וְדָוִ֥יד So when David dāwid זָקֵ֖ן was old zāqēn וְשָׂבַ֣ע and full śābaʿ יָמִ֑ים of days, yôm וַיַּמְלֵ֛ךְ king mālak אֶת he made ʾēt שְׁלֹמֹ֥ה Solomon šĕlōmō בְנ֖וֹ his son bēn עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיֶּֽאֱסֹף֙ And he gathered together ʾāsap אֶת ʾēt כָּל all kōl שָׂרֵ֣י the princes śar יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֖ים with the priests kōhēn וְהַלְוִיִּֽם׃ and the Levites. lēwiyyî

וַיִּסָּֽפְרוּ֙ were numbered sāpar הַלְוִיִּ֔ם Now the Levites lēwiyyî מִבֶּ֛ן from the age bēn שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים of thirty šĕlôšîm שָׁנָ֖ה years šāne וָמָ֑עְלָה and upward: maʿal וַיְהִ֨י was hāyâ מִסְפָּרָ֤ם and their number mispār לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָם֙ by their polls, gulgōlet לִגְבָרִ֔ים man by man, geber שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים thirty šĕlôšîm וּשְׁמוֹנָ֖ה and eight šĕmōne אָֽלֶף׃ thousand. ʾelep

מֵאֵ֗לֶּה Of which, ʾēlle לְנַצֵּ֙חַ֙ to set forward nāṣaḥ עַל ʿal מְלֶ֣אכֶת the work mĕlāʾkâ בֵּית of the house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord; yĕhōwâ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים twenty ʿeśrîm וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה and four ʾarbaʿ אָ֑לֶף thousand ʾelep וְשֹֽׁטְרִ֥ים officers šōṭēr וְשֹֽׁפְטִ֖ים and judges: šāpaṭ שֵׁ֥שֶׁת and six šēš אֲלָפִֽים׃ thousand ʾelep

וְאַרְבַּ֥עַת Moreover four ʾarbaʿ אֲלָפִ֖ים thousand ʾelep שֹֽׁעֲרִ֑ים porters; šôʿēr וְאַרְבַּ֤עַת and four ʾarbaʿ אֲלָפִים֙ thousand ʾelep מְהַֽלְלִ֣ים praised hālal לַֽיהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ בַּכֵּלִ֕ים with the instruments kĕlî אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer עָשִׂ֖יתִי I made, ʿāśâ לְהַלֵּֽל׃ to praise hālal

וַיֶּֽחָלְקֵ֥ם divided ḥālaq דָּוִ֖יד And David dāwid מַחְלְק֑וֹת them into courses maḥălōqet לִבְנֵ֣י among the sons bēn לֵוִ֔י of Levi, lēwî לְגֵֽרְשׁ֖וֹן Gershon, gērĕšôn קְהָ֥ת Kohath, qĕhāt וּמְרָרִֽי׃ and Merari. mĕrārî

לַגֵּֽרְשֻׁנִּ֖י Of the Gershonites gērĕšunnî לַעְדָּ֥ן Laadan, laʿdān וְשִׁמְעִֽי׃ and Shimei. šimʿî

בְּנֵ֣י The sons bēn לַעְדָּ֗ן of Laadan; laʿdān הָרֹ֧אשׁ the chief rōš יְחִיאֵ֛ל Jehiel, yĕḥîʾēl וְזֵתָ֥ם and Zetham, zētām וְיוֹאֵ֖ל and Joel, yôʾēl שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃ three. šālôš

בְּנֵ֣י The sons bēn שִׁמְעִ֗י of Shimei; šimʿî שְׁלֹמִ֧ות Shelomith, šĕlōmôt וַֽחֲזִיאֵ֛ל and Haziel, ḥăzîʾēl וְהָרָ֖ן and Haran, hārān שְׁלֹשָׁ֑ה three. šālôš אֵ֛לֶּה These ʾēlle רָאשֵׁ֥י the chief rōš הָֽאָב֖וֹת of the fathers ʾāb לְלַעְדָּֽן׃ of Laadan. laʿdān

וּבְנֵ֣י And the sons bēn שִׁמְעִ֔י of Shimei šimʿî יַ֣חַת Jahath, yaḥat זִינָ֔א Zina, zînāʾ וִיע֖וּשׁ and Jeush, yĕʿûš וּבְרִיעָ֑ה and Beriah. bĕrîʿâ אֵ֥לֶּה These ʾēlle בְנֵֽי the sons bēn שִׁמְעִ֖י of Shimei. šimʿî אַרְבָּעָֽה׃ four ʾarbaʿ

וַיְהִי was hāyâ יַ֣חַת And Jahath yaḥat הָרֹ֔אשׁ the chief, rōš וְזִיזָ֖ה and Zizah zîzâ הַשֵּׁנִ֑י the second: šēnî וִיע֤וּשׁ but Jeush yĕʿûš וּבְרִיעָה֙ and Beriah bĕrîʿâ לֹֽא lōʾ הִרְבּ֣וּ had not many rābâ בָנִ֔ים sons; bēn וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ therefore they were hāyâ לְבֵ֣ית house. bayit אָ֔ב according to father's ʾāb לִפְקֻדָּ֖ה reckoning, pĕquddâ אֶחָֽת׃ in one ʾeḥād

בְּנֵ֣י The sons bēn קְהָ֗ת of Kohath; qĕhāt עַמְרָ֥ם Amram, ʿamrām יִצְהָ֛ר Izhar, yiṣhār חֶבְר֥וֹן Hebron, ḥebrôn וְעֻזִּיאֵ֖ל and Uzziel, ʿuzzîʾēl אַרְבָּעָֽה׃ four. ʾarbaʿ

בְּנֵ֥י The sons bēn עַמְרָ֖ם of Amram; ʿamrām אַֽהֲרֹ֣ן Aaron ʾahărôn וּמֹשֶׁ֑ה and Moses: mōše וַיִּבָּדֵ֣ל was separated, bādal אַֽהֲרֹ֡ן and Aaron ʾahărôn לְֽהַקְדִּישׁוֹ֩ that he should sanctify qādaš קֹ֨דֶשׁ the most qōdeš קָֽדָשִׁ֤ים holy things, qōdeš הֽוּא he hûʾ וּבָנָיו֙ and his sons bēn עַד for ʿad עוֹלָ֔ם ever, ʿôlām לְהַקְטִיר֩ to burn incense qāṭar לִפְנֵ֨י before pānîm יְהוָ֧ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לְשָֽׁרְת֛וֹ to minister šārat וּלְבָרֵ֥ךְ unto him, and to bless bārak בִּשְׁמ֖וֹ in his name šēm עַד for ʿad עוֹלָֽם׃ ever. ʿôlām

וּמֹשֶׁ֖ה Now Moses mōše אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm בָּנָ֕יו his sons bēn יִקָּרְא֖וּ were named qārāʾ עַל of ʿal שֵׁ֥בֶט the tribe šēbeṭ הַלֵּוִֽי׃ of Levi. lēwî

בְּנֵ֣י The sons bēn מֹשֶׁ֔ה of Moses mōše גֵּרְשׁ֖וֹם Gershom, gērĕšōm וֶֽאֱלִיעֶֽזֶר׃ and Eliezer. ʾĕlîʿezer

בְּנֵ֥י Of the sons bēn גֵֽרְשׁ֖וֹם of Gershom, gērĕšōm שְׁבוּאֵ֥ל Shebuel šĕbûʾēl הָרֹֽאשׁ׃ the chief. rōš

וַיִּֽהְי֥וּ had hāyâ בְנֵֽי And the sons bēn אֱלִיעֶ֖זֶר of Eliezer ʾĕlîʿezer רְחַבְיָ֣ה Rehabiah rĕḥabyâ הָרֹ֑אשׁ the chief. rōš וְלֹֽא none lōʾ הָיָ֤ה hāyâ לֶֽאֱלִיעֶ֙זֶר֙ And Eliezer ʾĕlîʿezer בָּנִ֣ים sons; bēn אֲחֵרִ֔ים other ʾaḥēr וּבְנֵ֥י but the sons bēn רְחַבְיָ֖ה of Rehabiah rĕḥabyâ רָב֥וּ many. rābâ לְמָֽעְלָה׃ were very maʿal

בְּנֵ֥י Of the sons bēn יִצְהָ֖ר of Izhar; yiṣhār שְׁלֹמִ֥ית Shelomith šĕlōmît הָרֹֽאשׁ׃ the chief. rōš

בְּנֵ֖י Of the sons bēn חֶבְר֑וֹן of Hebron; ḥebrôn יְרִיָּ֤הוּ Jeriah yĕriyyâ הָרֹאשׁ֙ the first, rōš אֲמַרְיָ֣ה Amariah ʾămaryâ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י the second, šēnî יַֽחֲזִיאֵל֙ Jahaziel yaḥăzîʾēl הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י the third, šĕlîšî וִֽיקַמְעָ֖ם and Jekameam yĕqamʿām הָֽרְבִיעִֽי׃ the fourth. rĕbîʿî

בְּנֵ֖י Of the sons bēn עֻזִּיאֵ֑ל of Uzziel; ʿuzzîʾēl מִיכָ֣ה Michah mîkâ הָרֹ֔אשׁ the first, rōš וְיִשִּׁיָּ֖ה and Jesiah yiššiyyâ הַשֵּׁנִֽי׃ the second. šēnî

בְּנֵ֤י The sons bēn מְרָרִי֙ of Merari; mĕrārî מַחְלִ֣י Mahli, maḥlî וּמוּשִׁ֔י and Mushi. mûšî בְּנֵ֥י The sons bēn מַחְלִ֖י of Mahli; maḥlî אֶלְעָזָ֥ר Eleazar, ʾelʿāzār וְקִֽישׁ׃ and Kish. qîš

וַיָּ֙מָת֙ died, mût אֶלְעָזָ֔ר And Eleazar ʾelʿāzār וְלֹא no lōʾ הָ֥יוּ and had hāyâ ל֛וֹ בָּנִ֖ים sons, bēn כִּ֣י but kî אִם ʾim בָּנ֑וֹת daughters: bat וַיִּשָּׂא֥וּם took them. nāśāʾ בְּנֵי the sons bēn קִ֖ישׁ of Kish qîš אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ and their brethren ʾāḥ

בְּנֵ֣י The sons bēn מוּשִׁ֗י of Mushi; mûšî מַחְלִ֥י Mahli, maḥlî וְעֵ֛דֶר and Eder, ʿēder וִֽירֵמ֖וֹת and Jeremoth, yĕrîmôt שְׁלוֹשָֽׁה׃ three. šālôš

אֵ֣לֶּה These ʾēlle בְנֵֽי the sons bēn לֵוִי֩ of Levi lēwî לְבֵ֨ית after the house bayit אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֜ם of their fathers; ʾāb רָאשֵׁ֧י the chief rōš הָֽאָב֣וֹת of the fathers, ʾāb לִפְקֽוּדֵיהֶ֗ם as they were counted pāqad בְּמִסְפַּ֤ר by number mispār שֵׁמוֹת֙ of names šēm לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָ֔ם by their polls, gulgōlet עֹשֵׂה֙ that did ʿāśâ הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה the work mĕlāʾkâ לַֽעֲבֹדַ֖ת for the service ʿăbōdâ בֵּ֣ית of the house bayit יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ מִבֶּ֛ן from the age bēn עֶשְׂרִ֥ים of twenty ʿeśrîm שָׁנָ֖ה years šāne וָמָֽעְלָה׃ and upward. maʿal

כִּ֚י For kî אָמַ֣ר said, ʾāmar דָּוִ֔יד David dāwid הֵנִ֛יחַ hath given rest nûaḥ יְהוָ֥ה The Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֵֽי God ʾĕlōhîm יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl לְעַמּ֑וֹ unto his people, ʿam וַיִּשְׁכֹּ֥ן that they may dwell šākan בִּירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם in Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim עַד ʿad לְעוֹלָֽם׃ for ever: ʿôlām

וְגַ֖ם And also gam לַלְוִיִּ֑ם unto the Levites; lēwiyyî אֵין they shall no ʾayin לָשֵׂ֧את carry nāśāʾ אֶת ʾēt הַמִּשְׁכָּ֛ן the tabernacle, miškān וְאֶת ʾēt כָּל nor any kōl כֵּלָ֖יו vessels kĕlî לַעֲבֹֽדָתֽוֹ׃ of it for the service thereof. ʿăbōdâ

כִּ֣י For kî בְדִבְרֵ֤י words dābār דָוִיד֙ of David dāwid הָאַ֣חֲרוֹנִ֔ים by the last ʾaḥărôn הֵ֖מָּה hēm מִסְפַּ֣ר numbered mispār בְּנֵֽי bēn לֵוִ֑י the Levites lēwiyyî מִבֶּ֛ן from bēn עֶשְׂרִ֥ים twenty ʿeśrîm שָׁנָ֖ה years old šāne וּלְמָֽעְלָה׃ and above: maʿal

כִּ֣י Because kî מַֽעֲמָדָ֞ם their office maʿămād לְיַד to wait on yād בְּנֵ֣י the sons bēn אַֽהֲרֹ֗ן of Aaron ʾahărôn לַֽעֲבֹדַת֙ for the service ʿăbōdâ בֵּ֣ית of the house bayit יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ עַל in ʿal הַֽחֲצֵרוֹת֙ the courts, ḥāṣēr וְעַל and in ʿal הַלְּשָׁכ֔וֹת the chambers, liškâ וְעַֽל and in ʿal טָהֳרַ֖ת the purifying ṭohŏrâ לְכָל of all kōl קֹ֑דֶשׁ holy things, qōdeš וּמַֽעֲשֵׂ֔ה and the work maʿăśe עֲבֹדַ֖ת of the service ʿăbōdâ בֵּ֥ית of the house bayit הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God; ʾĕlōhîm

וּלְלֶ֨חֶם Both for the shewbread, leḥem הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֜כֶת maʿăreket וּלְסֹ֤לֶת and for the fine flour sōlet לְמִנְחָה֙ for meat offering, minḥâ וְלִרְקִיקֵ֣י cakes, rāqîq הַמַּצּ֔וֹת and for the unleavened maṣṣâ וְלַֽמַּחֲבַ֖ת and for the pan, maḥăbat וְלַמֻּרְבָּ֑כֶת and for that which is fried, rābak וּלְכָל and for all manner kōl מְשׂוּרָ֖ה of measure mĕśûrâ וּמִדָּֽה׃ and size; middâ

וְלַֽעֲמֹד֙ And to stand ʿāmad בַּבֹּ֣קֶר every morning bōqer בַּבֹּ֔קֶר bōqer לְהֹד֥וֹת to thank yādâ וּלְהַלֵּ֖ל and praise hālal לַֽיהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְכֵ֖ן and likewise kēn לָעָֽרֶב׃ at even; ʿereb

וּלְכֹ֨ל all kōl הַֽעֲל֤וֹת And to offer ʿālâ עֹלוֹת֙ burnt sacrifices ʿōlâ לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord yĕhōwâ לַשַּׁבָּת֔וֹת in the sabbaths, šabbāt לֶֽחֳדָשִׁ֖ים in the new moons, ḥōdeš וְלַמֹּֽעֲדִ֑ים and on the set feasts, môʿēd בְּמִסְפָּ֨ר by number, mispār כְּמִשְׁפָּ֧ט according to the order mišpāṭ עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם commanded unto ʿal תָּמִ֖יד them, continually tāmîd לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord: yĕhōwâ

וְשָֽׁמְר֞וּ And that they should keep šāmar אֶת ʾēt מִשְׁמֶ֣רֶת the charge mišmeret אֹֽהֶל of the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵ֗ד of the congregation, môʿēd וְאֵת֙ ʾēt מִשְׁמֶ֣רֶת and the charge mišmeret הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ of the holy qōdeš וּמִשְׁמֶ֕רֶת and the charge mišmeret בְּנֵ֥י of the sons bēn אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן of Aaron ʾahărôn אֲחֵיהֶ֑ם their brethren, ʾāḥ לַֽעֲבֹדַ֖ת in the service ʿăbōdâ בֵּ֥ית of the house bayit יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ
