தன் நேசர்மேல் சார்ந்துகொண்டு வனாந்தரத்திலிருந்து வருகிற இவள் யார்? கிச்சிலிமரத்தின் கீழ் உம்மை எழுப்பினேன்; அங்கே உமது தாய் உம்மைப் பெற்றாள்; அங்கே உம்மைப் பெற்றவள் வேதனைப்பட்டு உம்மைப் பெற்றாள்.
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.
நீர் என்னை உமது இருதயத்தின்மேல் முத்திரையைப்போலவும், உமது புயத்தின்மேல் முத்திரையைப்போலவும் வைத்துக்கொள்ளும்; நேசம் மரணத்தைப்போல் வலிது; நேசவைராக்கியம் பாதாளத்தைப்போல் கொடிதாயிருக்கிறது; அதின் தழல் அக்கினித்தழலும் அதின் ஜுவாலை கடும் ஜுவாலையுமாயிருக்கிறது.
Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.
திரளான தண்ணீர்கள் நேசத்தை அவிக்கமாட்டாது, வெள்ளங்களும் அதைத் தணிக்கமாட்டாது; ஒருவன் தன் வீட்டிலுள்ள ஆஸ்திகளையெல்லாம் நேசத்துக்காகக் கொடுத்தாலும், அது முற்றிலும் அசட்டைபண்ணப்படும்.
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
