தேவன் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்து, நீ உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் முகத்திற்கு விலகி ஓடிப்போகிறபோது, உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கு என்றார்.

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

Genesis 35:2

அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் வீட்டாரையும் தன்னோடேகூட இருந்த மற்ற அனைவரையும் நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் இருக்கிற அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை விலக்கிப்போட்டு, உங்களைச் சுத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களை மாற்றுங்கள்.

Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

Genesis 35:3

நாம் எழுந்து பெத்தேலுக்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள்; எனக்கு ஆபத்து நேரிட்ட நாளில் என் விண்ணப்பத்துக்கு உத்தரவு அருளிச்செய்து, நான் நடந்த வழியிலே என்னோடேகூட இருந்த தேவனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்குவேன் என்றான்.

And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

Genesis 35:4

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தங்கள் கையிலிருந்த எல்லா அந்நிய தெய்வங்களையும், தங்கள் காதணிகளையும் யாக்கோபிடத்தில் கொடுத்தார்கள்; யாக்கோபு அவைகளைச் சீகேம் ஊர் அருகே இருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின் கீழே புதைத்துப்போட்டான்.

And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

Genesis 35:5

பின்பு பிரயாணம் புறப்பட்டார்கள்; அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த பட்டணத்தாருக்குத் தேவனாலே பயங்கரம் உண்டானதினால், அவர்கள் யாக்கோபின் குமாரரைப் பின்தொடராதிருந்தார்கள்.

And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

Genesis 35:6

யாக்கோபும் அவனோடேகூட இருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களும் கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்தேல் என்னும் லுூசுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

Genesis 35:7

அங்கே அவன் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, தன் சகோதரனுடைய முகத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடினபோது, அங்கே தனக்கு தேவன் தரிசனமானபடியால், அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்கு ஏல்பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

Genesis 35:8

ரெபெக்காளின் தாதியாகிய தெபொராள் மரித்து, பெத்தேலுக்குச் சமீபமாயிருந்த ஒரு கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழ் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டாள்; அதற்கு அல்லோன்பாகூத் என்னும் பேர் உண்டாயிற்று.

But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
