அவன் ஆசாரிரையும் லேவியரையும் கூடி வரச்செய்து, அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் யூதா பட்டணங்களுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், உங்கள் தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தை வருஷாவருஷம் பழுதுபார்க்கிறதற்கு, இஸ்ரவேலெங்கும் பணம் சேகரியுங்கள்; இந்தக் காரியத்தைத் தாமதமில்லாமல் செய்யுங்கள் என்றான். ஆனாலும் லேவியர் தாமதம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

யோவாஸ் ஆசாரியர்களையும், லேவியர்களையும் ஒன்றாகத் திரட்டினான். அவன் அவர்களிடம், “யூதாவின் நகரங்களுக்குச் சென்று அனைத்து இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களிடமிருந்தும் பணத்தைச் சேகரியுங்கள். ஆண்டுதோறும் தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுது பார்த்து மேலும் கட்ட வேண்டும். வேகமாகப் போய் இதனைச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றான். ஆனால் லேவியர்கள் அவசரப்படவில்லை.
