அப்பொழுது சவுல்: நான் பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; என் குமாரனாகிய தாவீதே, திரும்பிவா; என் ஜீவன் இன்றையதினம் உன் பார்வைக்கு அருமையாயிருந்தபடியால், இனி உனக்கு ஒரு பொல்லாப்புஞ்செய்யேன்; இதோ, நான் மதியற்றவனாய் மகா பெரிய தப்பிதஞ்செய்தேன் என்றான்.

பிறகு சவுல், “நான் பாவம் செய்துவிட்டேன். திரும்பி வா மகனே, என் உயிர் உனக்கு முக்கியமானது என்பதை எனக்குக் காட்டிவிட்டாய். இனிமேல் உனக்குக் கேடுசெய்ய முயலமாட்டேன். நான் அறிவீனமாக நடந்துகொண்டேன். நான் பெருந்தவறு செய்துவிட்டேன்” என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது சவுல், “நான் பாவம் செய்துள்ளேன். என் மகன் தாவீதே! திரும்பி வா, என் உயிரை இன்று நீ இவ்வளவு மதித்தபடியால் இனி உனக்கு நான் எத்தீங்கும் செய்யமாட்டேன். இதோ, நான் மூடத்தனமாய் நடந்து பெரும் தவறு இழைக்கிறேன்” என்றார்.⒫
