also and the people. ʿam

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ went bôʾ כָל And all kōl עַם֩ the people ʿam הָאָ֨רֶץ of the land ʾereṣ בֵּית into the house bayit הַבַּ֜עַל of Baal, baʿal וַֽיִּתְּצֻ֗הוּ and brake it down; nātaṣ אֶת ʾēt מִזְבְּחֹתָ֤ו his altars mizbēaḥ וְאֶת ʾēt צְלָמָיו֙ and his images ṣelem שִׁבְּר֣וּ brake they in pieces šābar הֵיטֵ֔ב thoroughly, yāṭab וְאֵ֗ת ʾēt מַתָּן֙ Mattan mattān כֹּהֵ֣ן the priest kōhēn הַבַּ֔עַל of Baal baʿal הָֽרְג֖וּ and slew hārag לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm הַֽמִּזְבְּח֑וֹת the altars. mizbēaḥ וַיָּ֧שֶׂם appointed śûm הַכֹּהֵ֛ן And the priest kōhēn פְּקֻדֹּ֖ת officers pĕquddâ עַל over ʿal בֵּ֥ית the house bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיִּקַּ֣ח And he took lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt שָׂרֵ֣י the rulers śar הַ֠מֵּאוֹת over hundreds, mēʾâ וְאֶת ʾēt הַכָּרִ֨י and the captains, kārî וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽרָצִ֜ים and the guard, rûṣ וְאֵ֣ת׀ ʾēt כָּל and all kōl עַ֣ם the people ʿam הָאָ֗רֶץ of the land; ʾereṣ וַיֹּרִ֤ידוּ and they brought down yārad אֶת ʾēt הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king melek מִבֵּ֣ית from the house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיָּב֛וֹאוּ and came bôʾ דֶּֽרֶך by the way derek שַׁ֥עַר of the gate šaʿar הָֽרָצִ֖ים of the guard rûṣ בֵּ֣ית house. bayit הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ to the king's melek וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב And he sat yāšab עַל on ʿal כִּסֵּ֥א the throne kissēʾ הַמְּלָכִֽים׃ of the kings. melek

וַיִּשְׂמַ֥ח rejoiced, śāmaḥ כָּל And all kōl עַם the people ʿam הָאָ֖רֶץ of the land ʾereṣ וְהָעִ֣יר and the city ʿîr שָׁקָ֑טָה was in quiet: šāqaṭ וְאֶת ʾēt עֲתַלְיָ֛הוּ Athaliah ʿătalyâ הֵמִ֥יתוּ and they slew mût בַחֶ֖רֶב with the sword ḥereb בֵּ֥ית house. bayit מֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king's melek
