அவன் இவனைப் பார்த்து: ராஜகுமாரனாகிய நீ, நாளுக்குநாள் எதினால் இப்படி மெலிந்துபோகிறாய், எனக்குச்சொல்லமாட்டாயா என்றான். அதற்கு அம்னோன்: என் சகோதரன் அப்சலோமின் சகோதரியாகிய தாமாரின்மேல் நான் ஆசைவைத்திருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

யோனதாப் அம்னோனை நோக்கி, “நாளுக்கு நாள் நீ மெலிந்துக்கொண்டே வருகிறாய். நீ அரசனின் மகன்! உனக்கு உண்பதற்கு ஏராளமான பொருட்கள் இருந்தும், நீ ஏன் எடை குறைந்து காணப்படுகிறாய்? சொல்!” என்றான். அம்னோன் யோனதாபை நோக்கி, “நான் தாமாரை மிகவும் விரும்புகிறேன். அவள் எனது ஒன்று-விட்ட-சகோதரன் அப்சலோமின் சகோதரி” என்றான்.
