וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח sent šālaḥ חיּרָ֨ם Now Hiram ḥîrām מֶֽלֶךְ king melek צֹ֥ר of Tyre ṣōr מַלְאָכִים֮ messengers mălʾok אֶל to ʾēl דָּוִיד֒ David, dāwid וַֽעֲצֵ֣י and timber ʿēṣ אֲרָזִ֔ים of cedars, ʾerez וְחָֽרָשֵׁ֣י ḥāroš קִ֔יר with masons qîr וְחָֽרָשֵׁ֖י and carpenters, ḥāroš עֵצִ֑ים ʿēṣ לִבְנ֥וֹת to build bānâ ל֖וֹ בָּֽיִת׃ him an house. bayit

וַיֵּ֣דַע perceived yādaʿ דָּוִ֔יד And David dāwid כִּֽי that kî הֱכִינ֧וֹ had confirmed kûn יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ him king melek עַל over ʿal יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl כִּֽי for kî נִשֵּׂ֤את was lifted up nāśāʾ לְמַ֙עְלָה֙ on high, maʿal מַלְכוּת֔וֹ his kingdom malkût בַּֽעֲב֖וּר because of ʿābûr עַמּ֥וֹ his people ʿam יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּקַּ֨ח took lāqaḥ דָּוִ֥יד And David dāwid ע֛וֹד more ʿôd נָשִׁ֖ים wives ʾiššâ בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם at Jerusalem: yĕrûšālaim וַיּ֧וֹלֶד begat yālad דָּוִ֛יד and David dāwid ע֖וֹד more ʿôd בָּנִ֥ים sons bēn וּבָנֽוֹת׃ and daughters. bat

וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ Now these ʾēlle שְׁמ֣וֹת the names šēm הַיְלוּדִ֔ים of children yālad אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer הָֽיוּ he had hāyâ ל֖וֹ בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם in Jerusalem; yĕrûšālaim שַׁמּ֣וּעַ Shammua, šammûaʿ וְשׁוֹבָ֔ב and Shobab, šôbāb נָתָ֖ן Nathan, nātān וּשְׁלֹמֹֽה׃ and Solomon, šĕlōmō

וְיִבְחָ֥ר And Ibhar, yibḥar וֶֽאֱלִישׁ֖וּעַ and Elishua, ʾĕlîšûaʿ וְאֶלְפָּֽלֶט׃ and Elpalet, ʾĕlîpeleṭ

וְנֹ֥גַהּ And Nogah, nōgah וְנֶ֖פֶג and Nepheg, nepeg וְיָפִֽיעַ׃ and Japhia, yāpîaʿ

וֶאֱלִֽישָׁמָ֥ע And Elishama, ʾĕlîšāmāʿ וּבְעֶלְיָדָ֖ע and Beeliada, bĕʿelyādāʿ וֶֽאֱלִיפָֽלֶט׃ and Eliphalet. ʾĕlîpeleṭ

וַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ heard šāmaʿ פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים And when the Philistines pĕlištî כִּֽי that kî נִמְשַׁ֨ח was anointed māšaḥ דָּוִ֤יד David dāwid לְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙ king melek עַל over ʿal כָּל all kōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel, yiśrāʾēl וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ went up ʿālâ כָל all kōl פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים the Philistines pĕlištî לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ to seek bāqaš אֶת ʾēt דָּוִ֑יד David. dāwid וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע heard šāmaʿ דָּוִ֔יד And David dāwid וַיֵּצֵ֖א and went out yāṣāʾ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ against them. pānîm

וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים And the Philistines pĕlištî בָּ֑אוּ came bôʾ וַֽיִּפְשְׁט֖וּ and spread pāšaṭ בְּעֵ֥מֶק themselves in the valley ʿēmeq רְפָאִֽים׃ of Rephaim. rāpāʾ

וַיִּשְׁאַ֨ל inquired šāʾal דָּוִ֤יד And David dāwid בֵּֽאלֹהִים֙ of God, ʾĕlōhîm לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar הַאֶֽעֱלֶה֙ Shall I go up ʿālâ עַל against ʿal פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יים the Philistines? pĕlištî וּנְתַתָּ֖ם and wilt thou deliver nātan בְּיָדִ֑י them into mine hand? yād וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said ʾāmar ל֤וֹ יְהוָה֙ And the Lord yĕhōwâ עֲלֵ֔ה unto him, Go up; ʿālâ וּנְתַתִּ֖ים for I will deliver nātan בְּיָדֶֽךָ׃ them into thine hand. yād

וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ So they came up ʿālâ בְּבַֽעַל פְּרָצִים֮ to Baal-perazim; baʿal pĕrāṣîm וַיַּכֵּ֣ם smote nākâ שָׁ֣ם them there. šām דָּוִיד֒ and David dāwid וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said, ʾāmar דָּוִ֔יד Then David dāwid פָּרַ֨ץ hath broken in pāraṣ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֧ים God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת ʾēt אֽוֹיְבַ֛י upon mine enemies ʾōyēb בְּיָדִ֖י by mine hand yād כְּפֶ֣רֶץ like the breaking forth pereṣ מָ֑יִם of waters: mayim עַל therefore ʿal כֵּ֗ן kēn קָ֥רְא֛וּ they called qārāʾ שֵֽׁם the name šēm הַמָּק֥וֹם place māqôm הַה֖וּא of that hûʾ בַּ֥עַל פְּרָצִֽים׃ Baal-perazim. baʿal pĕrāṣîm

וַיַּ֥עַזְבוּ And when they had left ʿāzab שָׁ֖ם there, šām אֶת ʾēt אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֑ם their gods ʾĕlōhîm וַיֹּ֣אמֶר gave a commandment, ʾāmar דָּוִ֔יד David dāwid וַיִּשָּֽׂרְפ֖וּ and they were burned śārap בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ with fire. ʾēš

וַיֹּסִ֤יפוּ again yāsap עוֹד֙ yet ʿôd פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים And the Philistines pĕlištî וַֽיִּפְשְׁט֖וּ spread themselves abroad pāšaṭ בָּעֵֽמֶק׃ in the valley. ʿēmeq

וַיִּשְׁאַ֨ל inquired šāʾal ע֤וֹד again ʿôd דָּוִיד֙ Therefore David dāwid בֵּֽאלֹהִ֔ים of God; ʾĕlōhîm וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar לוֹ֙ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים and God ʾĕlōhîm לֹ֥א lōʾ תַֽעֲלֶ֖ה unto him, Go not up ʿālâ אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם after ʾaḥar הָסֵב֙ them; turn away sābab מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֔ם from ʿal וּבָ֥אתָ them, and come bôʾ לָהֶ֖ם hēm מִמּ֥וּל upon them over against mûl הַבְּכָאִֽים׃ the mulberry trees. bākāʾ

וִ֠יהִי And it shall be, hāyâ כְּֽשָׁמְעֲךָ֞ when thou shalt hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt ק֤וֹל a sound qôl הַצְּעָדָה֙ of going ṣĕʿādâ בְּרָאשֵׁ֣י in the tops rōš הַבְּכָאִ֔ים of the mulberry trees, bākāʾ אָ֖ז then ʾāz תֵּצֵ֣א thou shalt go out yāṣāʾ בַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה to battle: milḥāmâ כִּֽי for kî יָצָ֤א is gone forth yāṣāʾ הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ God ʾĕlōhîm לְפָנֶ֔יךָ before pānîm לְהַכּ֖וֹת thee to smite nākâ אֶת ʾēt מַֽחֲנֵ֥ה the host maḥăne פְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ of the Philistines. pĕlištî

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ therefore did ʿāśâ דָּוִ֔יד David dāwid כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֖הוּ commanded ṣāwâ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים God ʾĕlōhîm וַיַּכּוּ֙ him: and they smote nākâ אֶת ʾēt מַֽחֲנֵ֣ה the host maḥăne פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines pĕlištî מִגִּבְע֖וֹן from Gibeon gibʿôn וְעַד even to ʿad גָּֽזְרָה׃ Gazer. gezer

וַיֵּצֵ֥א went out yāṣāʾ שֵׁם And the fame šēm דָּוִ֖יד of David dāwid בְּכָל into all kōl הָֽאֲרָצ֑וֹת lands; ʾereṣ וַֽיהוָ֛ה and the Lord yĕhōwâ נָתַ֥ן brought nātan אֶת ʾēt פַּחְדּ֖וֹ the fear paḥad עַל of him upon ʿal כָּל all kōl הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ nations. gôy
