1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.જગતનો આરંભ થયા પહેલાંથી, તે શબ્દ ત્યાં હતો. તે શબ્દ દેવની સાથે હતો. તે શબ્દ દેવ હતો.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.તે શરુંઆતમાં ત્યાં દેવની સાથે હતો.

3 All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made.તેના થી જ બધી વસ્તુઓ ઉત્પન્ન થઈ. તેના વિના કશું જ ઉત્પન્ન થયું નથી.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.તેનામાં જીવન હતું. તે જીવન લોકો માટે પ્રકાશ હતો.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn't overcome{The word translated "overcome" (katelaben) can also be translated "comprehended." It refers to getting a grip on an enemy to defeat him.} it.તે અજવાળું અંધકારમાં પ્રકાશે છે. અંધકારે પ્રકાશને જાણ્યો નથી.

6 There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.ત્યાં એક યોહાન નામનો માણસ આવ્યો, તેને દેવે મોકલ્યો હતો.

7 The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.યોહાન લોકોને પ્રકાશ વિષે કહેવા આવ્યો. યોહાન દ્વારા લોકો પ્રકાશ વિષે સાંભળી અને માની શકે.

8 He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.યોહાન પોતે પ્રકાશ નહોતો. પણ યોહાન લોકોને પ્રકાશ વિષે કહેવા આવ્યો.

9 The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.સાચો પ્રકાશ જગતમાં આવતો હતો. આજ ખરો પ્રકાશ છે જે બધા લોકોને પ્રકાશ આપે છે.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn't recognize him.તે શબ્દ જગતમાં હતો જ. તેના દ્વારા જ જગતનું નિર્માણ થયું છે. પણ જગતે તેને ઓળખ્યો નહિ.

11 He came to his own, and those who were his own didn't receive him.જે જગતમાં આવ્યો તે તેનું પોતાનું જ હતું. પણ તેના પોતાના લોકોએ જ તેનો સ્વીકાર કર્યો નહિ.

12 But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name:કેટલાક લોકોએ તેનો સ્વીકાર કર્યો. તેઓએ તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો. જે લોકોએ તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો હતો તેઓને તેણે કંઈક આપ્યું. તેણે તેઓને દેવનાં બાળકો થવાનો અધિકાર આપ્યો.

13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.જેવી રીતે નાનાં બાળકો જન્મ છે તેવી રીતે આ બાળકો જન્મ્યા ન હતા. તેઓ માતાપિતાની ઈચ્છાથી કે યોજનાથી જન્મ્યા ન હતા. આ બાળકો દેવથી જન્મ્યા હતા.

14 The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.તે શબ્દ એક મનુષ્ય થયો અને આપણામાં વસ્યો. આપણે તેનો મહિમા જોયો. જે ફક્ત પિતાના દીકરાનો જ મહિમા છે. તે શબ્દ કૃપા તથા સત્યતાથી ભરપૂર હતો.

15 John testified about him. He cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.'"યોહાને લોકોને તેના વિષે કહ્યું, યોહાને કહ્યું, “હું જેના વિષે કહેતો હતો તે એ જ છે.” મેં કહ્યું, ‘જે મારી પાછળ આવે છે તે મારા કરતાં પણ મોટો છે. તે મારી પહેલાનો હતો.”

16 From his fullness we all received grace upon grace.તે શબ્દ (ખ્રિસ્ત) કૃપા અને સત્યથી ભરપૂર હતો, તેની પાસેથી આપણે બધા વધારે ને વધારે કૃપા પામ્યા.

17 For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.મૂસા મારફતે નિયમશાસ્ત્ર આપવામાં આવ્યું. પરંતુ કૃપા અને સત્યતા ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત મારફતે આવ્યાં.

18 No one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.કોઈ પણ માણસે આજપર્યંત દેવને જોયો નથી, પરંતુ એકાકીજનિત દીકરો (ઈસુ) જ દેવ છે. તે પિતા (દેવની) ની ઘણી નજીક છે. દેવ કોના જેવો છે, તે દીકરાએ આપણને બતાવ્યું છે.

19 This is John's testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"યરૂશાલેમના યહૂદિઓએ કેટલાક યાજકોને તથા લેવીઓને યોહાન પાસે મોકલ્યા. યહૂદિઓએ તેઓને યોહાનને પૂછવા માટે મોકલ્યા, “તું કોણ છે?”

20 He confessed, and didn't deny, but he confessed, "I am not the Christ."યોહાન સ્પષ્ટ બોલ્યો. યોહાને ઉત્તર આપવાની ના પાડી નહિ, યોહાને સ્પષ્ટતાપૂર્વક કહ્યું, “હું ખ્રિસ્ત નથી.” યોહાને લોકોને આ વાત કહી.

21 They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."યહૂદિઓએ યોહાનને પૂછયું, “તો પછી તું કોણ છે? તું એલિયા છે?”યોહાને ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “ના હું એલિયા નથી.”યહૂદિઓએ પૂછયું, “તુ પ્રબોધક છે?”યોહાને ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “ના હું પ્રબોધક નથી.”

22 They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"પછી તે યહૂદિઓએ કહ્યું, “તું કોણ છે? અમને તારા વિષે કહે. જેથી અમને જેણે મોકલ્યા છે તેને અમે ઉત્તર આપી શકીએ, તું તારા માટે શું કહે છે?”

23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said."યોહાને તેઓને યશાયા પ્રબોધકના શબ્દો કહ્યા,“હું રાનમાં બૂમો પાડતી વ્યક્તિની વાણી છું;‘પ્રભુ માટે સીધો રસ્તો તૈયાર કરો.”‘ યશાય 40:3

24 The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.આ યહૂદિઓને ફરોશીઓમાંથી મોકલવામાં આવ્યા હતા.

25 They asked him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"આ માણસોએ યોહાનને કહ્યું, “તું કહે છે કે તું ખ્રિસ્ત નથી. તું કહે છે તું એલિયા કે પ્રબોધક પણ નથી. પછી તું શા માટે લોકોને બાપ્તિસ્મા આપે છે?”

26 John answered them, "I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don't know.યોહાને ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “હું લોકોનું પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કરું છું. પણ અહીં તમારી સાથે એક વ્યક્તિ છે જેને તમે જાણતા નથી.

27 He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen."તે વ્યક્તિ જે મારી પાછળ આવે છે, હું તેના જોડાની દોરી છોડવા જેટલો પણ યોગ્ય નથી.”

28 These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.યર્દન નદીને પેલે પાર આ બધી વસ્તુઓ બેથનિયામાં બની. આ જગ્યાએ યોહાન લોકોનું બાપ્તિસ્મા કરતો હતો.

29 The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!બીજે દિવસે યોહાને ઈસુને તેના તરફ આવતો જોયો. યોહાને કહ્યું, “જુઓ દેવનું હલવાન, જે જગતના પાપોને દૂર કરે છે!

30 This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.'આ તે જ છે જેના વિષે મેં કહ્યું હતું, ‘એક મનુષ્ય મારી પાછળ આવશે. પણ તે મારા કરતાં મોટો છે, કારણ કે તે મારા પહેલાથી જીવે છે. તે સદાકાળ જીવંત છે.’

31 I didn't know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel."જો કે મને ખબર ન હતી કે તે કોણ હતો. પણ હું લોકોને પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા આપવા આવ્યો છું કે જેથી ઈસ્રાએલ (યહૂદિઓ) જાણી શકે કે ઈસુ તે જ ખ્રિસ્ત છે.”

32 John testified, saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.પછી યોહાને કહ્યું, “હું પણ જાણતો નહોતો કે ખ્રિસ્ત કોણ હતો. પરંતુ દેવે મને લોકોનું પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કરવા મોકલ્યો અને દેવે મને કહ્યું, ‘તું જે માણસ પર આત્માને નીચે ઉતરતો અને રહેતો જોશે, તે માણસ પવિત્ર આત્માથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કરશે. યોહાને કહ્યું, મેં આમ થતાં જોયું છે.

33 I didn't recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.'મેં આત્માને આકાશમાંથી નીચે આવતો જોયો. આત્મા કબૂતર જેવો દેખાયો અને તેના (ઈસુ) પર તે બેઠો.

34 I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God."તેથી હું લોકોને કહું છું, ‘તે આ છે. તે (ઈસુ) દેવનો દીકરો છે.”‘

35 Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,ફરીથી બીજે દિવસે યોહાન ત્યાં હતો. યોહાનના બે શિષ્યો તેની સાથે હતા.

36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"યોહાને ઈસુને બાજુમાંથી પસાર થતાં જોયો. યોહાને કહ્યું, “જુઓ, દેવનું હલવાન!”

37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.તે બે શિષ્યોએ યોહાનને આમ કહેતા સાંભળ્યો, તેથી તેઓ ઈસુને અનુસર્યા.

38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), "where are you staying?"ઈસુ પાછો ફર્યો અને તે બે માણસોને તેની પાછળ આવતા જોયા. ઈસુએ પૂછયું, “તમારે શું જોઈએ છે?”તે બે માણસોએ પૂછયું, “રાબ્બી, તું ક્યાં રહે છે?” (“રબ્બી” નો અર્થ “શિક્ષક”)

39 He said to them, "Come, and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.{4:00 PM.}ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “મારી સાથે આવો અને જુઓ.” તેથી તે બે માણસો ઈસુ સાથે ગયા. તેઓએ ઈસુ જ્યાં રહેતો હતો તે જગ્યા જોઈ. તેઓ ત્યાં ઈસુ સાથે તે દિવસે રહ્યા. તે લગભગ બપોરના ચારનો સમય હતો.

40 One of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.તે બે માણસો યોહાન પાસેથી ઈસુ વિષે સાંભળ્યા પછી તેઓ ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા. આ બે માણસોમાંના એકનું નામ આંન્દ્રિયા હતું. આંન્દ્રિયા સિમોન પિતરનોભાઈ હતો.

41 He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" (which is, being interpreted, Christ{"Messiah" (Hebrew) and "Christ" (Greek) both mean "Anointed One".}).આંન્દ્રિયાઓ સૌ પ્રથમ તેના ભાઈ સિમોનને શોધ્યો. આંન્દ્રિયાએ સિમોનને કહ્યું, “અમે મસીહને શોધી કાઢયો છે.” (“મસીહ” નો અર્થ “ખ્રિસ્ત” છે.)

42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is by interpretation, Peter).પછી આંન્દ્રિયા સિમોનને ઈસુ પાસે લાવ્યો, ઈસુએ સિમોન તરફ જોયું અને કહ્યું, ‘તું યોહાનનો દીકરો સિમોન છે. તું કેફા કહેવાશે. (“કેફા” નો અર્થ “પથ્થર” થાય છે.)

43 On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, "Follow me."બીજે દિવસે ઈસુએ ગાલીલ જવાનું નક્કી કર્યુ. ઈસુ ફિલિપને મળ્યો અને તેને કહ્યું, “મને અનુસર.”

44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.ફિલિપ બેથસૈદાનો એટલે આંન્દ્રિયા તથા પિતરના શહેરનો હતો.

45 Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."ફિલિપ નથાનિયેલને મળ્યો અને કહ્યું, “યાદ કરો કે નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં મૂસાએ શું કહ્યું છે. મૂસાએ જે માણસ આવવાનો હતો તેના વિષે લખ્યું. પ્રબોધકોએ પણ તેના વિષે લખ્યું અમે તેને મળ્યા છીએ. તેનું નામ ઈસુ છે, તે યૂસફનો દીકરો છે. તે નાસરેથમાંનો છે.”

46 Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."પણ નથાનિયેલે ફિલિપને કહ્યું, “શું નાસરેથમાંથી કંઈક સારું નીકળી શકે?” ફિલિપે ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “આવો અને જુઓ.”

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"ઈસુએ નથાનિયેલને તેના તરફ આવતા જોયો. ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “આ માણસ જે મારી પાસે આવે છે તે ખરેખર દેવના લોકોમાંનો એક છે તેનામાં કંઈ દુષ્ટતા નથી.”

48 Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."નથાનિયેલે પૂછયું, “તું મને કેવી રીતે ઓળખે છે?” ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “જ્યારે તું અંજીરના વૃક્ષ નીચે હતો, ત્યારે મેં તને જોયો. ફિલિપે તને મારા વિષે કહ્યું તે પહેલાં તું ત્યાં હતો.”

49 Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!"પછી નથાનિયેલે ઈસુને કહ્યું, “રાબ્બી, તું દેવનો દીકરો છે. તું ઈસ્રાએલનો રાજા છે.”

50 Jesus answered him, "Because I told you, 'I saw you underneath the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these!"ઈસુએ નથાનિયેલને કહ્યું, “મેં તને કહ્યું કે મેં તને અંજીરના વૃક્ષ નીચે જોયો. તેથી તે મારામાં વિશ્વાસ મૂક્યો. પણ તું તેના કરતાં પણ વધારે મહાન વાતો જોશે.”

51 He said to him, "Most assuredly, I tell you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."ઈસુએ વધારામાં કહ્યું, “હું તને સત્ય કહું છું. તમે બધા આકાશને ઊઘડેલું જોશો, તમે દેવના દૂતોને માણસના દીકરા ઊપર ચઢતા ઉતરતા જોશો.”
